    One bit that nobody has brought up and while it makes sense, Desmond and Agent Rainbow have the voice actor.

    My only complaint with the game is that it feels like Rosemary's tape was cut from the game and her story put in Max's and Lucas' tapes. I mean, she even has her own theme song talking about sacrifice (which is not really explained with the little we got of her), and it felt (at least for me) that there was a pretty big jump from Lucas' tape to the final chapter. Outside of that, I loved how the game manages to guide you in the right path and locking unnecesary paths without seeming too streamlined, and how carefully designed the levels were. It's not an easy thing to achieve. Their use of color is also really good, especially in chapter 4 with the flashbacks. Pretty good game, I hope they can make a sequel.

      Rosemary could never have had a tape. she was confined to a bunker and only interacted with Lucas before being murdered.

    Just finished the game for the 2nd time the other day. And I have to say, it is more enjoyable the second time, like you said in the video. I do find the game more emotional than scary. Mainly because that I have been through deep depression, self harm and suicidal thoughts. I have been to the therapist and have gotten better ever since.
    But the game is super good. The voice acting, music, level and puzzle design are on point. I generally hope that it will get more popular as time goes on
    Also wanted to say, happy I found your video. I was super good, kept it simple and easy to understand

    OMG i never figured out that you could stun the flash.
    I loved In sound Mind and its clear there was so much love put into it. I loved that each 'boss battle' had dialogue with them as they came to terms. Each patient was a highlight for me. But, I kind of didnt get the overarching story and this video really helped me understand it. Thank you

      I did enjoy the story more on my second play-through when I had more of the details and was able to really start piecing things together. Glad I was able to help!

    one really neat fact about the bull is if you stun it with a flare or something else while its on the gound "deactivated" if you use the mirror you can see the guy crammed in the front of the machine

    I love seeing someone make a good Analysis on this game. I never really felt like it got the love it really deserved after it was released.
    I've played through most horror games on steam at this point. Even the really cheesy small budget horror games that never get that much attention. But In sound mind is a "horror" game i find myself coming back to often and part of me could even consider it one of the best experiences I've ever played through.
    The game's narrative is so cohesive and connected and you can't help but fall in love with the characters a lit bit. They all have a lot of depth and personality and they feel like real people you could know. But most importantly it subverts the usual tropes around mental illness and insists that Desmond's patients aren't only not evil or twisted by their illnesses but that they're good people. The game wants us to feel sympathy for them and it wants us to make us feel angry with agent rainbow and the government for derailing and ruining their lives.
    Rainbow the being is also such a perfect personification of Desmond's negative thoughts and insecurities even his survivors guilt. He's almost that little voice we've all had in our head at one point whispering horrible things to us. Telling us we deserve to hurt, deserve to die, that we are bad people.
    Even someone like Max who would have been so easily to demonize is humanized in the game. We start with this jaded view of him through his apartment and audios that makes him seem like he's violent and aggressive and willing to lash out and hurt people around him. But by the end we discover his deep love for his daughter buried underneath of all his anger, We discover his own self doubts and struggle to improve against the blinding feelings that his illness puts him through. Even the hints of domestic abuse turn out that he only kicked a chair against a wall in his anger and it scared his loved ones. Which still is scary, seeing someone being violent is scary but it shows that even when blinded by anger as far as we've seen Max never purposefully hurts people. He internalizes it and verbalizes it which can still be harmful in its own right. But he wants to get better even if he won't admit that he needs to get better. He wants to be a good father for his daughter and his illness makes him feel like everyone is conspiring to take everything away from him. Max is a victim not just of himself but the government and agent rainbow just like everyone else.
    In sound mind's ending just makes me so emotional because our patients are there with us. We keep the lessons we learned from them and we use them to show that everyone deserves love, everyone deserves to live. That even in our insecurity and self harm we aren't a monster, that we did everything we can and those lessons are what empower us to defeat our own inner demons in agent rainbow. Most important of all we make sure that it's known that we'll never forget them.
    Inmost is one of those games that you really invest yourself into and by the end you're a little sad that it's over. Kind of like One-shot or Inmost.

      @overtakenbythesea3440 Рік тому +1

      This is also coupled with In sound mind's soundtrack which beautifully characterizes it's characters even more. With each song filling us into the perspectives and the emotions of all of the patients. Other then listening to each individual patients songs, you really should read the patient summaries in Desmond's office because they do such a good job of giving us an even more in depth retrospective into all of their lives and issues.

    I haven't thought about big sliding switches on flashlights in a while.
    I do really like the mannequins.
    Game feels more intriguing than scary imo

    • @Beregond13
      @Beregond13  2 роки тому +3

      The very first flashlight I remember owning was from some Olympics promotion and it had that exact big sliding switch, it's always the first flashlight I think about in the admittedly rare instance that my brain thinks about flashlights from my past. The mannequins are really one of my favorite parts of the game. If you're curious the full interview goes into them in a bit more detail! Also, you're right on the money about the scare factor. I was creeped out at first, but once I got past the first level, it became more of a fun puzzle/adventure game with some spooky parts as opposed to a full on horror fest. Individual results will vary, of course, and that didn't make it any less enjoyable.

      Personally I find the games value comes in the story, puzzles, design, the horrors good if your someone who doesn’t like being too spooked. (Me)

    I only now got the shotgun and gas mask before going into the last tape xD You really should have mentioned the vinyl tapes that you can recover after going back to their apartments with the new tools as you encountered them. They are amazing. Also the bull is worthy of pity and our help. He just wanted to be there for his daughter.😢

    15 minutes in and I plan to finish watching the review soon. Good job :)
    I don't really like the horror genre, but In Sound Mind is the perfect exception. To me, I found the concept of the game pretty intriguing and the fact I already loved the soundtrack as a fan of The Living Tombstone was a major bonus - I love how each character has their own distinct theme with motifs littered throughout every chapter. I was quickly invested in the world and story after first playing it and it was a lot of fun. Personally I kind of felt my interest slipping a little bit as the game unfolded as I felt like it started to lose a bit of the mystery and intrigue it had initially, and at times the gameplay could get a little repetitive and I just wanted to get to the next section of the game to progress the story. Though, it doesn't help that my attention span is pretty awful so it's difficult for the large majority of games to keep my interest at times. To me, the gameplay peaked during Virginia's chapter, but most of the following gameplay was still almost as good. Ultimately though this was a really enjoyable game and I'm very glad I decided to pick it up.

    • @Beregond13
      @Beregond13  2 роки тому +2

      Glad to hear from someone else who liked it! Like I said in the review, there were times that the story also didn't grab me as strongly, but that changed when I did my second playthrough and had a better understanding of the backstory. Every single level had moments that I really enjoyed, but I think my favorite level overall was probably Alan's, just for how it keeps mixing things up and being the first level to be really expansive.

    Seriously fantastic review. I finished In Sound Mind around 10 days ago and I haven’t stopped thinking about it. I 100% agree that I wish Desmond’s personal story would’ve been fleshed out a bit more before the final reveal of the mistake he made. But! It still hit me really hard as I am an animal lover with multiple pets so it hit me right in the feels lol
