Where to Prune & Air Layer Japanese Maple - Preparation for Spring
Вставка
- Опубліковано 5 сер 2024
- Winter is a good time to sit back, examine each deciduous tree and plan what to do in the coming spring including pruning, air layering etc. In this video, I show you how I examine my trees and mark & code where to cut/air layer using garden wires so I can take appropriate actions quickly in the coming spring.

Super
I have been searching for deshojo maples for some time and you have several! Where did you find them?
Local nurseries 😁
Hey nice vid - as for the large green maple-- I like the chopping of the trunk you have marked, one thing i should say, is, you should check out the nebari before you really choose the front-- ill be sure to check back for video of that. Anyway im newer to bonsai and am entering my first spring season as a real enthusiast and grower, i do have one question to ask. I have a few japanese maples in a variety of shapes, ages, and sizes at my disposal ( gratefully from friends and neighbors in their yards) -- and throughout these coming seasons, i plan to transplant them into pots and trays and so forth--- what im asking is-- in which order do you recommend i proceed with the trees-- air layer or repot first? thanks a ton love the vids. would really enjoy hearing what you have to say about this, thank you !!!
I agree with you on how you decide on the front based on the nebari - also I look for trunk movement and branch placement as well. If you are planning to air layer, I would do that first when the trees have established roots and sending water and nutrients up and down. After all air layers are separated then I would transplant them into pots for development. Hope that helps!
@@MomijiEn thank you for your advice i will take this into account. one more thing, when am i safe to repot this year/season- i live in new york btw
@@kindofheaveneyes8600 For japanese maples, I usually repot them in late winter/early spring when buds are starting to open.
Can you tell me the size of the shin deshojo tree in pot size!! I know they be selling them by size of pots and I will like to have and idea what size to get or spect!! Will Like to purchase something like your..Thanks again!!! Lol
The ones I was showing where to air layer were in 7-10 gallon pots.
