Hi Mark. It´s a good thing to always remove bad leaves from the tree. They use to much energy from the healthy part of the tree and slow down growth. SO NICE with the maple video. My favorite bonsai.
I'm in love with maples and I too live in the PNW. Lake Stevens to be exact. It's a bit windy so I've had to be creative with my wind block & sun setup. Thanks again for the recordings!
You are the most innovative and creative bonsai artist on UA-cam in my opinion! Love your style and how you share your experience. Please do more “before and after” from nursery stock (that’s what a lot of us aspiring enthusiasts have to work with). Keep up the great work and videos!
I still have to remind myself to do more documenting.😏 Especially when it prompts further discussion. Thank you for your feedback. You can follow more of my journey on IG or Facebook and use their messaging to talk bonsai with me anytime. So glad you are here for the ride!
Already following you...just think you have a unique POV and perspective. Please keep doing more “educational” vids. Us amateurs love to learn from those who are more creative and experienced.
That acer palmatum on min 1:45 👌 min 6:32. I belive is my favorite! I would develop it as a cascade 😊 overall man you have some beautiful trees! And Im in love with the bench you have. Im new to your channel i hope there is a video on the building of the bench.
There isn’t a video of the current bench build since that was well before I started documenting. I will have one for the rebuild since it is due this winter. Pallets are fun to build with but really aren’t ideal building materials. The next build will likely use mostly reclaimed materials as well, but not so many pallets. Stay tuned...
It does look like that to me. The fall color was the best this year of any year so far. I gotta go back to that nursery and get more of these funky maples!
@@BonsaiEcho My Garnet was the fist Maple I ever bought, That was in 1999, It's still only around 40mm diameter at the base of the trunk after 20 years so it's not a fast grower by any means!! I've not repotted it in around twelve years, I think i'll treat it to some new compost come springtime!! :))
Mass-produced grafted trees tend to have horrid bulges at the graft union. More often than not, that type of grafting leads to awkward trunks that take many years to address. One technique is layering at or above the bulge to create a new root base. I just had an idea for a video, now that you mention it...
The fanciest ones get treated to an overwinter in my unheated greenhouse just so they don’t get affected by cold winds. The rest have been fine out on the benches. Winters in my neighborhood are quite mild so freezing hasn’t been much of an issue.
Some people dig the beats. Some not. 🤷🏻♂️. I typically work with music playing so it seemed natural to do something similar in some videos. It sure makes editing take a lot longer though. Most of my upcoming videos will have quite a bit simpler flow without as much music. But, I’ll still be compelled to throw in a chill track every now and then. 😎
@@BonsaiEcho I understand. I'm new to making videos and it truly does take time to put together. Still figuring out an efficient system for making videos that I'm happy with. I like to make my own music for my videos so that slows me down even more. Keep up the good work.
I have, yes. Especially because I get so many reminders that people love seeing air layering. I did just air layer all the branches on a snowbell that has a rotting base and most likely won’t make it through this winter. I have a set of criteria I use to determine what I choose to dedicate to an air layer. That’s on another video on my channel. Enjoy!
I pick it up from the ground around my home. You can see more about where my moss comes from in the Moss For Bonsai video on my channel. ua-cam.com/video/VsVkQkGSjE8/v-deo.html
I tried some hardwood cuttings many years ago. They didn’t take at the time and I haven’t had the urge to try it again. Maples grow so easily from seeds and I have so many around from the yard trees that I just don’t think about propagation that much.
Are any of your Aconitifolium ungrafted? I have one with an ugly graft that I'd like to layer above, but I'm wondering how the variety does on its own roots.
I’m collecting more vine maples and hawthorns lately too. But Japanese maples are pretty much naturalized in my yard so I also collect their little volunteer seedlings quite often.
Really enjoyed this video, thanks for sharing with us

You can call me Jared. 😀
Maples are what get me most excited to work on Bonsai every year!
@@BonsaiEcho* Sorry for the name confusion. Me to with Maples. Also the best looking bonsai. Maybe i will soon get a Deshojo and that´s very exiting.
great maples. i can't wait to watch mine grow. left a like
They are fun!😎
Love the Lions head leaf maple, nice trees👍
Amazing trees!!!! Love your videos!
Love that you’re here👈😉
You have so many beautiful maples! Thanks so much for sharing them with us.
I shall have many more!
Haha that's great! I have one. If I can keep it alive this winter I look forward to getting more. Such amazing trees.
very cool

The PNW is the place to be for maples!
Our typical partly sunny weather automagically checks off the part shade box on the plant care checklist😎.
Very nice collection and some great information. Thanks
Just documenting what I do. So glad you are here for the ride!

Nice trees I'm in Tacoma Washington I've been starting a collection thanks for the video
Howdy neighbor 👋🏼
Good to hear from you!
The cut leaf Maple looks like 'Garnet' I have one and it looks very similar :)
It does look like that to me. The fall color was the best this year of any year so far. I gotta go back to that nursery and get more of these funky maples!

Nice! I like be J maples. I have 6 small young saplings myself ✨✨ (2 dissectums, 1 shishigashira, 1 kiyohime, 1 golden full moon, 1 katsura)
Only 994 more cultivars to get🤪
Bonsai Echo 😆
really nice. I want a Maple next season. Not sure if i should get a trident.
Get a nice trident if you get the chance. They are quick to respond and can handle a lot of different climates.
Wow that green maple in the landscape is stunning! How old is it?
Not very old. Probably 30. It’s only been in the ground here for 15. Nice tree.
@@BonsaiEcho Gotcha, thanks!
So.... grafted Acer palmatum cultivars are not good for Bonsai? Love your channel!

Have you considered air layering some of those maples in the yard? That could be cool. 😉

You have very nice moss.. Do you buy them and spread them over Sphagnums or you just gather them around the house ? Thanks

Have you tried any hard or soft wood cuttings with Jap. Maples ?
I tried some hardwood cuttings many years ago. They didn’t take at the time and I haven’t had the urge to try it again. Maples grow so easily from seeds and I have so many around from the yard trees that I just don’t think about propagation that much.

The ones I have all look to be on their own roots. I’m guessing from seed. I haven’t seen much info about their response to layering.
@@BonsaiEcho Good to know, thanks! I'll layer a couple branches, and see how that goes. Cheers!
Thanks for the vid? What part of the PNW you from? Seattle Wa here.
Look towards the mountain and you’ll see me in Bonney Lake, WA
You are great brother, where did you get the Japanese maple 🍁?
I get all my Japanese maples locally from nurseries or from seedlings out of my own trees.
Love it! Check out Bonsai David’s channel, he’s the king of the Trident Maple. Thanks
He’s in my sub list. I’ve been watching his videos a lot lately.
May i know the soil mix for Maple ! anticipating ur response.
2 parts pumice or lava
1 part pine bark
1/2 part Turface (optional)
All sifted.
Bonsai Echo thanks!
A very nice collection you have. I'm not a big fan of Japanese species I think are overused in dispite of local species, still, they are nice.
I’m collecting more vine maples and hawthorns lately too. But Japanese maples are pretty much naturalized in my yard so I also collect their little volunteer seedlings quite often.
To me your Disectum looks like a 'Garnet".
I guess that means that tree will remain in my collection indefinitely since it is already a favorite of my wife and garnet is her birthstone. 🥰
Awesome trees 🌳! I could do without all the music though.
The more recent videos have less music.
Bonsai Echo ya I subscribed and have been watching through your playlists. Keep up the good work.
