She needed to get a 175 on the LSAT and got a 179 which is the Law subject test of the SATs hence the L as the first letter. A 180 is a perfect score. She wasn’t playing games!!! Going into my masters I had to get a high score on the GRE which is the test for masters and grad school AFTER undergrad and I wasn’t able to get it 😭 so even tho this is just a fun movie I’m still proud of her cuz I couldn’t do it but at least she could 🤧🤧🤧❤️🔥
The wild thing is - everyone acts like it’s surprising Elle got in. Fashion Merchandising is a business degree, she’s Summa Cum Laude from UCLA, head of a sorority, with an extraordinary LSAT score in a non-traditional education background. She would have been a top pick.
They also work hard to attract more women. It's just that her character wouldn't necessarily have been attracted to law practice. She's very brilliant. I really love how she proves her case with her knowledge of hair care. You just never know what kind of expertise is going to be important to a murder case.
@@LadyIarConnacht honestly! This movie is so iconic and Elle is extremely brilliant. Shes one of the reasons I love learning you really don know what's going to be useful in life
I honestly really adore how supportive her sorority sisters were about her studying and stuff. Like they weren't *just* okay with her choice about going to Law School, they actively helped her study and celebrated her official score with her just as excitedly as they would with any other subject.
I'm actually glad that the romantic relationship is more sidelined in this. They could've ended it with the proposal, but instead it ends of a shot of her celebrating her graduation. It's all about her own journey ultimately.
Originally the film was supposed to end after Elle walks out on Warner with her silhouette walking out the double doors. Preview audiences wanted more about what happens with the characters so they made the Graduation scene. She was wearing a wig since she'd already had her hair for a different film when they had her come back for that part. I think Wilson had a wig too. (I love movie facts!)
I like that this movie does feature women helping women and female friendships are emphasized over the romantic plot. Elle's sorority helps her study and celebrate her success, even if they didn't understand her desire to go to law school. The professor who initially gave her a hard time encourages her to stick to law school despite the disappointment over how Callahan treated her. And her California friends and the manicurist she befriended show up to support her at court.
The "You got into Harvard Law?" "What? Like it's hard?" moment is even more of a burn after you find out that he was originally put on the waiting list and had to have his father call in a favor. Also, I don't know if you've watched it, but Reese also starred in a show called Big Little Lies and it's a really great, hard hitting show. The acting is incredible and definitely another showing of her acting talent.
The women supporting women solidarity is top notch in this movie. Sure her sisters might have been confused but once Elle said she was serious they were, and they were so supportive. And the friendship that blossoms between her and Vivian when majority of the movies in this time would just keep her being the mean girl is so good
To prepare for her role as Elle Woods, Reese Witherspoon spent two weeks studying the behavior of sorority girls, as she did not wish to portray a stereotypical airhead sorority image. She states on the DVD commentary that they were all very kind and polite, and she enjoyed her time with them. She also observed women shopping from the café at Neiman Marcus, and attended law school for a day.
i like how even at the beginning of the movie, elle is very smart, but since she's smart about a "silly" topic (fashion), no one takes her intelligence seriously
Which is hilarious since fashion is actually quite complicated as is sewing, etc. People who make fun of fashion majors wouldn't be able to pass even a beginners class, guaranteed. They just assume it's all about choosing outfits for a runway.
@@killinglonliness88 totally. There's no way I could do it. One of the reasons why I don't sew clothes for myself, I get very overwhelmed by the puzzle of it all.
@@killinglonliness88 Actually it's hilarious because, factually, fashion majors tend to go on to make good money. Because for some reason nobody goes into fashion even though it's an obviously booming market. It's like how people don't go into makeup even though it is obviously a trillion dollar industry.
i LOVE the themes of women of all types supporting each other without compromising themselves. her sorority, while not completely understanding, are immediately supportive of her goal. they help her study, help her make her video essay, and are just as invested in whether or not elle gets into harvard as she is. all while still staying the way they are. there's no 'you CANT be soft and feminine and bubbly to do this stuff' and the kind of girls that would usually be the 'mean girls' are shown to be loving people that just happen to have that bubbly, materialistic personality. its just so subversive for the usual themes we see for this type of sorority and personality type for women.

I just turned 20 today, which is ironic that this movie is as old as me! Much love Nick! Been here since you watched Lord of the Rings. Always fun to watch!
I love this film but I actually prefer "legally blonde the musical" it is AMAZING!!! MTV uploaded it to UA-cam a few years back, it really goes further in letting you into people's mindset through the songs! When I first found it I thought "I'll just listen to the first song then watch it another day", nope ended up watching the whole thing at 1am 🤦🏽♀️
Elle Woods is one of the best and most inspirational female characters of all time in my opinion. Not only did she win her first case while talking about perms, but also she's kind, loyal, determined, smart, caring, funny, loves animals, supports gay rights, fought against animal testing, and even made a new friend out of Vivian whom she didn't even like at first. Plus, I personally think that this is one of Reese Witherspoon's best performances and also Elle always looked fabulous every time she was on-screen. Either way, I absolutely love her and also love this movie. Plus, she loves pink! 😍😍😍❤❤❤
I like that this movie subverted the “dumb blonde” trope and that she really is smart, Independent, and capable even if she went into it with different intentions. I also love the supportive friendships in this movie
The campus is not actually Harvard, it's USC- the University of Southern California. At around the 11 minute mark, it's Bovard Auditorium, and 31:55 was Doheny Library (I went to USC for my business undergrad 😄). UCLA was another shooting location; an absolutely gorgeous school. But both times you mentioned the campus, it was USC
If you have not seen it yet I would highly recommend the move “Remember the Titans”. It’s one of the best football movies ever made and it has a fantastic message.
Okay but like. Just seeing your notification pop up made me smile. Nick is like my favorite youtube along with Flare. I just he makes me so happy honestly with his smile and attitude. Thank you so much for everything you do
I was part of the ensemble cast for Legally Blonde the musical at my local community theatre! It was such a fun experience! It’s a great musical! You should check it out 😊 I think it’s still available to watch here on UA-cam 🤔
I can’t wait to see it! I am going to London (today actually) for a school trip and we are going to see Legally Blonde the musical at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre as one of the activities on our trip!
If you want to see an even younger Reese Witherspoon, you need to watch Cruel Intentions from 1999. It's not a comedy, it's a drama, but it's so good! It has Reese, Selma Blair (who played Vivian in this), Ryan Phillippe, Sean Patrick Thomas, Joshua Jackson, and Sarah Michelle Gellar. It's a classic.
I love this movie and I'm so glad you reacted to it! I think my favorite takeaway / theme is that Elle is always nice. She's kind to everyone and doesn't really hold grudges, but she also doesn't take crap off people. Great choice!
I recently watched this movie and I must say, Elle proved me wrong (in a VERY GOOD way.) I was fully expecting her to be the typical "dumb blonde" stereotype that changed completely to get a man. She was NONE of that. She's beautiful, she's very smart, she had integrity and stuck to her convictions (i.e. with going to college, even when EVERYBODY told her it was impossible AND when she was representing Brooke. Brooke told Elle her alibi and Elle didn't betray her friend's trust. even when the teacher and Warner pressured her to tell them the alibi. She used her OWN voice and intelligence both in the college AND when she was defending Brooke. She didn't change for Warner or to fit Harvard's definition of "worthy"...she allowed her unique identity to shine and in the end, she won the day.
I love how Nick is what we should've all been all along...a true lover of cinema who enjoys and readily surrenders to suspension of disbelief and thoroughly feels joy in the movies. Plus, it's kinda amusing to see someone with a wide grin saying "I feel so bad for her hee hee". 🤣🤣🤣
Jennifer Coolidge (Stifflers Mom) is one of the best comedic actresses. Shes the type that it naturallu comes out of her without really trying or knowing its hilarious. I love her to death
I remember my sister playing “Perfect Day” quite a few times at our home when this film first came out. I came to grow fond of the song as a result. Also, the film itself is fun too. Anyway, awesome reaction yet again! Now, onto Kung Fu Panda 3!
Love your reactions Nick, you’re always so open-minded about so many different kinds of movies and it’s so refreshing to see! If you want more Reese Witherspoon movies, I recommend Pleasantville (with pre-Spider-Man Tobey Maguire and pre-Fast and Furious Paul Walker), Election (with Matthew Broderick and pre-American Pie Chris Klein in his first movie) and Walk the Line (with pre-Joker Joaquin Phoenix as Johnny Cash and Reese as June Carter Cash, she even won the Oscar for Best Actress!)
Fun Fact: this was originally supposed to be one of those typical sorority comedies that makes fun of a dumb blonde’s antics when she somehow got into law school, but Reese Witherspoon took the role as a woman defying expectations completely seriously, which in turn inspired the rest of the cast to do the same. If Reese Witherspoon had not been cast, we might not have gotten the same Legally Blonde.
Now you need to find the songs from the musical. I really liked the opening "Omigod You Guys" when Elle thinks Warner is going to propose to her and "So Much Better" when she gets the internship. There's also a funny but probably un-PC song called "There Right There" when Elle accuses a witness of being gay (making his testimony fake).
Some fun movie trivia the frat boys weren’t actually hired they just happened to be there and they pretty much just said “hey wanna be in a movie” source- the movie commentary on a dvd I had
Some fun facts. Holland Taylor, who plays the intimidating female Harvard teacher, is the longtime partner of American Horror Story's Sarah Paulson. Osgood "Oz" Perkins, who plays the awkward colleague that Elle helps out and brings to the big trial as an assistant, is the son of the late great Anthony Perkins. He's also directed several cool horror films, including the recent Gretel & Hansel film. As far as Jennifer Coolidge, have you seen the fake-documentary called Best in Show? So funny.
So, I always forget that Victor Garber was in this movie, and then I always think of this inside joke that I have with my friend and I laugh for a while, so that’s a large part of this movie that I love (Basically, he played Anthony original production of Sweeney Todd, and during the end of ‘Pretty Women’ he bursts into the shop and yells “JUDGE TURPIN” in a very silly sounding way, and so sometimes me and my friend will randomly shout “GEORGE C TURNIP” because somehow that’s what we morphed his name into being.)
The other lawyers wanted an alibi in order to win the case and El says they’re not very good layers if they can’t win without it. She’s right. The best lawyers know how to use the law to their advantage even with a lack of information.
I don't know if anyone mentioned it or if even anyone knows but the guy at 12:27 is the son of Anthony Perkins, who was a great actor and is best known for playing Norman Bates in Alfred Hitchcocks 'Psycho'. Absolutely one of my favorite Hitchcock movies and a MUST SEE!!!! if you haven't seen it already. His son got very similar eyes like his father

that was a feminist film when that wasn't even a thing - and also the reason why every third 15 year-old wanted to be a lawyer. still iconic as fuck, still holds up (and you can't say that about most popular films in that aera!) Give it a try, it's got great actors and actresses, brilliant monologues and dialogues - and it's, unfortunately, still very up to date.)

You should react to Legally Blonde 2 now. Especially since Reese confirmed they're making a 3rd movie; which I just can't wait 2 see!
Wow I didn’t know they were making a third one! It would be pretty cool if Reese’s daughter made an appearance!
I just turned 20 today, which is ironic that this movie is as old as me! Much love Nick! Been here since you watched Lord of the Rings. Always fun to watch!
Happy birthday!
Happy Birthday!
We have the same birthday! I'm 29 tho 😭😭😭
I love that you quoted “The Princess Diaries”
19:28 EXACTLY!!! There are plenty of innocent clients, especially if you're not defending them of a crime. A divorce lawyer or the prosecuting lawyer
Yes. You are the perfect person to react to this! I love this movie... and your reactions too!
I always forget how much I love this movie until I see it again. This was a fun reaction, thanks.
6:37 that's the idea: she specifically learned how to speak it so the manicurist could follow along.
If you like Reese Witherspoon, you should watch Pleasantville.
This is the one I was going to suggest!
This movie never goes out of style. An effing masterpiece!!!
First romcom me n my mom watched together love it!! I recommend her movie "Just like Heaven" with Mark Ruffalo
Ah that's another classic :D
I love this movie and I'm so glad you reacted to it! I think my favorite takeaway / theme is that Elle is always nice. She's kind to everyone and doesn't really hold grudges, but she also doesn't take crap off people. Great choice!
This was the first DVD I owned and I wore it out! I'm really looking forward to this one.
One of my favorite 90s/00s comedies, right up there with Clueless (which you should totally also watch!)
I love how Nick is what we should've all been all along...a true lover of cinema who enjoys and readily surrenders to suspension of disbelief and thoroughly feels joy in the movies. Plus, it's kinda amusing to see someone with a wide grin saying "I feel so bad for her hee hee". 🤣🤣🤣
I still can't believe that this movie is over twenty years old now...
Thank you for watching one of my all time faves!!
Jennifer Coolidge (Stifflers Mom) is one of the best comedic actresses. Shes the type that it naturallu comes out of her without really trying or knowing its hilarious. I love her to death
The girl who played Chutney was also Velma in the live action Scooby Doo movies.
I remember my sister playing “Perfect Day” quite a few times at our home when this film first came out. I came to grow fond of the song as a result. Also, the film itself is fun too. Anyway, awesome reaction yet again! Now, onto Kung Fu Panda 3!
I always love seeing reactions to this movie!
7:48 It is Law SAT and it only goes to 180
I would do the bend and snap in 3rd grade, having no clue what I was actually doing hahaha
If this is the youngest you've seen Reese Witherspoon, I suggest you watch Election. Great dark comedy!
Yes, walk the line was great !!
Reese Witherspoon and Selma Blair were in "Cruel Intentions" together another Favorite Of Mine
If this is your youngest Reese, you should see Cruel Intentions
You have such a good laugh, glad you enjoyed this movie. It’s one of my favorites
I love the power and energy during Elle's big break in the courtroom scene at the end of this movie! so good
The dog program… IS ATACO BELL COMMERCIAL!!!! Love it
Some fun facts.
So funny.
Didn’t trump model one of his speeches after hers I’m still dead lmao
I just found your channel today and you update with one of the greatest movies (which I watch before most hearings...I'm an attorney lol). You're amazing!!
This gives everyone motivation.
If you can find it I highly recommend Legally Blonde The Musical that was originally on MTV Thanksgiving 2007.
In the musical she is the one that proposes to Emmet at the end, and I love it so much more! It's such a tiny thing but still. I enjoy this movie so much and as always love your commentary, looking forward to Moulin Rouge!
I ADORE THIS MOVIE! And your reaction! The funny thing is that most viewers also judge Elle and the movie from first impressions, and when they get to the end... heh.
“You got into Harvard Law?”
“What, like it’s hard?”
One of my favorite movie lines of all time, and one of the funniest, in my opinion. I love it.
I was waiting to see if you recognized Ali Larter, a.k.a. Brooke Taylor. 😂
I was Dewey and the Bailiff and an ensemble dancer when I got do the musical. I had fun and we had our Elle and Paulette’s dogs star as Bruiser and Rufus. Please react to Princess Diaries 2 and Legally Blonde 2. Also if you love Reese Witherspoon check out Sweet Home Alabama! 💖
I love this movie, I'm so glad you love it too! Your channel really deserves more subs
Aw thanks! Glad you like it.
I still remember the first time I saw this after renting it from Blockbuster 20 years ago lol. Bruiser is so adorable. 💕
This is one of my all time favorite movies. It helps so much with my anxiety
There's also a musical version. You can find a version filmed for MTV. :O
If you love Reese Witherspoon you should definitely watch Cruel Intentions
You should see the musical version! mTV recorded the original cast on tv years ago it’s just as funny and the music is fantastic
LSAT - Law School Admission Test
In 1991 Reese Witherspoon was in " Man on the moon" she was just 14!
The musical based on this movie is pretty great too.
"He's gonna offer her a job." Oh, he's gonna offer her a *job* alright...👀
31:59 No, they filmed at UCLA--a top (public) college in California! A _lot_ of movies and shows are filmed at UCLA, actually.
that was a feminist film when that wasn't even a thing - and also the reason why every third 15 year-old wanted to be a lawyer. still iconic as fuck, still holds up (and you can't say that about most popular films in that aera!)
(VERY different but also ABSOLUTELY brilliant and very underrated (though highly rated by actual (non-asshol) lawyers) - "Boston Legal". Give it a try, it's got great actors and actresses, brilliant monologues and dialogues - and it's, unfortunately, still very up to date.)
Fun fact: the scale of an LSAT score is from 120 to 180. So, Elle got a practically perfect score.
If u know who owen wilson is (he’s mobius in Disney + Loki and Jedediah in Night at the Museum, Lightening McQueen in Pixar’s cars etc) emmet is played by luke wilson his brother :)
I love the movie but the musical was really perfect, the songs are just 🤯
32:42 - 32:48 Yyyeeaahh,I appreciate the loyalty,but that's *not* how the law works.😅
36:22 - 37:21 OK,I guessed this dude was gay as soon as I saw him and he started to speak(I didn't need the shoes trick),BUT even if I love this scene,I *must* point out that 1)for a movie that it's all about fighting a stereotype it might be not such a clever move to use _another_ stereotype to help the main character's case and 2)I don't think he is,but he _could_ have been bi or pansexual....🤷♂️
42:33 - 44:30 Most *iconic* scene of the whole movie!🤩😂💗We're all here for that!;-D 😎👩🏼
