For me, the show is ALL about this song. Lee sang it completely as I would have directed it. Such a perfect combination of vulnerability and strength. It's such a beautiful and rich and complex song because he just goes on a journey from beaten to hopeful. When you're down to nothing, God is up to something.
Lee Best Joseph Ever. He is playing it wth passion. Telling his captors he will never be defeated. His God is with him. He is reflective and still just prior, very introspective and then wakes to this realiztion. You have to see it in context. Not necessarily to make him sad. Its passion. I love it. And his voice.
This is my favourite version of 'Close Every Door'. Lee brings so much power and emotion to the song even in this short clip. I've just finished listening to his new album 'Nothing Esle Matters' and am loving it as well - especially 'Through the Barricades' which really shows off his voice.
Many singers fave beautiful voices, most of them have a verry sofisticated technic but only the performance of Lee Mead can convulse my soul. That's the difefrence between somthing blessed by God and something briliant regarding the human measures.
Know I’m really late (like 13 years😂) but this song is really important to me as my grandparents are from Israel so when I feel down I listen to this (plus I love lee as Joseph!!)
This clip brings back very happy memories of seeing Lee sing this song in the West End show! This was filmed during one of the shows early previews so it is interesting to see how Lee was able to develop his performance. He has such a powerful voice that really fills the theatre and the intensity he brings to his protrayal of prisoner Joseph is quite remarkable. I look forward to seeing Lee in new roles - hopefully soon!
This particular version of Joseph won Best Revival at the Whatsonstage awards. The video of Joseph won an award as did the show for light entertainment. Lee has won Outstanding New Talent and Favourite Theatre Actor in the People's choice awards. Daniel has done well indeed :)
This was 5 years ago this June, and his talent shows even more now. He is reaching his full potential. His concert in February at the Birmingham Symphony Hall was outstanding. Love Songs, Musical Theatre and Pop. It was great.
ha this is amazing, shivers up my spine. He's singin wonderful and I love the kids singing in the background. I saw the show in London it was all magic and Martin Clunes was sitting in row in front of us :)
Lee !! Hij is zó geweldig, knap, charmant etc. en de allerbeste joseph tot nu toe!!! echt geweldig, en dit zingt ie práchtig!!! ik ben geloof ik verliefd... :P
Seen him 4 times (I know sad) but he's so brilliant and the show is fab. Saw him outside afterwards and he was great with the fans (shame some of them are a bit greedy) but he was the best. We love you Lee. X X X
I love this clip! It brings back very happy memories of seeing Lee for the first time as Joseph back in September 2007. He not only has the voice for the big finish but is also a very strong actor - he brought so much to the role. I'm now looking forward to seeing Lee in his straight acting debut next year in the Oscar Wilde play 'Lord Arthur Savile's Crime'. Should be fun!
Just hung about between performances on Wednesday and got lucky 'cos not the usual scrum out front!Mind you it has been a long time coming i missed him by seconds last year!!!:0)
i went to london a few years ago to see joseph, and found out that it was lee's week off when we got there! but ive just seen him in wicked so ive finally got to see him :) i think he'sbrilliant
Wow. I'm so glad he won - I can't believe he didn't hit the big time long before now. Amazing voice, amazing body - totally gorgeous and a really nice guy!
Philip Schofields version is happy, he smiles a lot as he sings it. Donny I agree is sad and vulnerable, and Lee Mead is angry. I can't think of Philip Schofield in the same light as before, knowing him as daytime television, but having seen him singing Joseph it makes me have goosebumps. What a stud muffin he was!!!

How I love Lee Mead singing this. Angry, strong and great voice.
I will be forever thankful to Andrew Lloyd Weber for this music-- so humble and yet so great!

This song is always haunting to watch or listen to, no matter who performs it. One of my favorite numbers from the show.
Sorry guys I have to disagree, its a totally different interpretation. I love it. He shows his anger and that he will not dispair. They are different.
