90% location, location, location. Needed to be said. Especially to those who incorrectly believe being equipped with an Alexa turns them into a cinematographer. I find cinematography is 90% the craft outside the camera.
Love this series man. Curious, when you explain creating pools of light; specifically by the dog on big wide (min 18) what type of light did you use the augment the practical? Sometimes you mention specific lights but sometimes not. I know you got a lot of info to cover but was curious. Thanks bro
why do you cross the line between dog and old mate on the Sofa , if thats going to screw up his key light position ,or just get him to look to his left on the push in shot , so the key is still short side , like he is in the wide . ?
@@wanderingdp Im all for crossing the line , you can ask all my ex,s :) .. just that it put the key broad side. Looks great of course , I,m just being a Monday morning DP ..
You once said you use grey sheers for the night scenes. Did you here? And I wasn’t clear about the outside. Did you make a tent out of negs and then you just pushed light in from inside the enclosure? Or do you just ND the windows right on glass and just use whatever the sun gave you?
Hey Patrick, when you mentioned you had an hour to get through this does that include lighting for the wide, was your gaffer able to get working on this set up whilst you were filming another scene? Thanks
i think using a black dog for such a low key advertisement was a really bad decision, you can barely make out his features and blends too much into the background. however was responsible for that decision needs to have a hard look at themselves
There is intention behind using the black dog… and the cons you mentioned (which may often be true), were benefits for the intent of production, the story.

Those green walls are such a huge bonus.

the idea was that the edit would flow so that you don't see the line cross. Can't remember why else it had to be like that

The black dog is symbolic of mental health and would have been necessary for the context of this project.
Lucky you didn't say that in the production meeting . A bit of research is always a good thing. :)

A black dog may be a compromise... from the original concept of a black CAT!
Tell me that didn't just send a chill up your spine.
