    This is from a TV show where Art Farmer plays with Jim Hall and Steve Swallow on Bass. I forgot the name of the drummer. The concert is available on DVD.

      That's the trouble: it's all science and no art. He displays no sense of composition and the result is this dreary muzak I play jazz guitar myself, but if I ended up playing like this I'd have to ask myself where I went wrong..

      looks like a capo to me. Hardley ever used in jazz guitar- possibly it's some kind of damper.
