I have been to Kyoto as an X-change student I really loved the theatre there and the arts and including weaving :) and you are right Youmi-San about the Maiko and Geiko. Kabuki and Noh are the most amazing and skilled artist in all of Japan

En España la wisteria se llama glicinia, florece en Abril y su aroma es muy fragante.

it was actually, in one of the interview videos it states that neither women nor beautiful young men were allowed to perform in Kabuki as it was often used to exploit them. So the only ones able to play women in kabuki theater were the older men, thus onnagata were born. Not to say it happened in every kabuki theater, but often enough that they had to make a law to prevent it from continuing. And a prostitute in the pleasure quaters was generally well taught in the arts so it wasn't all sex.

"she will repeat these movements later on, after drinking a cup of sake."
X-D made me think of how someone might say "you'd have to get me good 'n' drunk if u wanna see me do THAT again!!" LOLz

I saw "Fuji musume" live but the onnagata was Kikunosuke - what a pity not to see Tamasaburo but Kikunosuke is awesome too!

kabuki actors have even more elegance than geishas and of course even more than maikos, i know an onnagata is a representation of an ideal woman... and they do are! i really enjoy when he opens the fan

FALSE! Dancing and acting by women was forbidden on stage! In the beginning Kabuki had females playing female parts. However, once the law came into effect the creation of the "onna gata" was a necessity. Even though that law is no longer, there are STILL no women kabuki actors. There is no such thing. What you're thinking of is Nihon Buyo, which derives from Kabuki theatre (which it is btw. It's theatre). Prositution, though common, wasn't as widespread to be the cause of "onna gata".
