I really wish you'd have illustrated removing AT LEAST one of the bulbs as that's the hardest part! I can't remove the passenger bulb to save my life, which direction does it turn? Can't tell by looking at it as you can't see it!
Well, to be fair I did describe it and show the motion; how to push it in and turn it a quarter turn counter clockwise. It is the opposite to install, push in and turn clockwise. The actual socket is the same, except you just turn it an 1/8 turn counterclockwise and then pull it back and out. It is a tight fit in there, not always the easiest to turn. I'm sorry you are frustrated, try and get both hands down there on it. You can do it!
Just did mine. My cowling had aftermarket panel plugs which for the life of me I can't remove with a screwdriver. I just replaced the bad bulb on the passenger side, and I'm gonna have to get a panel plug removal tool and replace them later on. The bad bulb was popped and when I tried moving it the glass separated from the metal. I prayed and got my vise grips and twisted and pulled it out, put the new bulb in and it works for me :)
These are not halogen bulbs, they are normal incandescent bulbs, touching them doesn't matter. You are correct that you shouldn't touch halogen bulbs like headlights (which I call out in the headlight video).
The reason why this happens is because on this generation of GX470, these turn signal bulbs double as daytime running lights, in order to comply with the new (at the time) regulations requiring it, the truck was already a finished design before these regs. In countries that didn't mandate DRLs, they worked as normal blinkers. Turn signal bulbs aren't really designed to be left on for long periods the way headlights are so they burn out pretty quick in these trucks. The alternative would have been to make the headlights impossible to turn off while driving, as there was no space left in the cluster to add yet another bulb. I believe on later years of the same generation, they switched bulb types but not too sure on that. Either way, that and the crap air suspension (replaced mine with springs) are my only problems with an otherwise insanely solid truck, mine has 140k miles and feels nearly new, I think it's going to outlive me
Anyone know if you can buy the blinker bulb socket? My wire came loose and burned up the piece. Just bought a 04 in great shape except for this so far.
This helped tremendously. I've read other places you had to take off the bumper to do this, so it saved me a potential huge headache!
Idk why the gx is notorious for the turn signal bulbs to burn out very frequently

Is it possible to replace the front left from underneath instead of taking off the plastic cover on top?
For me it was easier to replace from underneath. No need to remove plastic trim cowl and more space.

Oh yeah, once I switched to Wagner BP1156NA bulbs they have lasted about 4 years, one of them just burned out today that I replaced around 2019
