Wow.... I have that same talking Mickey that I got when I was 5, and he has been so special to me through the years. But he hasn't worked in several years, and I started crying when I heard him talking and I saw his eyes and mouth move! Although I'll admit, when you were taking him apart I started tearing up and had to stop watching a few times. But that you sooooo much for this video, I know this really means a lot to us who have those talking animals.
Thanks! I have fixed everyone of my talkers I've purchased. Mickey and Goofy are my second fav. part of the collection. The first being the trio of Big Bird, Oscar and Cookie Monster!
Well finely made up my mind about geting a mickey mouse for a change - He should be coming in the mail this week - I will be doing a unboxing of him - he was tested but the owner said he was only tested with a normal tape so i dont know if his eyes or both of his mouth will move - I guess im just gonna have to wait till i get the animated tape witch should be coming soon as well - I really hope he sounds good and his speaker dont crack and i hope something on his face move's - finger's crossed!!!!!
@kaylic Toy Adventures with Devall will continue on. Devall is going to use this series as his way of showing his love for some of the more odd items and vintage toys in his collection!
I just purchased a Mickey from an older lady that has had him in storage for years. He looks like new but his eyes and mouth don't move and he sounds a bit slow/garbled. I'm going to tear him apart to see if I can get the motors to work again but I was wondering if you have any suggestions on fixing the sound issue? Is it possibly an issue with the tape player belt? I bought this to give to my kids as a Christmas gift, so any help is really appreciated.
Hmmm...the garbled sound could be a few things. Are you using old batteries? I always try brand new batteries on mine. It could need cleaned. You can clean the roller part and the metal head, the parts that actually touch the tape inside the cassette with a q-tip and rubbing alcohol. Or yes, it could need a new belt. I'll have to look up the info on what size belt the drive takes...
I did add new batteries when I got home but the sound didn't improve. I've ordered a tape cleaner but the qtip and alcohol is a great suggestion. The belt size would be much appreciated. Thank you for your help, I really appreciate it.
There are wipes for cleaning fabric like the handiwipes that used to come with KFC. Shout Wipes are a nice way to clean vintage plush toys without putting them in the washing machine. Amazon carries them.
Yo I just got one of these how do the batteries go in, this one is so clean nothing is rusted or anything. Is there a power button besides the volume slide?
I replaced the cassette belt & got the tape running, when I plug in to each other, the volume goes down to about half, as if a defective board is dragging it down. Unplugged all 6 motors from the boards, no reacttion, Mickey does not move at all, Googy tries to, massaged the eyes & nose, didnt help, replaced cord, no action. Any ideas?
Hi thank you devall your video helped me fix my original first generation teddy ruxpin and in addition I got my original mickey mouse cassette player to work I massaged his eyes and mouth up and down gently and he works excellent
Yes, Snoopy was probably the least expressive of the talking toys. He SHOULD move his mouth, his eyes should move and his ears should flap up and down with the tapes. More than likely the motors have seized up. BUT, Snoopy is also the HARDEST to work on and fix of these characters.
Can someone tell me what speaker he replaced that with? I just found one of these and I need to replace the speaker in it. I'm so excited to revive my childhood and share the experience with my kids. 😊
I used to have one of those Mickey Mouse toys until some kid stole it, and I will be buying another one. Because Teddy and Grubby are lonely, I had a mother goose her head snapped in the move, so my last 2 Talkers are Teddy and Grubby, update: i found a new mickey at a thrift store and everything works except for the eyes
@Portal2099 Thanks! Devall seems to really enjoy fixing these talkers. We know he has a Big Bird that he finally got the tape player working on, you never know the Bird may show up in an upcoming episode!
Just waiting for my Mickey AND Goofy to turn up from an Ebay seller here in the UK. Seller states that there is no movement or sound from either of them, but they have been stored for a long time. They both look very clean, with very clean contacts too. I know that Goofy will not function without being connected to Mickey, so he might be ok. Mickey comes with the correct tape, so i'm hoping that it's just a "bad connection" problem, as there is no sound and no movement. If it requires more work, your video will be invaluable, so thank you very much for that!! I'll let you know how I get on, and see if I can bring them both back to life!!
We have just got Mickey and Goofy out of the loft after 20+ years. We have replaced the cassette drive belt and got Mickey and Goofy working but the cassette will only run for a few rotations before it stops. Do you have any idea what the problem could be? Our grandchildren are waiting anxiously to see them working 100% again.
+danaherfamily It is possible....POSSIBLE...that the drive motor is going bad...I MAY have some spare parts here soon, I have a couple of extra Mickey's that I need to test and see what is and isn't working on them. Shoot me an email Devall@toyworldorder.com and I will look in the next week or so and see what I have. If I have a spare tape player minus the mother board I can send it to you to see if it fixes the issue. :)
It’s 2 contacts located near the take-up reel and the pulley the drive belt goes around to make it play. How it works is as the tape plays, the contacts push together constantly to send an electrical pulse to tell Mickey if the tape is playing back. If working properly. It auto-stops when the tape is at the end.. but if those contacts are dirty, it’ll make the auto-stop go off too early. You’ll need to clean the corrosion/oxidization off those contacts with some white vinegar and then some isopropyl alcohol. ‘Should’ work after that. Hope this helps
Wow! 11 years ago on this video! Just acquired one. The battery ends are super clean. I just don't have a tape. Does the animatronics work without the tape? Any help would be great, and it is going in the market! 😊
It's easiest to do what I did and basically take the faceoff to access the motors. Then, with the tape playing, I basically take the rubber roller on the end of the motor and roll it back and forth. Eventually, it will start to move on its own as it is supposed to.
Hello! I have a 2006 backpack toys teddy ruxpin with a broken bottom jaw. When the packaging came it was torn up. And when I held him he had a slight rattle. This is what I think may be the problem. He may have a loose motor. Now I'm not good at repairing and don't have much money. Any ideas? Thanks
I have a WOW Mickey that sadly does not move his eyes anymore. They can move with ease, as if nothing is holding them down. I think I may have dropped him at one point, leading to the loose eyelids. I have not put a tape into him, as I do not own one. Any suggestions on what I should do?
You can try, while playing one of Mickey's tapes, GENTLY moving the eyelid up and down. That MAY work to move the rubber head on the motor back and forth enough that it frees up the motor.
I have a talking mickey who's tape player and speaker work ok but he's suffering from facial paralysis. Is it possible to get at the motors without taking the head off the body?
Hi Toyadventures. Your video has really helped me fix Mickey. So far I have replaced the cassette band (replacement bands on ebay) . I have also replaced corroded contacts on the battery terminals. Mickey is now working however the motors in the head do not. I have massaged the motors as you suggested but still no joy. Any idea what the problem could be? Thanks in advance ....Bert

@@MoeDaMoe88 sadly, I believe all of them are now out of business. :( Your best bet is to keep an eye out for another Mickey for cheap that works and swap parts.

Yes, you’ll need to replace the drive belt in it to fix the warble. There’s a video on how to replace it in Teddy Ruxpin and it’s identical in how you do it with Mickey. To adjust the playback speed. There’s a small module that controls the speed of the cassette deck’s drive motor, located on the far right of the circuit board that you’ll need a jeweler’s flathead screwdriver to adjust & speed up a bit. Hope this helps
I know mickey won't move unless its one of his cassettes but if you play a normal cassette in him would it be safe or would it cause something bad to happen?
My Mickey works. Mouth eyes and nose work perfectly when he talks. When it's not his point in the tape his nose twitches a lot and his mouth will be still for a while then twitch and sometimes move when the other characters are talking. Thoughts?
The motion/position tracker on the nose servo motor will need to be cleaned.. there’s a metal contact on one of the sides you can unscrew to open up, underneath the black board with contacts on it that the wires connect to. Get some isopropyl alcohol and some q-tips and use that to clean both the contacts and the metal piece that moves inside it. Once you do that, screw it back together and it should move fine afterwards.
I also have a TALKING MICKEY MOUSE, but inserting the batteries, not a sign of life.I opened the side with the tape player, to control the contacts, and everything is in order.I just can not understand what could be the problem.
Hmmm...without seeing him in person it's hard to say. It could be a case where the mother board has gone bad, or it is possibly the actual power switch is bad. I'm just playing the guessing game here on this one.
ToyWorldOrder That's right, the light next to the switch / volume control, does not turn on.And the switch / volume control mounted in TALKING MICKEY MOUSE, in Teddy Ruxpin and MOTHER GOOSE, is a potentiometer for miniature radio pocket. That at least in Italy, it is no longer on the market for some years.
hey I have mickey, but he doesn't have any batteries as was wondering if you know what batteries he takes? we also have a goofy and if he took the same batteries too?
hi I wanted if you took the cassette player out it would the cassette tape still work with the loud humming sound because bought a couple of world of snoopy book on tape and it don't really work in a regular tape player
The loud humming sound, I believe, is the speakers they used on these. They aren't great. The hum can be heard across all of their products, sadly. And yes, the tapes won't work well in regular tape players because the stereo tracks these are recorded on are done so one side, either left or right, holds the program audio while the other side holds the track that controls the motors telling them when to move and how far. On Teddy, Mickey and such the tape players are wired so the tracks are sent to separate functions. Audio to the speaker, motor tracks to the motors.
@@groovyentertainment1982 technically, yes. BUT, because the mother boards that control the animations are different in each talker, they may or may not move to the tracks.
@@ToyWorldOrder Her tape player isn't doing anything and she's just unresponsive. I took her all apart and no wires were damaged but I noticed that the copper part on the back of her circut board is missing.
@@kempel_5566 hmmm...sadly, without another board to test the player out in I'm unsure. In my experience, if it is something wrong with the mother board, without the expertise in electronics to rebuild those, it's usually a wash.
Basically, you take the motors out, and then move the rubber wheel on the end back and forth. Basically, what happens over time is that the grease used in the motors seizes up and hardens, and moving those motors back and forth causes the grease to re-liquefy and allow the motors to once again function.
Thanks bluegrassbaby86! Can you toss a link up here for people to find your forums? I've got more talking toy goodies coming! Drop by the forums at toyworldorder as well! :)
I have no power to my mickey I have no tape to test but the green light does not come on when turned on. How can I fix this. I am old and have not done this stuff in a long time.
Hmmm. If the light comes on, it means the batteries are powering him. As for a test tape, if you use Ebay you can purchase the tapes for Mickey on there, but they DO tend to be a bit pricey because they are getting harder and harder to find.
ToyWorldOrder That's just it the light does not come on. I was wondering if it does not come on because of no tape. Or I should at least see the green light come on to let me know it works. I put batteries in and get nothing. Have not broke it down yet
Ahh. I read your last post as you HAD seen the green light. It's possible that there is a loose wire somewhere. The worse case scenario is that the mother board has gone bad. The other thing is that the power switch is bad as well. If it's the switch, those aren't too hard to replace. All of the Worlds of Wonder figures used the same type of switch, so parts are easy to come by.
Trying to tear apart a Mickey Mouse for my friend as he saw I fixed up my Teddy. Question anyone have experience with getting to Mickey's drive belt and tape deck? I can NOT seem to get this blasted copyright plate off. It seems like the whole back will break off before the glue will give. Bah, those 3rd gen models.

@@tonyhowell9394 yeah, corrosion is a pain. I usually take a very fine grit sandpaper and run it over the rust. It should clear it off enough for good contact to be made...you have to be careful, though. If it is too far gone the metal becomes brittle and the sandpaper could snap it in 2.

What kind of batteries does he take
4 C cells
I know mickey won't move unless its one of his cassettes but if you play a normal cassette in him would it be safe or would it cause something bad to happen?
Other than it sets the motors running intermittingly, it won't hurt anything.
@@ToyWorldOrder Thanks for your reply!
What music did you use in this video
My Mickey works. Mouth eyes and nose work perfectly when he talks. When it's not his point in the tape his nose twitches a lot and his mouth will be still for a while then twitch and sometimes move when the other characters are talking. Thoughts?
The motion/position tracker on the nose servo motor
will need to be cleaned.. there’s a metal contact on one of the sides you can unscrew to open up, underneath the black board with contacts on it that the wires connect to.
ToyWorldOrder I also checked the switch volume control with testere, but functional.
ToyWorldOrder I also checked the switch control volume with the tester, but is functional.
Hmmm...the light doesn't come on above the switch, right? Just nothing?
ToyWorldOrder That's right, the light next to the switch / volume control, does not turn on.And the switch / volume control mounted in TALKING MICKEY MOUSE, in Teddy Ruxpin and MOTHER GOOSE, is a potentiometer for miniature radio pocket. That at least in Italy, it is no longer on the market for some years.
This Video Was Made Before I Was Born!
Thank you for reminding me I'm old. ;)
hey I have mickey, but he doesn't have any batteries as was wondering if you know what batteries he takes? we also have a goofy and if he took the same batteries too?
Shannon Feaver they should both take 4 c batteries a piece
hi I wanted if you took the cassette player out it would the cassette tape still work with the loud humming sound because bought a couple of world of snoopy book on tape and it don't really work in a regular tape player
Oh thanks for the information and would a snoopy wow cassette tape play in teddy ruxpin or mickey mouse too
@@groovyentertainment1982 technically, yes. BUT, because the mother boards that control the animations are different in each talker, they may or may not move to the tracks.
Oh it wouldn't bother me if it doesn't move as long as it plays the stories without no problem I'll be happy 😊
Do you know I can get a back battery pack cover? Please help
Can this work with other Wow toys? I have a talking mother goose who isn't responsive and can't find any videos on how to fix her
Yes. It should. Is her tape player playing with sound coming from the speaker and she just isn't moving?
@@ToyWorldOrder Her tape player isn't doing anything and she's just unresponsive. I took her all apart and no wires were damaged but I noticed that the copper part on the back of her circut board is missing.
@@kempel_5566 hmmm...sadly, without another board to test the player out in I'm unsure. In my experience, if it is something wrong with the mother board, without the expertise in electronics to rebuild those, it's usually a wash.

Devall: what does "massage the motors" mean??
Basically, you take the motors out, and then move the rubber wheel on the end back and forth. Basically, what happens over time is that the grease used in the motors seizes up and hardens, and moving those motors back and forth causes the grease to re-liquefy and allow the motors to once again function.
@@ToyWorldOrder Do you have to open him up? Wanna fix mine?
@@danielboulanger5230 depends on what is going on, but probably, yes. I usually ALWAYS open all of them to un-stick the motors.
it was the first day of our vacation to norway
Are you selling the Mickey, Goofy, or Teddy Ruxpin?
+Gabby Draws I have a number of extras, I will have to re-test them to see if any of them are working.
+ToyWorldOrder oh okay thanks so much!
Do u have goofy
Nicole Williams I do have Goofy. :)
I'll be honest, I just kept carefully prying at it till it came off...

Do u stell want him
Come again? Do I want to keep him?
I have one that only turns on the tape player, but won't spin.
Hmmm. It's possible the rubber band that runs it has rotted away. Or that it is stretched beyond capacity.
ToyWorldOrder Possible, as i do have a replacement drive belt at the time. :)
Yeah, I would try that first. Also possible the motor is fried, and that is NEVER any fun...
Where’s his power button?
It's a dial you spin in the back above the tape door. Also controls volume.
ToyWorldOrder thank you mines broken then! Found it for £1 put some tin foil on the batteries and it try’s to start but it’s so corroded I need to fix the corrosion
ToyWorldOrder thanks for all the help
I have teddy Ruxpin his eye fell out
Nicole Williams Oh, boo! :(
ToyWorldOrder dang! 😱 I bet he look creepy af u can buy a old 1 of eBay it buy the new 1 for 100$
