Russian weapons are still better than Chinese weapons, Chinese weapons have never been used in real combat, maintenance is very expensive, and even maintenance is impossible if China does not provide components. Malaysia's air force has had a lot of experience with Russian fighter jets, having bought and used MIG 29 and Sukhoi SU30. Simultaneously, they have also operated US F18 Super Hornets. In terms of performance, the Malaysian Air Force has found that the MIG and Sukhoi jets actually do out perform many of the Western fighters during exercises and training with Western air forces. However, the Archilles Heel of the Russian jets are higher and more expensive maintenance programs. In fact, Malaysia turned to Sukhoi because Russia could not supply any more spare parts for the Mig 29s, effectively forcing Malaysia to write them off. However, Malaysia is looking to acquire the Sukhoi SU-57E FELON fifth generation stealth fighter as its next Multirole Combat Aircraft. However, Malaysia is also hedging its bets by not relying fully on Russian jets and that's why it has ordered 18 and a possible another 18 Korean KAI T-50 Golden Eagle light combat aircrafts.
This channel hasn’t delved deeply into the technical aspects; speed is insignificant compared to the aircraft's electronic systems and its Air-to-Air Missiles (AAMs), as well as its radar cross-section (RCS) dispersion capabilities in modern warfare . I will briefly summarize the theory of modern air combat for you (the specifications are entirely theoretical, with minimal or partial real-world validation). The Su-30MK2 of Vietnam is a 4.5-generation aircraft without stealth capabilities, using the N011M Bars-R radar-a type of Passive Electronically Scanned Array (PESA) radar. It has a detection range of 400 km but only for large and outdated aircraft like the B-52 and C-130. For modern aircraft (non-stealth), with an RCS of about 3 m², the detection range of the N011M Bars-R is only about 140 km (in head-on conditions). But just look around Vietnam, Singapore has the F-35 (5th-generation stealth aircraft) with the advanced AN/APG-81 radar (an AESA-Active Electronically Scanned Array), which is far superior to PESA. Its RCS is only about 0.0015 to 0.005 m² (front-aspect). Notably, China has equipped its Air Force with the J-21 (5th-generation stealth aircraft) and soon the J-31/35 (also 5th-generation stealth aircraft). They have an RCS of about 0.1 to 1 m² (front-aspect) and are also equipped with advanced AESA radars (the J-31/35 has the KLJ-7A or equivalent, and I cannot disclose the model of the J-21, but generally, they have a very long operational range). In modern air combat, the one who can “Search and Destroy” the fastest will win. The N011M Bars-R radar, under optimal conditions, can detect the F-35B at about 60-70 km, while Chinese aircraft can be detected at about 80-100 km. Meanwhile, the F-35B can detect the Su-30 at about 250-300 km (because the RCS of the Su-30 is very large due to its size, around 10-15 m²), and similar Chinese aircraft can detect the Su-30 at about 200-250 km. With such a significant advantage and their advanced AAM systems (Singapore’s F-35 is equipped with the AIM-120C-7 and soon the AIM-120D with an effective range of about 100-150 km. China currently has the PL-15 with an effective range of about 150-200 km. Vietnam is using the R-77-1 with an effective range of 200 km, but this depends on the aircraft’s radar locking onto the target), it can be said that the Vietnamese Air Force needs significant changes to effectively protect its territory with minimal losses in the event of conflict or war (which is also why they are investing more in electronic systems like radars and advanced air defense systems). In fact, I am missing some basic details about Active Radar Homing Air-to-Air missiles, but you can find more information by google it. There are some open sources that provide basic introductions and explanations of how they work.

With US sanction no more on Vietnam, other than US origin weapons platforms, France with it's Dassualt Rafale (Indonesia being a future operator of it)or Sweden with it's SAAB JAS 39E/F Grippen NG (already operated by Thailand in C/D variant) can also be an option for the VPAF. Or if they want to go for a cheaper solution, then the South Korean KAI F/A 50 block 20 and it's upcoming single seater variant can be another suitable option for Vietnam, given that, most of the countries in South East Asia (Phillipines, Indonesia, Thailand being existing operators and Malaysia also given order for this aircraft) have already opted for it. Which can increase the interoperability of VPAF with other air forces in the region, at the same time getting access to western sensors, electronic warfare and weapons packages with the F/A 50, ultimately paving the way for westernisation of the VPAF.
Yes, indeed. However, it will still depend on the quality of Vietnamese pilots on various air combat-related matters such as inter-operatibility, air maintainence/worthiness, and exercises' frequency? This is because, no single branch of military can/will be able to take on the opponent's entire military without the assistance from elsewhere, like allies and/or other military branches itself.
@@tenglim4406 Yes these things takes their own times. In the end all depends on how much the Vietnamese govt is willing to invest and what priorities their strategy makers sets for short, medium and long term.
Vietnam can buy the RSAF F-16SG which is similar to the Block 52. it has 60 operational ready of these which will be replaced by F35 in the next 5-10 years

It would be a big mistake to go for the US F-16. The US has a track record of denying upgrades, maintenance and spare parts to clients, if the client does not tow the US line in Foreign policy. The US has even reneged on sending aircraft to clients even after the clients paid for them. If Vietnam must diversify it's sources then they could consider Sweden's JAS-39 Gripen, Korea's FA-50 (or the Boromae) or the Chinese J-10C.
As seen in Ukraine war... Having jets not necessarily winning formula because of anti aircraft rockets. Russia almost ran out of jets due to shoulder fired anti aircraft

Most mainland SEA are all dependent on Chinese investments and these would include, Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos, etc etc. I would bet that if there is a war in the SCS not one of these countries will come to help if any ASEAN country was attacked.!!!
There are special complications in case of Vietnam and it is not that simple, but countries have an additional choice now.China can offer whatever USA and Russis can offer and it is much cheaper also. There are almost no conditions attached.China has an additional advantage now.Russia is almost in no position to sell aircrafts, etc. and USA sells its weapons with a lot conditions attached.
Outdated, the Viets have to shop in Europe. Like Gripen or Eurofighter. Their media is a Putin lover Ruzzia show though. So probably a no go..Korea has some good options like the Boromae..
its very hard for vietnam military to buy US aircraft/tank because of the cost. Vietnam war theory is number + reliable. They tend to mass equip military with reasonable weapon rather than spend a lot in a few unit. sometime in the future, maybe a small number of US NATO weapon can be bought to act as special unit. But never the main force. This ideology is even apply to their personel arm, when theyre sticking to 7.62x39mm and make use of old ak47 and now is a new line of their own version of galil ace.
They have been decommissioned and are in storage for old weapons. While the army purchases and develops new weapons and equipment, old weapons are only used in teaching or when war breaks out, like the Russian and Ukrainian wars, hundreds of thousands of old weapons are still used by both sides.
Vietnam also likes American and Western weapons. But Vietnam does not like having to ask for permission from the US and the West to use its weapons! American and Western weapons are quite expensive compared to Vietnam. If Vietnam switches to American and Western weapons, they will have to rebuild their maintenance team. It will not be cheap and will take a lot of time! America and the West do not sell Vietnam what Vietnam needs. They sell what they want! The US and the West are also afraid of China's reaction so they do not dare to sell weapons to Vietnam. Therefore, Russian weapons are still Vietnam's number one choice.
Over 700 million people depend on NATO Standard Military...unless Vietnam understands this they may suffer in any conflict... As happened in the VN War...1 million dead
Did you know that to kill 1 million people, the US had to spread 17 million tons of bombs throughout Vietnam? It is more than the two world wars combined and 3,500 times more destructive than the two atomic bombs dropped on Japan. It was an act of intentional genocide, but the US still pretended they were innocent. They just need a reason to kill people
@@VNCốhương2425 The US used the excuse of a tactical retreat, but in reality they were helpless. And the day of losing South Vietnam was set since they withdrew their troops and accepted defeat. Vietnamese ACES !!
Malaysia operate F/A-18D Legacy Hornet not Super Hornet.
Good luck ever getting Su-57s. Russia will take years to meet it's own orders for them even when it's "special military operation" is complete.
F5 was a beautiful fighter!
