  • Oita Hover Ferry was the only passenger ferry service using hover craft in Japan. It had been connecting between Oita city center and Oita airport. Because of the Lehman shock recession and soaring fuel costs, the service discontinued in 2009. Since there was some sharp S curves near Oita airport, we could enjoy aggressively drifting hover ferries.

My family lives in the city of Oita and it was one of the things that excited me the most, crossing the bay.

This video is four years old from the youtube debut of up loading, but Japan hasnt used this in many years since. I saw the video where this model was decomissioned.
The hovercraft needs to steer better. There should have been improvements by now.

The pilots were complaining about heavy oversteer 😉

Marvelous, what a great shame they scrapped them.
