  • It's New To Me: Ten Years After - Watt (1970). Trying something different on my channel, and will be talking about artist releases where I might recognize the name (and have nothing by them in my collection), and listen to them for the first time. Only read about the discography, reviews, etc. online after I give it a few spins and capture my first impressions. Good stuff!

Morming Ed. Ten Years After is one of my favorite bands. I discovered them by the album Rock and Roll Music to The World😊

Very cool. Trying this out as a new series, and it's getting me out of my usual go-to for certain genres. You made mention of Uriah Heep up above: I know the name, but have never listened to them, nor familiar with the band's history, etc. Might be my next entry...we'll see!

Hey Ed! Checking out your previous videos and the thumbnail for this got my attention right away. I am a big TYA fan, have their entire discography, and was lucky enough to see them 3 times. It's a good album, but their best would be 'A Space in Time', 'Recorded Live', and 'Rock & Roll Music to the World', but that's just my opinion. Cheers!

Cool, and good to know! I've gotten a lot of comments/responses on this, and having fun making this a potential series to explore bands/genres outside my usual wheelhouse. Appreciate the watch and comments 😎🎶🎸

Hey Ed. I just got back into TYA in the last couple of years. I’m picking up their Deram years, and Watt is one of the few I don’t have. They really shot up to stardom after the film Woodstock was released. British blues is not for everyone, but you might want to check out early Savoy Brown. Cheers.

Thanks Jack - appreciate the reach out! I like making these episodes - we'll see where it goes. Savoy Brown is another example (I recognize the name, but know none of the music). Maybe I'll file that for a future installment!

Hello. A few points that you may find to be of interest:
    • it’s pronounced Dee-Ram
    • not that Graham Nash but an English photographer of the same name
    • the guitar sound effect on I Say Yeah was one of the very first recorded uses of the Talkbox (sometimes called The Bag), later popularised by Peter Frampton
    • The Band With No Name is clearly meant to sound like a spaghetti western theme tune, inspired by the movies in which Clint Eastwood was The Man With No Name
    • it was their sixth album, not their fifth
    • it was recorded in September 1970, and Sweet Little Sixteen was played at the Isle Of Wight festival in late August 1970, so clearly wasn’t released in March of 1970. Their previous album - Cricklewood Green - hadn’t even been released by March 1970
    • fed up of being asked in interviews ‘Ten Years After … what?’ the title of Watt was the band having a bit of a joke about it

Hello Mike-thanks for taking the time to reply, and provide me with some additional info and items to note about the band and this release. I appreciate it! Thank you for watching as well 😎🎶🎸🎹🎤

@@onmyturntable7036 You’re welcome. One final bit of info. The centrefold photo shows the recording engineer, the late Andy Johns (then only 20) sitting at the mixing desk. Watching him at work are the late Alvin Lee (very long hair) and (no relation) Ric Lee.

@@onmyturntable7036 Further to my last comment, they both have very long hair. Alvin is the one whose head is lower.

Hi Ed - I have to admit that I know absolutely nothing about Ten Yeas After. I am not even sure I know the track you referenced at the beginning of the video. This was new to me too. I may have to stream some . . .

Cool...and neither did I! A little British Blues goes a long way with me, but it's all about trying out some new stuff. I put the link to the LP in my description - I forgot to mention that in the video. Had fun making it, and who knows where it will take me next?
