- VC Thread: Female Artist Spotlight. Give me 5 to 10!
Hello VC! Here's the criteria:
1. Show a minimum of five (up to 10 max) of female artists in your collection.
2. One of the artists you talk about is someone you have seen live. So, share that story.
3. Can be a solo artist, all female band, female led band, or girl group
4. Have fun putting your video together!

Hey Ed. I love this. I'm a little behind in my watching folks videos this week. I was struggling for a topic for my video tonight and came across this AFTER I filmed my weekly video. However, its too good for me to pass up. I'll make a response for my video for next week. I've got some great female albums I love. Stay tuned...

I know of Nina Simone because Lee Aaron is a big fan and has covered a few Nina Simone songs.
I’ll record my video in a couple of days. Lots of VC folks I know have already done theirs.

4. Etta James - A legend
5. Jo Dee Messina - Country star that should have been huge.

Hey Ed! Welcome to the vc world...at least as far as posting your own unique content . Just finished watching Mike at MGK Boston and was tipped off about your channel. Great idea for a thread. I just finished a marathon alphabet thread, so whether I do another right away...we'll see. Lol! I do speak of female artist frequently, but yes, the vc is very...shall we say, masculine!? The first five are newer artists. The 6th is an obscure act from long ago brought to light by Numero and the 7th being the second Apple album by Mary I had never heard before.

I have seen so many great female artists in concert i decided to do top ten of artist i have seem in concert and have multiple recordings
Patti Smith : too many time but I guess CBGB has to top the list
Nina Simone : NJPAC , advanced in years but still a powerhouse
Sinead O Connor : Beacon Theater
Im guessing 89 or 90
Joan Armatrading : City Winery , my wife’s favorite artist
Ricky Lee Jones : Irving Plaza at times you could hear a pin drop , the crowd hung on every word
Lucinda Williams : Central Park Summer stage
And as part of annual Tibet concerts in Carnegie Hall

And most amazing of all
Carly Simon who performed 2 songs accompanied by choir and supported by her son and daughter in law ( I’m not sure if You know of Carlys crippling stage-fright ) she never performs live
Hello Jesse-thanks for watching and for contributing to this thread in your own way: I love it! In addition to kd lang, I've seen Sinead O'Connor, Ricki Lee Jones, and Cat Power. I love Joan Armatrading: those early years on A&M are outstanding. I had other female artists/bands to show, so a Vol 2 will be forthcoming.

I saw Emmylou live but never K D, which is sad for me. I’d like to get that Armatrading cd. Were we supposed to do ten - I’m blaming that No Solution (not me for not watching this first!!).

Ed, what a great idea for a thread. I’m going to jump on this over the weekend. You have featured so many artists that I love K.D. Lang has a spectacular voice. I adore Wrecking Ball. Daniel is one of the finest producers, ever. Nina❤️

Margo's "midwest farmers daughter" is a good album.
KD, i dont have those early albums of hers but looking forward to giving them a listen.

Thanks Lloyd! Trying out some different ideas on my channel, and seeing what might stick! Yola's second lp is even better, and Laura Nyro is one of my personal favorites. I think I will do a discography spotlight on her catalog at some point. No pressure on the thread - whatever works for you!

Ed, great idea for a thread. Yes, so much of what gets shown on the VC is a big sausage party. I’m going to get on this very soon when I get a chance. My brother got me into Yola and that is a great record. It is very soulful and kind of surprising that it was nominated for best American album by the Grammys. You showed some wonderful artists that you don't see highlighted in the VC. Cheers.

Interesting thread. Wow, I haven't seen that old k.d. lang and the Reclines album since around '90 when it was all over the record stores! On cassette LOL! I just did a video on the 2024 Grammy-nodded albums in my collection and it was somewhat female-heavy, but I might do a separate video on this thread.

Hi Ed! I'm with you on Emmylou Harris. Legend. Nina Simone! I saw an excellent documentary on her last here, maybe it was on Netflix but cannot recall. David Geffen was probably Laura Nyro's biggest fan. It was mentioned in detail in another documentary titled "Inventing David Geffen"...highly recommended. I will jump on this thread for sure. Stay tuned! ✌
Thanks for watching and commenting Mike! 'What Happened Miss Simone' is the doc on Netflix. It is outstanding. Geffen/Nyro have an interesting history together. High level, he 'discovered' her, and they created a joint publishing company split 50/50. In a few short years after many artist had hits with her songs, he convinced her that they should sell the publishing and cash out. That pretty much was the seed money he needed to build the empire he has today. I've read they did not speak for decades, but reconciled before she died in 1997. Finally, a place for me to communicate all this somewhat interesting and possibly useless knowledge...ha! Looking forward to your thread!
