  • We find ourselves in a tiny village near Sparta, just 4 hours away from Athens. We attended the local celebrations/party, we had a lot of great food and learned how to traditional dance. The next way we explore more of the surrounding area by driving to the Monastery of Elona and the town of Leonidio.

    Be sure to subscribe to see more of Greece and Europe. This video doesn't even scratch the surface of what food and places we'll be exploring. Athens is our home base, for the time being, so you'll be exploring with us like a true local.

    Hello! We're Maria and Olivia. We're currently living in Athens, Greece after deciding to follow our dreams and start a new journey together traveling within Europe (and hopefully beyond soon) and filming our adventures. We love what we are doing so far, we're learning so much about the world, ourselves, and each other every day and we hope you enjoy our content and have a smile or laugh along with us!

    This is what we call "Panigiri". A celebration full of happiness, dance (and alcohol 🤪💪😂)! Great video girls 🔥🔥

    You never mention the name of the village, but this video came up when I entered "Skoura" in the UA-cam search. My grandmother came from Skoura. She was born Calliope Anagnostopoulos, born in 1900. She emigrated to the US and she and her husband opened a restaurant in Burlington, Vermont where my Yiayia passed away in 1977. My grandmother was related to Spiro Agnew (Anagnostopoulos), who was vice president of the United States under Richard Nixon.

    Thanks for showing the village celebration including you learning a tradtional Greek dance.
    How is LGBTQIA+ perceived in such a small village.
    The landscape around the monastery of Elona is breathtaking!
    Greece is really a fascinating country.

    • @MariaOliviaTravel
      @MariaOliviaTravel  Рік тому +1

      That’s a very good question Michael 😅 it’s not very well perceived, 99% of the villagers live about 50 years in the past when it comes to social issues. The internet has definitely helped with some progress but nowhere near where it should be for 2022.

    Thanks for sharing the celebration with us, what wonderful traditions! Hey, any hint of where you'd travel next? I really enjoyed your England vlogs and saved them on a list I created. I'm hoping you'll go to Scotland one day...?

    • @MariaOliviaTravel
      @MariaOliviaTravel  Рік тому +1

      Wow K.R. we are actually in Scotland right now!! 🤯😊 We are spending 2 weeks here and most of the days are exploring the Highliands. It's soooo beautiful. If you have Instagram you can follow us there @mariaandoliviavlog, you'll get live updates from our stories 😊 We just posted a Naples, Italy video. We are hoping to post our Edinburgh, Scotland video in time for Halloween 👻

      @@MariaOliviaTravel OMG that is so freaky! I've been hoping and wishing for a while (ever since I watched your England vlog) that you'd venture further north of the UK. I can't wait to watch what you produce! Enjoy the Haggis! Oh, and Edinburgh is pretty haunted, do a ghost tour! I'm planning to visit for my 50th in a few years and I want to do the Double Dead Tour as well as Edinburgh Castle.

    I visited the monastery Elona with my parents many many years ago. Are you from the small village of Kosma? My father is from Koupia. We love watching your UA-cam videos

      Aw thank you Helen 😁 I’m from another small village called Zarafona, it’s even smaller than Kosma

      Thanks for answering. We'll be in Athens in a few days, and again end of October. One of the places we'll eat at is PAX BURGER, I'll let you know if we like it as much as you and Olivia do.

    • @MariaOliviaTravel
      @MariaOliviaTravel  Рік тому +1

      That’s awesome! We actually haven’t had PAX in a while. They used to have a really nice cheese sauce for their fries but the last 2 times it was kind of watered down if that makes sense. I feel like with inflation the quality has gone down to quite a few places. If you go to PAX make sure you go across at Loukoumades and get the pistachio loukoumades, it’s delicious 😋 enjoy your trip!
