What's your favourite breakfast food? Would you try Danish breakfast chocolate? 🇩🇰🍫 Or what’s the strangest breakfast you’ve ever seen - bonus points if you tried it! LOL! 👋🏼😁🎉
Funny, you brought this up today. I tried to find some on Amazon…it came up with all kinds of Danish’s. Finally, I wrote “from Denmark”, but it definitely didn’t seem like the correct product.
In Germany we have chocolat slices too. They are called Eszet-Schnitten. I used to eat them without bread when I was a kid. But they are meant to be eaten with bread for breakfast. 😅
Yes! I remember trying this when I was visiting Germany many years ago and I was a huge fan. I had a hard time deciding whether to eat the Eszet-Schnitten or Nutella each morning. I would still have a hard time deciding between the two!
Soft boiled eggs and buttered toast cut into soldiers/fingers. Also hummus on toast topped with sliced tomatoes, or almond butter on toast topped with sliced cucumber. Yum yum!!
When younger, I would have white toast sprinkled with cinnamon sugar. This morning: granola, Greek yogurt, almonds, sunflower seeds, crainsins, few dark chocolate chips and a lil almond milk. I have dark chocolate a few times a day!!
On weekends, my favorite breakfast is a fresh pumpernickel bagel, topped with cream cheese, sliced red onion, ripe tomatoes, and some freshly ground black pepper and sea salt. Chef's kiss! (During the rest of the week, I have oatmeal with applesauce - which I also love.)
about 2 years ago I started learning how to cook mexican food and I learned that I really like a breakfast of refried beans, egg, avocado and salsa. and then I discovered chilaquiles and it makes me want to live, even on the darkest days. warm and savory breakfast if I can get it I guess.
Bakery cinnamon roll today. My heart is racing! 😜😂 Grew up and still enjoy toast, butter, jam, and cheese. Love it! Chocolate in the morning is the best. 💕🍫☕
Hi Diane! Greetings from North Rhine-Westphalia in Germany. I'm excited to say that we also know this type of bread spread here. In my childhood, we had "Eszet slices" from Aldi. We didn't eat them often, but it was something special! Best wishes and thank you for your wonderful and positive videos!😊
@dianeindenmark Greetings from Schleswig-Holstein - the northern part of Germany! I thought about the “Eszet Schnitten” right away 😊 We have it as a dark chocolate and milk chocolate. From Monday through Friday I have and yogurt with a little bit of granola and some fruit. At the weekend, I will have fresh baked German roles 😊
Greetings from England. I lived in Schleswig for 18 months as a toddler! I remember the trams and the Christmas tree with real lit candles! Can't remember what we ate for breakfast, though 😂😂 @bibiblue1469
I loved learning about Danish breakfast chocolate. My usual in the winter is steel cut oats that I cook in the instant pot with soymilk and water (set on delay cook the night before) with toasted pecans, blueberries and maple syrup. In the summer, I eat yogurt with raspberries and granola. But my favorite breakfast is freshly baked scones with homemade jam.
Haircut looks fantastic! Thanks for (re) introducing us to breakfast chocolate 🍫 😋 we have some specialty shops here, so I will look for this item. My breakfast is the same most days: eggs with vegetables, oatmeal with fruit, decaf coffee. Fun video, I love the story of you making kids lunches and Friday having the special treat (reminds me of Endeavor, and how he would tell Thursday what sandwich he would get based on the day of the week.)
Bonjour Diane from Paris'area. I really like learning about what other people eat. I visited and lived in a few places and brought some recipes back home each time. This Christmas I asked for a basket full of Danish food. I roared with laughter when opening the booklet : I have to translate the recipes from Danish. I just love it. And I can eat a Vietnamese soup for breakfast, camembert with bread, scones with jam, fruit salad, pain beurré or the croissant. It depends on what I thought I would fancy doing grocery shopping. And thank you, you rock Diane rah, rah, rah!
I would love Chocolate for Breakfast every day. I live near Cincinnati and there is what I would call a "Destination Grocery Store" called Jungle Jims. They have all kinds of unique items and displays, its really cool. You can spend the day there just looking at all the different foods. One thing they have is an isle that contains different storefronts from different countries, Italy, Germany, France etc and one is Denmark. I had a friend of mine stop in last year and buy me some Danish breakfast Chocolate. It was so good.
Yay breakfast chocolate! Coincidentally Diane, I’m having a chocolate cream cheese muffin from our neighborhood bakery today. yum…🎉 Many winter mornings I do make a homemade hot chocolate for the kids with real Belgian chocolate melted into hot milk in the pot, not a mix. 🧡🧡
I love toasted bread. I also love rye bread. Ours does t have seeds through the bread like the one you showed, but it may have caraway seeds sparsely sprinkled. For the last year I’ve been eating avocado toast. I mash the avocado on the toast and then sprinkle seasoned on top like salt/pepper or seasoning with a little kick. Sometimes I have scrambled eggs with chopped veggies, onions, bell peppers and mushrooms, sautéed and mixed in with the eggs. Have a great day!
😂 it is very funny to hear you talk dutch! Indeed in the Netherlands we have “hagelslag” and we also have “vlokken”. Thats similar to the danish slices of chocolate
What a fun tradition! I enjoyed the Italian breakfast of cantaloupe (sweet melon) with prosciutto (shaved, salty ham) and strong coffee while I was there! Very tasty!
In the Netherlands we also eat chocolate for breakfast, we have 'vlokken' (small strips of curled chocolate), 'hagelslag' (sucarish chocolade) and also Nutella. But we really love the Danish chocolate for bread, we always take a few boxes when we have had a vacation there.
At the moment, I am making Sunday mornings special by making a scrumptious mix of minced red onion, avocado, lemon juice, honey, everything bagel seasoning, a dash of cayenne, all stirred up well and piled on toasted sourdough bread or rustic italian loaf. I savour every morsel of it, accompanied by steaming mugs of loose leaf English Breakfast tea. Love my Sundays!
sounds delightful! I have oatmeal with raisins for breakfast most days, but occasionally I have dried cherries in my oats with chocolate chips stirred in at the end - more like a dessert!!
Thanks for the tip to make our own breakfast chocolate. I was ready to shell out the big bucks to try some - I love chocolate that much! My favorite breakfast is fried quail eggs (my son raises quail), rye toast, fruit and cottage cheese 😋
When I was at school (many years ago), I did an exchange with a French girl, and when I spent the week at her home, we sometimes had baguette with dark chocolate in for breakfast.
My four great-grandparents were from France, Scotland (Perth), Ireland, and Scotland (Dunbar). They all settled in the same rural area in Ontario, Canada and were farmers. None ate 'traditional' North American breakfasts, it was always leftovers from last night's supper (including pie!) and porridge on the side if there wasn't enough to go around. In my generation, it's still mostly leftovers for breakfast, maybe a bagel, weekend brunch is usually baguette with sliced meats and cheese and some yogurt with berries. Cereal, muffins, etc. are snacks, and Full English is a supper meal.
WOW-what a great way to enjoy chocolate! We will visiting Denmark this summer so boxes of breakfast chocolate will be on our "souvenir" shopping list. Thank you!
Hello from Florida Diane! I would love to try the Danish breakfast chocolate! My favorite breakfast is a mushroom, tomato & spinach omelette with no cheese and dry rye toast with cashew butter on top, along with a cup of very creamy Dunkin Donuts coffee. This is what I have on the weekends for breakfast. The rest of the time I usually have oatmeal with some kind of fruit and nuts, or cream of wheat and toast.😋
I recently discovered a British breakfast staple - baked beans on toast. They even have a preferred can of beans they like - Heinz beans in a blue can. Not available in the U.S. except in Irish specialty stores. I'm on the hunt! But any baked beans or pork 'n beans will work in a pinch. Can't wait to try chocolate on rye bread!
Jean, the Beans on toast tip is great for me 😋 n Texas. I am going to give it a try! I am also going to try a Lindt chocolate bar, with Rye Toast and butter. It sounds delightful.
Hi, Diane! Plain yogurt, blueberries, bran cereal, and a touch of granola😊 As a child two of my favorites were salt fish and fish roe cakes (really patties). So delish but I’m sure I’ll not have those items again. My husband has some dark chocolate every morning… he would love your breakfast chocolate!
In Australia we have our infamous Vegemite, a salty, savory spread. The secret is to butter your toast (not margarine) and barely spread a SMALL amount of Vegemite over. I like to have this topped with a slice of cheese for a quick lunch 😊
My go to breakfast is 2 hard boiled eggs, bacon, berries, with natural sweetener sprinkled over all. Sometimes I fast and eat this at 4:30pm and then still have dinner at 6:30. I would love to try the chocolate with rye bread, which looks like pumpernickel , which I love. The bread isn’t the same here in the US. Thanks for sharing! One day I’ll make it to Denmark and that will be top on my list to try!😊
My favorite cookie is a butter biscuit with a thin chocolate bar on top. But Danish breakfast chocolate sounds amazing! I've never seen it in the stores here in the US. In addition to milk and dark varieties, I imagine flavored combinations such as coffee chocolate (mocha) would be really popular.
I saw your video from a couple of years ago and try to add a piece of dark chocolate at the end of my breakfast each day. My typical breakfast is some kind of protein, either a homemade turkey meatball, or a hard boiled egg. Sometimes I make rice with an egg and tuna and some vegetables. After all that I need the piece of chocolate for the sweet!
We eat the same breakfast on weekdays - scrambled eggs and a piece of fruit. On weekends, we have bacon and omelettes on Saturday and oatmeal (porridge) on Sundays. Oatmeal day is my favorite, I love it with brown sugar, pecans, and dried fruit. On a trip on the EuroStar once, I had blood sausage. It was so yummy (once I got over the thought of what it was)!! 😂
It certainly sounds interesting! And probably delicious. The rye bread probably balances the sugar in the chocolate. I mostly have home made muesli and oat milk. Very healthy😊. I made such a massive batch that I need to eat it every day or it will last a year or more 🙄
Poached eggs on toast is my favourite breakfast but then I also enjoy smoked salmon with cream cheese on crisp bread, and then the Eggs Benedict for special occasions. Someday I will get to Denmark and try some breakfast chocolate on rye bread!
Thank you for explaining this! I just found your channel and knew I would enjoy your channel when I saw you set the table and set out the breakfast chocolate!
Very interesting. Chocolate is the best. The most unusual breakfast we had growing up, was fried Weetabix. Lots of butter and hot milk poured over and then sugar. Also Wheaties crushed up then topped with melted butter and a fried egg on top. Totally yummy! Not something I eat as an adult, but I have fond memories of. Thanks for the fun post Cheers
Fascinating! I love learning about Denmark (and Scotland) with you, Diane. I grew up in New Mexico in southwestern US and a breakfast burrito was my favorite breakfast (flour tortilla, scrambled eggs, hashbrowns/shredded potato, roasted green chile peppers, cheese). Now I'm in Brooklyn and an everything bagel sandwich is a favorite : )
My usual breakfast is chia pudding w/walnuts & Brazil nuts, a breakfast sausage, & coffee w/collagen & heavy cream. It’s tasty & it stabilizes my blood glucose. 😊
I never would have thought to put rye bread and chocolate together. My favorite breakfast when we go out for breakfast is eggs Benedict. At home I usually eat either greek yogurt and berries or a chocolate protein shake for breakfast.
On Saturday mornings my husband and I have home made 'mcmuffins' - toasted English muffin with peameal bacon (Canadian bacon), cheddar cheese and a fried egg (plus Branston pickle for me). I always look forward to it!
Breakfast Chocolate! Be still my heart! I sure wish we could get it here on the States! Thanks for the tip on how to make your own Breakfast Chocolate from scratch!❤️
I love it when you share local habits with us! So intrigued to try this! I sometimes put a piece of 100% chocolate on turkish fluff bread - its pretty good, too!;)
My regular breakfast is eggwhites, potato, a bit of salt and pepper, and olive oil chopped up in a bowl along with a cup of coffee. 😋 If I go out for a restaurant breakfast I enjoy an omelette or pancakes. Happy Wednesday. ❤🎉🎉
Karen from North Carolina. I’ve been eating a square of dark chocolate in the morning for years. I also eat peanut butter and egg on a bagel & often pickles or sauerkraut on the side
LOVE this! We used to live in Geneva, part of French Switzerland, and it is common there to give children a slice of bread with chocolate -- part of a chocolate bar -- as an afternoon snack. They would also give our children chocolate in the afternoon at school (where meals are included). I was shocked when I walked down the cereal aisle in a French supermarket for the first time (we did a lot of grocery shopping in France) -- almost all of the were some form of chocolate cereal! Also, when I was trying to wean my son off breastmilk, the pharmacist gave me chocolate formula for babies. And when my husband was in hospital in Geneva for 2 weeks, they brought everyone a chocolate at bedtime. So I wish we could get these chocolates here in Canada!!
Monika, I'm a Canadian living in France, and I remember being shocked to see chocolate milk (maybe it was formula?) in baby bottles here. At the time, my son was on regular formula with only water in his bottle at night (he has great teeth as an adult!). I was told to give him formula with rice pablum to make him sleep at night - nope!
@@DianeinDenmark The funny part is that my son refused to drink the chocolate formula, which no one in the pharmacy could believe! 🤣 Of course, now he is a total choco-holic and cannot believe that he ever refused chocolate! 🤣
😊 That was a fun and interesting cultural excursion! Your rye bread must be super quality!! Thanks! I now always eat a good millet porridge with raisins in it and ghee (clarified butter) and roasted walnuts on it for breakfast (soaking the millet over night and cooking the millet after a boil on low heat for an hour with certain spices). I eat it with some pear compote (one should not combine sour fruits with grains - hence pears) and I have a chicory coffee with ginger, tumeric and lecithin in it.
Oh I'd love to try that with the rye bread. I live in southeastern IL USA and I DO have dark chocolate first thing every morning. Not the best thing but, I don't really care if it is healthy or not. I love the little dopamine hit I get along with the flavor and texture. I usually follow this up with at least 8-12 oz of Spring water over the next hour. It's always a happy day! lol
My 8 yo was sitting next to me while watching your video. We live in the Netherlands and don’t have chocolate like you. Now he wants too 😂😂 Breakfast is most of the time bread with meat, cheese of peanutbutter over here. Thank you for your video
I'm from the UK and have lived in the US for 45 years. I recently started ordering Scott's Porrige Oats on Amazon. I stir in a spoon of nut butter with sliced bananas, sprinkled with cinnamon and powdered ginger. If I need an extra protein boost, I'll stir in an egg. 😊
Rye bread (I make my own sourdough since I live in the US and good bread is hard to find), Irish butter and Maine wild blueberry jam! ❤ Love your videos ❤️
We tried this in denmark a few years ago. Delicious 😋. I normally have protein smoothie or protein powder and Greek yogurt. I also love dried apricots and medjool dates. In Australia we had raisin toast too xx
Favorite breakfast: Apple Croissant or pastry. Especially one that is not too sweet and has just a bit of burnt edges on the apple slices. A full Irish/English/Scottish breakfast is also good. One of the strange breakfast is a salad bar. This was the request that our Japanese students at a summer language camp would make. I also remember just really good hot chocolate and a crusty piece of bread in Spain. MMMm.
I’m not a big breakfast eater but u had me at chocolate! I usually will put a chocolate square In my coffee esp if it’s too strong …will try your danish custom for sure once I find it!!
Fun video! I also enjoyed your older video about Palaegschokolad. There seems to be quite a lot of things that I have learned about Denmark that I love. 🇩🇰 ❤✨
Living in the US...oh how I miss pålægschokolade. Topping fresh rundstykker (I never liked it with rugbrød) with butter, then pålægschokolade. Biting through the crunch of the pålægschokolade and the thick butter....memories of the weekend family breakfast.
My breakfast is very healthy - oatmeal porridge and sometimes a homemade oatmeal muffin. I would love to try Danish breakfast chocolate with rye bread! I used to have Nutella on toast as a snack, and of course pain au chocolat is a favourite breakfast or snack treat!
Vegemite toast for breakfast 😋Butter first and a layer of Vegemite. I like the Vegemite spread evenly and thin. I also love a Vegemite and butter sandwich for lunch. 🥪
I have different things on different days , but most often, it’s a bowl of Cheerios and milk with dried cranberries, blueberries, chopped walnuts, and ground flaxseed. I will definitely try breakfast chocolate!
I have to try chocolate on rye! I would never think to put those two items together! My favorite quick breakfast is Avocado on sourdough with salt and pepper.
As others have mentioned, in Germany there are "Eszet" brand slices of chocolate. And as an au pair in Paris, I saw the children sometimes have a petit pain (finger bun) with a slice of chocolate in, for goûter (after-school snack). (Translations for anyone not familiar with French 😂). My husband will happily eat a piece of cake for breakfast, but we usually have muesli, yoghurt and fruit salad. 😇 All the best, Anne
What's your favourite breakfast food? Would you try Danish breakfast chocolate? 🇩🇰🍫 Or what’s the strangest breakfast you’ve ever seen - bonus points if you tried it! LOL! 👋🏼😁🎉
In the Netherlands we do have the same breakfast chocolate.
I would definitely try Danish 😢breakfast chocolate & Scottish bacon roll! Yum:)
Funny, you brought this up today. I tried to find some on Amazon…it came up with all kinds of Danish’s. Finally, I wrote “from Denmark”, but it definitely didn’t seem like the correct product.
We have a bowl of porridge!
Thank you for making me feel not so weird, every morning I have some dark chocolate with my early cup of tea! Rachel in NZ.
In Germany we have chocolat slices too. They are called Eszet-Schnitten. I used to eat them without bread when I was a kid. But they are meant to be eaten with bread for breakfast. 😅
Jaaa😆 die muss ich mal wieder kaufen

me too without bread
Aber die dänischen haben bessere. Eszet ist dicker und fettiger.
Yes yes and best with butter between the bread and chocolate😊
I love to hear about others traditions and customs. That rye bread looks amazing!
Soft boiled eggs and buttered toast cut into soldiers/fingers. Also hummus on toast topped with sliced tomatoes, or almond butter on toast topped with sliced cucumber. Yum yum!!
What country are you from? Guessing GB
@@mrsstropleBorn in England… now Canadian too!
When younger, I would have white toast sprinkled with cinnamon sugar.
This morning: granola, Greek yogurt, almonds, sunflower seeds, crainsins, few dark chocolate chips and a lil almond milk.
I have dark chocolate a few times a day!!
I enjoy sprinkling cacao nibs on my Greek yogurt, fruit, seeds and nuts in the mornings. So delicious 😋
We have those too in Belgium. I loved them on a warm toasted piece of white bread with some butter on it. It would all melt together 😍
Yes I got that also from my Belgian sister in law
6:00 lovely photos of your vibrant, mom❤, thank you for sharing. Sincere condolences 🙏 the loss of a loving mother is deep and difficult.😞
Thank you 🙏😊 If you want to hear more about my lovely Mum, here's a video ua-cam.com/video/plUCXBe4d0o/v-deo.html
I could eat chocolate any time of day (or night)!
Ha ha, me too, Elizabeth!

My usual breakfast is chia pudding w/walnuts & Brazil nuts, a breakfast sausage, & coffee w/collagen & heavy cream. It’s tasty & it stabilizes my blood glucose. 😊
Sounds fabulous! I put chia seeds in my yoghurt and chia fresca/iskiate drink!
I never would have thought to put rye bread and chocolate together. My favorite breakfast when we go out for breakfast is eggs Benedict. At home I usually eat either greek yogurt and berries or a chocolate protein shake for breakfast.
Oooo, I love Eggs Benedict, if someone else is making it, Cynthia!
Yes! Chocolate chip cookies are the best breakfast!
Oh, goodness, this sounds delightful.
I love it when you share local habits with us! So intrigued to try this! I sometimes put a piece of 100% chocolate on turkish fluff bread - its pretty good, too!;)
You are making me hungry, Veronika! 👋🏼😁 Luckily we are just about to have dinner (6.30pm here)
😅@@DianeinDenmark
This sounds like a yummy addition to breakfast!
In Holland too, Diane and I love it.
Your video made me smile. Thank you Diane
My regular breakfast is eggwhites, potato, a bit of salt and pepper, and olive oil chopped up in a bowl along with a cup of coffee. 😋 If I go out for a restaurant breakfast I enjoy an omelette or pancakes.
Happy Wednesday. ❤🎉🎉
I am not a sweets person, but I would definitely try on that delicious bread toasted ❤
It was a big trend to have croutons made out of rye bread a few years ago, selling them readymade in the supermarket - so funny!
I like making marmalade at this time of year, and I do love toast and marmalade. These days I try to eat more protein in the mornings.
Karen from North Carolina. I’ve been eating a square of dark chocolate in the morning for years. I also eat peanut butter and egg on a bagel & often pickles or sauerkraut on the side
Pancakes with chocolate chips, oatmeal with chocolate chips, and chocolate croissants are my favorites.
Oh my word, chocolate formula for babies - that is crazy, Monika, ha ha!
I have a homemade red lentil crepe with an egg on top. Of course, the yolk must be runny. Yummy! Every day!
It's always a happy day! lol
My favorite breakfast still is "een boterham met hagelslag". A slice of bread with butter and chocolate sprinkles.
Greetings from the Netherlands
My 8 yo was sitting next to me while watching your video. We live in the Netherlands and don’t have chocolate like you. Now he wants too 😂😂
Breakfast is most of the time bread with meat, cheese of peanutbutter over here.
Thank you for your video
Ha ha, have a brilliant evening - both of you!
Love cinnamon rolls or pancakes usually a weekend but fav is biscuits, sausage or bacon and gravy. Eggs anyway but I do whites fryed. Yum
I had a cup of hot chocolate yesterday! Today I made a mushroom, onion and cheese omelette. Garnished with sour cream and toast on the side.
My kids add eggs to their porridge too for extra protein! 👋😃🥣
Rye bread (I make my own sourdough since I live in the US and good bread is hard to find), Irish butter and Maine wild blueberry jam! ❤
Love your videos ❤️
Chocolate for breakfast? Yes, please! I would definitely try that. I think I would lightly toast that rye bread.
I was waiting for her to say the bread was toasted.
Hey Diane, I usually have bran flakes, banana & raisons & a coffee for breakfast but chocolate for breakfast sounds great 😋
My breakfast is very healthy - oatmeal porridge and sometimes a homemade oatmeal muffin. I would love to try Danish breakfast chocolate with rye bread! I used to have Nutella on toast as a snack, and of course pain au chocolat is a favourite breakfast or snack treat!
Chocolate for breakfast sounds delicious 😋
Vegemite toast for breakfast 😋Butter first and a layer of Vegemite. I like the Vegemite spread evenly and thin. I also love a Vegemite and butter sandwich for lunch. 🥪
I have different things on different days , but most often, it’s a bowl of Cheerios and milk with dried cranberries, blueberries, chopped walnuts, and ground flaxseed. I will definitely try breakfast chocolate!
I like biscuits & gravy!
TY 🥰
That's it! I'm moving to Denmark!
