Hey travis, while you have the door panels off. Remove those top staples, drill the holes out and use zip ties to hold them together. The staples are what cause the panels to crack. Won’t let the plastic flex in weather changes. I did it to mine to prevent those infamous door cracks.
To funny, I just did this on my customers' ws6. I got rid of the factory crap amp threw in the mini alpine pack amp. Alpine Separates in the doors with Coaxles on the sides since I had already added an alpine sub in his side hatch. Ofcourse Prior I did his pioneer head unit with a backup camera. 😂 He kept me busy, lol. Great job on ur installation. 🤘🤘
A nice sound system is a plus in any vehicle. When I was his age the stereo and speakers were the first thing to get replaced in my vehicle! But being his age in the 70's there was a lot of awesome music to listen to on the radio and 8 track tapes. ✌🏻
Doing this today. I watched other videos on this subject and 1 person just removed the speaker cover in the rear seat woofer area. Not that it matters to me as I have most everything removed already and I'm doing it your way. My Kee speaker kit came with (2) CDT HD2500/EX-430 crossovers. I found out that they will not be used with my Monsoon amp. The Kee kit came with no instructions. Although they put together a short video on UA-cam. Your video is better and very helpful. Thanks for taking the time to post it. Just picked up my 02 WS6 last December. It has less than 7000 miles on it. So keeping the Monsoon system close to stock is what I want. The stock speakers really don't last 22 years w/o falling apart or sounding bad. I report back with my review of the Kee system.
Hey Travis, nice job on the install. I installed the same set in my 00 Camaro SS, and they were a big improvement over the stock speakers and the fitment is spot on. You could have saved yourself some time and effort by not taking off the sail panels, and instead popping off the speaker grills, unscrewing the stock speakers and dropping the new ones in. Would also recommend adding some sound deadening in between the speaker mount and the body to eliminate sub vibration.
ABSOLUTELY do a experimental door panel vid, every panel out there is cracked so it will be your most watched vid so make it good! On another note, do you think the baffles would do good with the CDT sail panels here, I'm afraid that filmsy rubber would reverberate. Do you think that is a non issue or not?
last question and I'll be done: I've been defeated by the hangar hooks, I'm trying not to get too aggressive obviously so I don't mar things up but the lil plastic piece in the middle of the hangar hook doesn't come all the way out right? it just releases some loosening up the plastic hook to be pulled out? Am I correct in this assumption? @@TWAMotorsports

Okay all installed. The panels all came apart as outlined. Simple as it gets. Going back together is another story. Those door panels take some swear words to get them to drop into place. The door lock lever was also a pain, on the first one. 2nd one was less than a minute. Once the door panels are flush with the door, the screws went right in and lined up nice. The sound quality is amazing. Put a CD in and its crystal clear. Actually had to take a few minutes to adjust the equalizer. The settings are very sensitive now. I never had it past the 25% volume mark and it was too loud for me. Your video made this task easy. Thanks again for posting it up. The speakers are a huge upgrade. The look is 100% stock and thats what I wanted. I did the Kee level 2 upgrade. $389.97 and well worth it.
Picked up a speaker package from Kee last summer. Great set of speakers. Also, I'd suggest while you're in there, install the Autotrix window motor fixes too.
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!! I NEED THIS FOR THIS SUMMER! YOU JUST ANSWERED MY PRAYERS!!!!!!! My brother, this is just what the doctor ordered, especially with summer right around the corner! I just knew there was a kit somewhere! Thank you so much!!!!!!
Nice job on the speakers install.. looking peeeeeerfect 👍.. the door panel cracks on your son's Ws6 is a common issue.. my 94 TA door panels surprisingly is not cracked anywhere on each side... However they do need to be repainted again just because of the outer seatbelt rubbing into the plastic over the yrs.. as seen on my Instagram page.. I think down the road after I get mine up and running I'll have mine professionally painted with that plastic texture paint.. but for me now my motor and transmission is first priority..👍
I went with NVX components in the doors. I haven’t messed with the rear seat speakers or the hatch yet. My 5 yo is in love with the car and her head is right beside those midrange speakers in the rear seat. I would like to find a way to quickly turn them on and off when she is back there. I’ll have to give Kee Audio a call for some replacements for the hatch area!
Just an FYI on the fitment of the door speakers in the cradles. I swore up and down also that the speakers would not go in. Watched the video that he says they do but I think its light on showing just how to get them in. So I took that as a challenge. It really just takes some forcing them in. It does sit against and deform the back tray along with basically deforming the complete cradle. I am thinking of getting a few sets so when these explode into a million parts from stress, I have a backup set that I will cut apart and a backup set to that set. I think the way I finally got them to sit was I would screw in two opposite screws and tighten them down and then take them out and do the other set of screws. in doing this I think it started to widen the cradle. I then did two opposite screws just barley started and then pushed down one of the other sides and got a screw in. Tighten them all down and then backed them out and repeat with the other side until the cradle will let you get all four screws started and then just tighten them all and it goes in. I found though that the speakers lip seems to be larger and the whole in sits inside of the door panel is not large enough, so my door panels do not want to sit flush on the fronts.
Thanks for this video, I have planned to buy the same system from Kee Audio for some time. $400-odd for that system is really reasonable. We just returned from a long road trip in our 1999 Firehawk, and I was thinking I would like to install some sound insulation in the hatch area (which seems to be where the lions share of the road noise comes from). While you have the interior and panels off, you should install some Dynamat, so you can actually hear your new speakers!
Can you tell me what your red shop chair is and where to get one......love the Firebird content. Just bought a '97 convertible, just a plain V6 car, but I have to start somewhere. Had a '87 GTA back in the day.....kick myself for letting that go but I'm back in the Firebird scene now. THANKS!!
Great video well done gents! Stupid question, do you guys recommend any good quality FM Bluetooth transmitter? Reason why is I am considering getting collector plates which will require me to keep the factory GM Delco Monsoon CD player (no cd changed) head unit on my 97 Firehawk. I got the trunk and rear speakers done, just the door speakers tweeters left. Thanks!
I just got a 1994 Camaro. Having trouble with locking the doors with the remote. Replaced the battery in the remote first. The doors will lock but not unlock. What symptoms made you decide to change the actuators initially? The press the #1 button once and the #2 button twice seems to be working fine but the transmitter for the anti-theft is different than the doors so I guess this might mean the tx and rx circuits are OK but maybe not so?( not actually a RC car right?) Thanks Travis, seems like you had another viewer reviewing your 2 year ago video! This is what I meant by timeless! I am going to subscribe, I really thought your instructional video talents are very thorough!!! Thanks G_Dub
Hey Travis. Love all the vids. So helpful. Had a question about my 00 Camaro SS. Was planning I. New actuator/motor? Wanted to see what you thought. Thanks man.
Great video, but what I needed to see most wasn’t there. Did you replace the rear tweeters in the hatchback trunk area? And what did you do about the factory amp?
