Okay, I haven’t gotten to the part about Chuck and Cindy yet but I’m seeing all the comments about tears. Oh boy, I always cry easily so I’m preparing myself.
Praise the Lord how Cherie and Kevin’s marriage turned out!! Love it ❤ finance troubles/living stupidly with money, is a huge reason of the D word. Don’t be the next number y’all…if your spouse is not willing to change, keep praying for them! It will happen!

I was in tears the first few minutes of her call . I recently know of someone who died of brain cancer . He never told anyone publicly about it . I wish Chuck and Cindy best wishes and they have a lot of people praying for them . Me included .

Hey Dave Sojourner Truth 1:53:37 was an African American poet
She was an abolitionist who was born into slavery and escaped. There are many non profits named after her. She had a different name at birth but later changed it to Sojourner Truth. I’m surprised Dave hasn’t heard of her. We have a children’s book about her. She’s a well known American figure I thought.

Tarae, check you circuit breakers, if you haven’t already, to see if they are tripped and that’s why the appliances are now not working. I hope this helps.
Check the ground fault circuit interrupters, too. Google for more info. You can find anything on UA-cam these days. You’ve got this :-) By the way, a lady selling a dishwasher on marketplace recently told me she had a new one delivered and the delivery person pointed out a wall switch in her kitchen was flipped off. He flipped it back on and the old dishwasher worked just fine. So hopefully your appliance issues are due to something simple.
I cut up two store cards(paid off!) And sent out a donation today. I was unnerved. I am also proud of myself.

I don’t agree with not buying a condo and continuing to rent. Assuming her rent doesn’t go up each year and assuming she only stays for 3 years 3,500 dollars over 3 years comes to over 100 thousand dollars that go to absolutely nothing. When you could own the condo and make something off of it. It would be very hard to lose over 100k in value in your condo when you were going to spend that much on rent either way

“ you do need your dish washer fixed “?
Dish washer is a luxury not a need especially for a single person who would not wash more than a couple plates
I took it to mean Dave was asking whether it, along with the other appliances, actually worked or not. Because the caller said they were rather new, one would expect that they would work. My first reaction, before Dave asked, was that they worked, but she just wanted to upgrade them.

I had a financial advisor, not a Ramsey recommended one, cite all sorts of numbers about how I should take a home equity loan and invest that money with them. I ended the conversation shortly after that and never returned any of their emails/calls.
The caller at the 1-hour mark (husband and wife disagree about getting out of debt vs investing) - this would have been a great call for Dr. John Deloney. He would have said 'stop with the numbers. Take your wife out to dinner and say I love you, I want us to be on the same page. And I can't breathe with this much debt. Is there a way we can get this debt paid off so it's not hanging over my head and I can take a deep breath again?"

On the TSP answer, from what I've heard, you can't specifiy where the withdrawal comes out from (specifiy a fund in other words) . Not exactly sure, but the TSP is not as flexible as an IRA.

Tarae I practiced real estate in California for 4 years and you may have a claim against the home inspectors. Hopefully they have errors and omissions insurance. Especially with the appliances.
How come homeowners are so scared to wash dishes with their hands?
Depends on what stock you have, how much you bought it and dividend yield but! If you sell it and Place $180K into Treasury or Money Market which is around 4.5% where you have Liquidity and your Mortgage 3.7 %. You have 0.7% Arbitrage income and you always have option to payoff when you want! Your Liquidity=Cash is the most powerful force when you are headed into recession! You may have great chance of picking up second house for deep discount for cash in this recession! You may buy great business for cash in deep discount! Do not throw away your future opportunity. Your 3.7% mortgage is better than 7% inflation rate so by holding on to that mortgage you are already making money! Remember, Cash is King!

What did Dave mean by paying off debt and having less than 3 months expenses? Where does that fit into the babysteps?
Paying off ALL non-mortgage debt is babystep 2. Then you save enough money that you can live on for 3-6 months in babystep 3.
