When you said two guys watching Legends of the Fall, I thought, "Oh they have no idea what they are in for". Great story, great acting, breathtakingly beautiful musical score, setting and cinematography. One of Sir Anthony Hopkins best roles. Most people that watch it, love it.
The Watch Mojo channel became dead to me when they made their Top 10 James Horner scores-I’m 99% sure it was this one they left out. Not even an honorable mention. (Side note, they urinated on their own grave when they left Black Hawk Down off of the Hans Zimmer top 10… that score is stunning too) But anyway yeah this score is BEAUTIFUL.
I always find it funny that most guys think this is a romance film because of the cover and Brad Pitt, when it's honestly one of the strongest love letters to masculinity, brothers and men's health. Back when not a lot of movies addressed these subjects.
This was shot in Alberta, Canada. All the Natives actors are Canadian, including the main couple Tantoo Cardinal & Gordon Tootoosis, who was also the Narrator.
I know everyone loves Brad but Anthony Hopkins made this movie. I love how they presented post Civil War US and transition from colonial to early 20th century. I love his character, great movie and reaction
Legends of the fall isn't a female-centric nor a male-centric film. It's a human film. It appeals to all sexes and all ages, since it takes place over multiple generations.
Poor Alfred. He got the girl but lost her anyway because she was always sprung on Tristan from the moment she met him. Tristan was never in love with Susannah and she knew that but tried to force it because she thought the awesome sex was enough for her to keep him, knowing that he was already destined to be with Isabel 2. Her and Tristan lived in 2 different worlds and Isabel 2 understood and knew him more than most, although she was younger, which is why he waited to be with her. Susannah was never in love with Samuel either. I just think she needed something to do. 🤦🏾♀️ She got a piece of all 3 brothers, except for Samuel in a sexual sense because he died. Tristan was deeply disconnected after Samuel was killed and Isabel 2 was the only one who could bring him back. If I were Susannah I would have taken my ass back home after Samuel died.
The scene when Tristan comes back home and sees his a Father for the first time after his stroke and he writes, “Am happy,” on the chalkboard destroyed me 😢❤
I saw this movie way too young. Coming back to it as an adult, I realize it's all about the lingering nature of trauma and post traumatic stress. The Colonel, Tristan, and Susannah all wrestle with their grief, trauma, and loss, and are ultimately destroyed by the past.
I read this book in high school and it kind of haunted me since. Mad beautiful and utterly heartbreaking. The performance from Julia Ormond is so good. I feel her despair and defeat when realizing Tristan never loved her or will, like he loved Isabel. Alfred, like you said is so in love with her and wants to make her happy, no matter what have happened before. There's a section in the book that describes the moment when Tristan carries his dead wife that stuck in my head: "he carried her body howling occasionally in a language not known on earth". That's all you need to know about his love for her.
One thing I believe folks don't consider is Susanna is and has been grieving since her parents died. She tried REAL hard to be happy and follow the expectations.
the only reason this could ever be considered a CHICK FLICK is because of how great BRAD PITT looks in the movie Other then that ...this is a dude's movie
It isn't, but when it came out it was heavily marketed to women because Brad Pitt was in it. A lot of women got a BIG surprise it was not the romance they thought it would be.
"He wanted to lose the madness over the mountains, he said." This might be my favorite all time movie. An epic story with a little bit of everything. This should have won multiple Oscars, the acting is incredible.
James Horner's music in this movie is exquisite! The first time I saw this was on the couch with my grandmom with a box of tissues between us. So much tragedy in one family.
I love this movie so much! Just as an FYI-the bear is Bart, he's been in a number of films. His trainer is Doug Seus. At the end of the movie, that's Doug playing Tristan. Doug and Bart were actually playing...which looks like he's getting attacked. But, that's what they would do. If you've ever seen Doug, he's a big guy and looks like a mountain man. I've seen some documentaries about him and they had a great relationship. After Bart died, they had Bart 2. But, I do believe that was the original one in Legends of the Fall.
Can we talk about Sir Anthony Hopkins’ performance?? Post stroke he acts essentially without words - only with his facial expressions and body…. WHILE KEEPING HALF OF HIS FACE FLAT AND IMMOBILE because he’s had a stroke. AMAZING performance!!
My favorite Julia Ormond role came a few years later in the remake of the classic "Sabrina" with Harrison Ford and Greg Kinnear. Love it! Bring the ladies in for that one!
The scene where Susanna is talking to Tristan in the jail absolutely breaks me. He's in the throes of grief, she's longing after the life she could've lived with him. They're both in love with each other but can't be together. She can't even finish her sentences because looking at him is too painful and he's trying to be present and casual but his heart is shattered. The complexity of the relationship dynamics is so human, I weep every time I see it.
This movie has all of the different elements that make up a great movie; Love, hate, peace, war, loyalty, deceit, exceeding joy, unimaginable pain, life, death, wealth, poverty, condemnation & redemption. Very complex. Enjoying watching you watch. 😊
This is by far the best decision you guys have ever made. 2 guys watching "legends of the fall" I can tell you I've watched this movie multiple times, and the only reason I do watch it is because I got a girl with me. Who doesn't want more Karina Lombard? But it's a testament to her that her character still feels real and big in this film even with so few lines. Also I can't praise Aiden Quinn enough for his performance. And Anthony Hopkins and Brad Pitt cover such huge character arcs, and when you see them in Meet Joe Black you're immersed in those characters and don't think of these (or vice versa)

I don't know how you all feel about a movie being on the channel more than once but I'd really like if more of the cinepals also got to watch this movie. Also, for Julia Ormond, I'd recommend First Knight. While it's kinda cheesy, it's a fun watch. AND it has Sean Connery in it! And for some reason I feel Dances With Wolves is needed...
This is one of my all time favorite movies! I hope you enjoy 😊 Great reaction but I felt Izabella 2’s death very profoundly through Tristan his love, pain and loss and through her parents and their pain of losing their only child 😢
This is my favorite movie of all time!! So Many different layers: family dynamics, absent mother, love and romance, 3 brothers loving the same woman, young teen coming of age, allegiance to govt vs family, political corruption, alcohol prohibition, racial inequity and history, interracial relationship, tragedy! This is my all time favorite movie! It came out when I was 13 and I’ve seen it tons of times, so I always enjoy watching it again through the eyes of others who haven’t seen it. I love all of the characters, but I think Susannah is my favorite.
Tristan was all spirit and heart. They tried to understand him and love him in his ways but they knew there was a place within him they couldn't reach or relate to...
Kool Reaction to this Classic..... "Two Dudes watching Legends of the Fall"..... Such Parallels..... I first saw this in a Base Theater on Camp Schwab, Okinawa full of Male Marines/Saliors..... All the Actors Killed Their Roles......
I've always felt that Susanna was deeply infatuated with Tristan, not actually in love with him. She seemed so obsessed with the fantasy of the two of them being a couple that she couldn't really give Tristan comfort during his grief over Samuel. She never even asked him about his feelings on Samuel's death. I don't think Tristan was ever in love with Susanna. I think he cared for & had love for Susanna because of her connection to Samuel. I think Isabel Two was a better match for Tristan. She knew how to read people & she understood Tristan's character better.
I need everyone to understand that Tristin never loved Susana he had love for her, he cared for her but he was not in love with her. Remember Alfred asked and he never answered. Why? Because he didn't. If you noticed before they left for the war after the night they kissed he never looks at her. He messed up and regretted it. Then when they came back Susana was making all of the first moves.
Love this movie. I always feel so bad for Alfred though. He just wanted to be a good man and make a difference in the world, and his father just shunned him for it and never gave him the love and respect he deserved.

Thelma and Louise has a very new Brad Pitt in it and Interview with the vampire
The man who wrote this novella, Jim Harrison also wrote Revenge. Revenge was made into a Kevin Costner movie. It's no Legends of the Fall, but it is a pretty cool movie with a crazy story.
For a great performance by Julia Ormond I would recommend the sci-fi thriller "Smilla's Sense of Snow." In which she plays a strong character, I'd even go so far as to say that it is a polar opposite to Susannah in "Legends of the fall."
I can't believe you guys haven't seen this. 2 dudes watching LotF IS hilarious. There was a time period where a ton of baby boys were given the name Tristan because of this movie.
Shenandoah (1965) starring James Stewart is a film you should react to with similar themes. It takes place over a much shorter period of time, focuses more on the father rather than romantic entanglements, and is set during the US Civil War. I highly recommend it.
Again, nice job, guys. I found this movie too long for my interest when it came out, but joyed your presentation here. The movie, "7", starring Brad Pitt as a detective, partnered with Morgan Freeman, is a worthy watch, IMRHO.

It's a romance novel come-to-life, very well produced and acted, but in the end just a melodramatic romance novel.

For a great performance by Julia Ormond I would recommend the sci-fi thriller "Smilla's Sense of Snow." In which she plays a strong character, I'd even go so far as to say that it is a polar opposite to Susannah in "Legends of the fall."
The score in the film is brilliant
One of my favorite movies since I was little ❤
Saw this as a kid when it came out, so many times.. great movie. Really great.
I can't believe you guys haven't seen this. 2 dudes watching LotF IS hilarious. There was a time period where a ton of baby boys were given the name Tristan because of this movie.
One of my favorite movies of all times 💯💯
Such a gem.
You should see The Edge (1997)
Yess! How did I forget that this movie exists? One of my all time favs!
No one reacts to this. Criminally underrated movie.
40:25 “Bear’s coming back” I lol’d so hard at this comment 😂😂😂😂
Shenandoah (1965) starring James Stewart is a film you should react to with similar themes. It takes place over a much shorter period of time, focuses more on the father rather than romantic entanglements, and is set during the US Civil War. I highly recommend it.
Again, nice job, guys. I found this movie too long for my interest when it came out, but joyed your presentation here. The movie, "7", starring Brad Pitt as a detective, partnered with Morgan Freeman, is a worthy watch, IMRHO.
This is my favorite movie it never gets old.
