I have soooo many unquilted tops. I can’t keep up. Lol. I have over 20 unquilted tops. So I am right there with you!

I inherited 50 quilt tops from my grandma!! I still have about 10 to go but there is hope!! Just keep on quilting!

I really thought that writing off my plastic on to my quilt with a dry erase marker was a super rookie move.., now I don’t feel as bad...lol. It was only about 2”, but of course it was in a thick black marker! I tried several ways to remove it and believe it or not...Murphy’s oil soap got it off.

I use Crayola washable children’s markers for this. Just in case of an accident, they are washable (wash-out-able 😂) And, they don’t stink! 😊
This was a GREAT video, I enjoyed it so much. I love your casual nature with each other and it felt like girlfriends chatting but we were still led to learn.

As a very new quilter I found this extremely helpful. I have made 4 quilts and have done very boring straight line quilting. I have never heard of the preview paper. Definitely going to look for it. Thank you all.
My question on double batting is if you have wool and 80/20 will they have the same shrink rate. Since I do not know how that affects a quilt, I only make wall hangings when I double batting. Is this even something to worry about?

I take a black and white photo of the quilt. Doing this eliminates color and accentuates the quilts design elements which makes picking out designs easier for me.

If you design your borders first, do you still quilt from the center out so the fabric doesn't bunch up or is that not an issue with longarms like it can be with domestic machines? Thanks.

Do you change thread color a lot when working with blocks in different colors? Using all clear on bobbin thread. On top...Color thread white on white and clear on colors or color on colors. That’s what I’m doing this time. Was going to try dense stippling behind white on white foliage design in sashing with bigger flower design in blocks of dots. But, the needle holes look really huge (14 needle) so took it out. Looks ok with green on green tho.
I try not to change thread colors much. I will choose a finer thread and a light color then blends with all blocks or use Monopoly
Excellent, very helpful. Is the proquilter something you can add on any machine.
Oh and I did end up putting painters tape along all edges of the plastic so it never happens again.
You have to start somewhere!

Ok. So I have accidentally drawn on my quilt too instead of my preview shield. How do you get the marker out? Any tried and true solutions?
Another lady on here said Murphy’s oil soap got it out. In the future, try Crayola children’s washable markers instead. They wash out if you make a boo-boo. 😁

Hi Tessa. that's a vintage top that one of our educators quilted. We don't know the pattern for it.
@@HandiQuilter ok thank you I don't know if you can help me fine a pattern that I can work into a crossword puzzle as a family tree for my mum the blocks on that quilt are awesome instead of me just using plain square blocks

The clear paper is called Preview Paper and can be purchased from your local retailer or on the Handi Quilter website.

Great information! What is the name of the phone app that you mentioned for drawing out a design on a photo of a quilt? That sounds very handy.
It is called YouDoodle. There are a variety of drawing apps out there that you can use! I use the free version.
Can you give someone who has a domestic (Bernina790) machine on how to 'kick it up a notch' and up my game on free motion quilting and making it look good? Even when I slow down the speed and use a stitch regulator, my stitching still looks jerky and very unprofessional (in my opinion). Any hope for someone like me? Thanks in advance.
Does anyone know what quilt pattern is shown at 25:00, the vintage one that looks like beach balls?
That quilt was one that my grandmother pieced. I don't know what the pattern name is or if she even used a pattern. Sorry!
What do they mean when they say "edge to edge" -Is that quilting edge to edge, or is that a design?
Edge to edge is an overall pattern that is usually done by the computer on the quilting machine. It is not custom quilting, which is what these ladies are talking about.
Edge to Edge is any design that covers the entire quilt. It is usually a repeated design that quilts out continuously. It can be done using a computerized system, pantographs, groovy boards, or free motion.
