That was fun! I am going to try that couching on my sit down long arm machine! Great video as always!!
OMG...the one behind them makes me think of a library. It's absolutely gorgeous 😍
I finally did this today. So much fun.
Love your quilts!
Thank you!
oh yes, the freedom is exhilarating . Chuck that rule book out of the window. Especially in these crazy days, that is so vital to emotional well being. This is something we can control and easily!
Christina you have inspired me! Love this! I'm going for it 🥰
This is for me! Thx guys!
love, love, love this video
this was a totally fun quilt... love to watch it come together... and thinking outside the box is so creative... your only limitation would be the amount of your stash... LOL no limits!
Thanks ladies for this technique, I have lots of scraps, this is just another quick way to use them, no waste, fuss or bother. These are great utility quilts to use anywhere.
This was so fun and inspiring, thank you!! Pleeeeeeeeeeease do another one to show us the cathedral windows and petal shapes!!!!
ua-cam.com/video/bnptkNbXPfQ/v-deo.html We did this one back in November.
Twelve years ago, my 8 year old granddaughter tried this technique out on her quilt and I really loved it. I love a mind that knows no boundaries. I also love being reminded of her quilting at 8 years old....Poppa built her a bench that ran the length of our 10 ft. frame for our HQ 16 so she could walk back and forth without having to move a stool. She could thread the whole machine including the bobbin and she had some fun times quilting.
I definitely want to learn how to do the cathedral window and the other scrappy quilt that you made on your frame. Please come back and show us how to do that!

Y'all have helped me so much! Thanks for everything you teach. Your videos taught me how to do so much with my new handi quilter 😁
This is a great idea! I will use up my "I just can't part with scraps" AND my "this yarn is too pretty even tho it's too short to make anythings" and then PRACTICE my rulerwork and free motion! Thanks, fabulous
I enjoyed this so much! Thank you!!!
Loved this!!! I have blue jean scraps that are all odd sizes. They have been in a bag for 4 years. Now I know how to use them!!! I’m so excited to try this technique. I hope you’ll do more and show the cathedral windows and petal shapes.
What great ideas! I love watching your videos and your interactions. You guys are the best!!
Love it! Excited to try! I have oodles of scrap fabric and batting - I don't throw anything away......oye vey....
fabulous method to use scraps Thanks
Please, please, please do a video on the cathedral window/grandma scraps scrappy quilt method. Did I say "please". Now I'm on my knees begging you!
I would love to do a video on those other techniques!! I will have it added to our list for future videos!!
I also would like to know how yiu did the cathedral window one! Please please!
I love it!
This is a great video! The technique was very well explained and demonstrated. I can’t wait to try it myself.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for sharing this quilting technique on the longarm. Great idea!
WOW i didnt know you could do this on a longarm. Now i will have to get a couching foot.Have a huge box of scraps thankyou for showing us how to do this love it going to give it a go lol.
Love this! I know I will try it.n I have some chenille it on order.
I loved this video! Thank you for sharing your skills!
This was so inspiring and creative! I am going to try this out!
This is such a fantastic idea. I have so many scraps of both fabric and batting. I can’t wait to try this out on my little foot system. Thank you so much for the ideas❤️
I think this is something I will enjoy doing as I love making quilts more than using my longarm. Here we do both. Incredible.
I love this video and I am going to try it! I'm excited to! I also would like to see a video on the cathedral window!!!
Yay! Thank you!
Amazing video. Thank you. I just am not a ruler, precision kinda of a girl.
I did this after watching the video! Fun and wild!
Hi Christina! I love this idea. It’s like doing a rag quilt on the long arm. I have been piecing T-shirt quilts but have never done it on the long arm. I would really love it if you dedicated a tutorial on how to complete one on the long arm. Also a video clip on adding the chenille would be helpful

Here are a couple of videos that might be helpful!!
Inspiring. Thank you for thinking out of the box. My old next door neighbor used to lovingly piece, by hand scrap quilts and she would have just loved this idea. I can’t wait to try it.🙂
Wow! So much fun! I can’t wait to try this technique out!
Have fun! Be sure to post some pictures online of your project. :)
Fabulous video, Ladies. What great ideas!
I love this!!!! I can hardly wait to try it.
I really enjoyed watching and learning with this video! Thank you ladies
Our pleasure!
I love these quilts, I only have one longarm however so I have to wait until I don't have customers quilts to do this, I have tried this technique and it's fun, just wish I had more time! Thanks to Handi Quilter for doing these videos, they help so much! Please more more more!
Judith, I like to do these scrappy quilts as my personal therapy time in between customer quilts. It helps me prevent burn out from too many customer quilts!!
Great video and great way to use left overs from previous sewing project to make other beautiful and useful pieces. It would be nice to have more videos on what we can do with long arms in terms of embellishments and designs
Great idea!
This looks like a lot of fun. Which works better: Precision or Cruise? I am not really a manual type of girl!
I usually use Cruise.
Interesting concept.....would definitely like to see exactly how that works and what type of designs can be done. The preview picture looks like a crazy quilt. Hopefully there are some different types of patterns that can be done!
Totally fun! Thanks
Glad you enjoyed it!
Really enjoyed this video!
So glad!
Thanks for sharing! Looks like a lot of fun and I'm eager to try it.
Now I have a reason to bug my husband for a long arm I am taking donations
Perfect for the sit down machine usually used for piecing is not behaving . A great way to use scrappy stash!
Awesome!! So creative!! Would love to see the cathedral windows!!!!
So cool, I’m going to do this
Be sure to post some pics on social media, and tag @handiquilter when you do. We'd love to see it.
As you overlapped your batting scraps, it appears you didn’t need to stitch a horizontal seam line. Is that correct?
I did not stitch the batting scraps together at all. I let the stitching of the top hold the batting in place.
The scrappy quilt at 3:54/50:23 is made with Joseph's Coat blocks. EZ Quilting brand made a 3-pc template set but I can't seem to find it in the U.S. but have seen some in UK online. I saw a free pattern on Robert Kaufman website/free patterns with a traceable template and there was also pattern published in American Patchwork and Quilting Magazine October 2015 called "Daisy Chains" that is the same block. I was searching info on this block and tripped on your youtube video. How surprised I was when I saw that beautiful vintage quilt.
hello from texas
What does the back of you quilt look like when you piece it on the longarm, does it look messy?
It can definitely get a bit busy so I always recommend using a very busy print fabric for the backing.
What do you do with all your scraps if you don't keep them / use them later?
Absolutely wonderful :) Can this technique be used on the 5 foot frame? Thank you.
Yes you can!
This is the first time I have seen this technique and I’m very fascinated. I have a Gamel machine and where do I order that special couching foot. I have also been looking for that little table that goes on the throat so you have a wider space when using rulers. Where can you order those at? I am new to this and thank you so much for these teaching videos.
Hi Judy! You would have to check the Gammill website or dealer to find out about their products.
Could you do this technique with really small scraps?
Angie, I have done this with small pieces for a collage type quilt. I use a washable school glue stick to keep the pieces in place. There are many other options but I found that to be convenient for me!
How do you thread the needle with the yarn??
That's using the Couching foot.
Here's another video about it:

Just a suggestion don't call them charity quilts they are comfort quilts for those who are struggling. I haven't met anyone who wants charity. But loving comfort is welcome most times.
I don’t see this lasting very long because of the raw edges....
What a waste of time to create a mess!!!
I was taught," If you can't say anything nice keep your nasty comments to yourself"
