    In my opinion although it’s called a watch, it is in reality a compact weatherproof weather station that happens to have a watch. I like that you’re able to manually tweak the sensor outputs/readings to better reflect your own local conditions. So after taking time to set it up mine is very accurate.
    As it is robust I’ve attached mine to my pack instead of wearing it on my wrist. This way I get the most accurate data from the device.
    I like my Apache very much!

Bloody well done 👍 I think I’ll try this particular North Edge, as I’m not sure about these new types of watch, and don’t want to spend a small fortune. Exactly what I needed to know. 👌 Thanks again. The same functions you can find in the Skmei 1358, more cheap, resin body, resin glass, and a green light. And the strap is more confortable, something like you find on g-shock mudmaster. And the compas works better because the body is made from resin, not from metal.

    Can you shoot an azimuth with the compass or declination adjustments is it true north or magnetic the compass is a complex instrument and needs to be properly adjusted especially if using it with maps

    • @TheMaineiacguy
      @TheMaineiacguy  Рік тому +2

      I would definitely say that this is not a fine tuned and precision navigation device (especially for 80 dollars). It is not a satellite or GPS device either. What it is is a great budget option for an ABC watch with great battery life and versatility which will point you in the right direction and keep you tracking if you brought a good map and manual compass for land navigation. It also works great for casual hiking and shooting computation with the Altimeter and Barometer. But I would not use this as a stand alone for serious land nav if that is what you are asking.

    thanks for your time and effort into reviewing this watch. i was looking at getting this watch but it claims to be waterproof, which i need because i swim a lot, but then it says in the description dont shower with it or put it in hot water. Honestly I just put my height into Google to get a good estimate for my stride length. Then after I'm putting that into the water I just took some steps to see if I had to lengthen or shorten my stride length. If I walked 20 steps in only showed that I did 15 on my watch then I had to lengthen my strides a little bit for instance. Kind of trial and error but it didn't take too long.

    Ok, so you were going to get a SUUNTO watch. Is it that much better than this North Edge Apache watch? I would be interested to know how accurate it is, given that it is about 4x the price. Please advise.

    • @TheMaineiacguy
      @TheMaineiacguy  Рік тому

      To be honest, I found the Apache to be an accurate watch. That being said, the Suunto is an amazing watch in my opinion. I went with the Suunto Core Stealth and did an unboxing video but haven't done a full video on it yet. Here is a link to that video ua-cam.com/video/-PCb6Bx_BaE/v-deo.html . What you are paying for on the Suunto is fit and finish, it weighs much less and is a smaller design. I found the controls to be much more streamline as well. Time will tell but I would imagine that it will or should stand up to sustained hard use longer and it has a pedigree of being used in the special ops community of the US. All great things that Suunto has going for it. But I definitely still stand by the statement that the North Edge watch is a great starter for someone trying (like me) to see if they want to get into an ABC (Alto, Baro, Compass)watch without paying the admittedly high price of the Suunto. Hope this helps and thanks so very much for watching.
