- Det. Nyla Harper (Mekia Cox) is determined to make a big bust and gets herself and Nolan (Nathan Fillion) in deep. When a gunfight breaks out, Nolan is hit, and Officers Chen (Melissa O'Neil) and Bradford (Eric Winter) arrive as back-up. Watch 'The Rookie' SUNDAY 10|9c on ABC.
Officer Nolan once again teaching us the best cover is no cover at all.
And that the best way to fire a handgun is with one hand
That’s his inner Cayde taking over

what you talking about? he had cover the whole time? it's common knowledge nothing offers more protection than plot armor, get your facts right
the pure lack of recoil in this one scene is enough for Isaac Newton to be rolling in his grave
for the guy with the mp5 its kind of acceptable but everything else about this scene is garbage lmao but then again this entire show is garbage. It's crazy how people can get a contract to make a whole ass police show yet they have no idea how guns work, how ballistics work, how physics work, or how POLICING works. I have not seen a single scene from this show that wasn't unrealistic to the point of being cringeworthy.
i suspect they didn't fire any of those guns in this scene, not even with blanks. those muzzle flashes look like they're added in post-prouction
Thats what you get with crappy effects.
And plus the gun sounds for the MK-18 but they called it an AR-15 sounded like a damn light machine gun LMAO!
lol
Remember: Switching to your side arm is faster than reloading.
If Nolan decided to turn into buck from halo odst he could've just used the magnum and ended the fight

There is no way any officer would rush into any area with active gunfire like that car did. LMAO!
There's also no way a single car begins that takedown without backup. They weren't getting in the car to leave, they weren't threatening anyone, they could have waited a couple minutes for backup. Hell, they could have contained the scene and called SWAT

@@cecilhasler4517 silly goose? yep, ur definitely a kid
jonathan christianson - Silly goose is an old saying, not common today... so I’m guessing not a young person, you silly goose you! LOL! Second, no, not a LEO but I’m old, I’ve known my share and called the police before. Twice when there was gunfire in my neighborhood, both times it took hours for the police to show. The second time it was very close, a literal gun battle, I held the phone up (speakerphone) because the 911 operator asked me to speak up. I’m yelling. Hear that? Boom, rattle rattle (3x) those are shotgun blasts and the noise afterwards are my dishes in my cabinets rattling. About 5 minutes later it slows then quiets. I think wow, fast response! I finish dinner, watch TV and go to sleep. A good 5 hours after the shooting I am woken up at nearly 2 am by a female officer saying “Yeah, ahh, you reported gunshots?” No I respond, it was a gun battle, 9mm, a 45 and a shotgun, I counted about 55 or 60 shots. Where were they? About where your car is I think, but that was over FIVE HOURS AGO! “Sir,” she says... “I have a family, I don’t rush into this neighborhood.” Good to know. I live in Dallas, want to know our average police response times? Surrounding cities police departments average between 5 minutes in Highland Park ($$$), to almost an hour in other cities. Dallas police departments average response time is 2 hours according to D Magazine. I have known 4 officers who quit because they were not supported, COPS DO NOT RUSH INTO GUNFIRE, even for their own.
The irony is this show did an episode about a cop tv show not representing police accurately.

I like how he stood out in the open, shooting like Han Solo.
Still got a little bit of Cayde in him as a cop.
Yeah. If he had Ace, the situation would've been done faster lol
Would be easier if he just used ace of spades like in the cinematic
Fun fact: the actor of Han Solo didn’t like his role because his suit was uncomfortable and he had to do the role a lot of times

its a big city with a lot of traffic and sometimes the officers are really far apart in some places in America you can wait for more than 1 hour for back up
Nolan texted Chen and Bradford because Harper didn't want official backup yet as she wanted this to be her bust.
the price of the call sheet effects who is going to be the backup. you are already following the rookies and there to so it costs less to use them for backup. its the reason why in the emergency tv show the cop was always Vince. he was an actual cop who worked there and they used him occasionally since he was there

0:39 I love how they just pull up like that then Chen automatically starts shooting through the window and nearly run Over Nolan-
If you leave the scene in a "Drive-By", if you stay at the scene is it a "Drive-In"?
Best part of the scene, Chen shooting on the fly is so bad ass!
What episode is this???
And her car door is apparently partially bulletproof.
I don't really care about the inaccuracies of the scene, but Chen just opening up covering fire as Bradford speeds in is EPIC!
The chick in the car would've been shot multiple times in the abdomen and fermur, car doors aren't bulletproof. chick #2 down, guy #1 also dead since they're clearly not wearing vests.
This scene had so many flaws. Before even starting the "big bust" you'd at least think of calling back up and waiting till they arrive to execute the bust. I also love how they don't call it in the radio after Nolan gets shot.
It was to show Harper's personality of "I can do this on my own and don't need help"
This scene is a god damn mess, but some of the things you pointed out have answers. Harper got sidelined and told to stand down at the original bust, they didn't wait for back up on this one because she didn't want that happening again. They called it in, but then moved in to kick it off.
Also, they are mid gun fight with dudes spraying automatic weapon fire... do you seriously expect them to stop firing for cover to retrieve Nolan, just to report he's been shot?
Because it's a show and if they do the things they are supposed the confrontation ends with all three suspects gunned down or a boring surrender. This way actors get do do their things like bark into a radio "Officer down! Need backup". Not everything can be John Wick realistic.
@@KS-xk2so a simple officer down call out would have sufficed. Idk what you’re talking about.
@@jacobh674 I'm saying they are in the middle of laying down cover fire so Harper can go GET Nolan from where he is a sitting duck and you think it makes sense for them to stop providing the cover fire, to radio for help that they know is about 15 seconds away anyways, since they are the first car of the reinforcements that are arriving.
Am I the only one who noticed she still had the lensecap on while returning fire? Also why do you need a magnifier to shoot something 25-30ft away?
you wouldn't want one that close. it would obscure your sight picture too much. and no she didn't leave a lens cap on, its a rubber eye piece. for people who have freakishly weird eyes and require a super short eye relief and need to get in so close you risk getting an idiot cut around your eye when the weapon recoils.
@@RekzysTheTitan Her rifle had no recoil, so I don't think she would be worried about a cut.
It’s a night optic in the day
I like to add a normal officer would not get a short barrel rifle, she would get a ar15 with a 16 inch barrel
It’s also funny that she is shooting full auto when her selector switch is set to semi.
This was one of the worst gun fights i have ever seen. He ran into the open... fired a shotgun from way to far away. STAYED in the open and fired a pistol. Got shot. His partner ran over. Didn't help him up just yelled at him to get up. He did. Then they ran behind cover. And the whole time no bad guys shot at them. Like what the hell. Has none of the people working on these even seen a fire fight? Hell call of duty is more realistic then this.
Edit: Also... Nathan Fillion missed every god damn shot in this fight, how did he pass the cop test? And everyone is saying shotguns are accurate at that distance. Well it certainly didn't help Nathan! And few more things. No one is aiming properly it seems. Nathans shirt doesn't have any marks on it. And... okay i'm done. This show is awful. How is this one but they don't have Firefly anymore.
Everything else you said was correct but firing a shotgun from that range is effective in real-life unlike videogames
Robin Aleksander especially if he had slugs loaded (which he probably did because for police work they are safer than firing buckshot all over the plsces), he could prolly shoot out a 100-200 yards fairly accurately.
First Rule of a Fire Fight: Cover, Cover and then Cover. Firing only long enough to expose yourself. The Cover, Cover and Cover.
also the unnecessary nvg obscuring your red dot sight in broad daylight. I bet the director was thinking in the lines of: "HMM... how can i make this rifle look more tacticool.... oh i know. lets but a couple thousands worth of night vision equipment on the gun and burn its intensifier tube in the daylight.... GENIUS!"
is that a nvg ?
after watching 20 *Police Activity* videos on youtube, I can tell every single action on this scene was NOTHING what a cop would do
Lol that's why it would be boring and over quickly.
It all started because the female officer refused to call in a car they saw that had a BOLO and instead she orders Nolan, her trainee, to follow them so she can get a “bust”.
Ah crap, I wasn't going to cry, but the moment Nolan said "Guardian" my mind went to Cayde-6's death.

- LEO are equipped with AR 15’s (most of the time) and especially Patrol Officers and it is double tap or semi
- That air that FPIU caught would be a direct violation of ANY departments SOP
- No cover in a direct line of fire then getting shot and staying technically out in the open. Shit, that’ll get anyone kicked off the force.
- 2 patrol units to a 2143 call? Hmmmmm
- no one would approach subjects with long guns like that especially with only 2 patrol units
- what was that lady doing? Stretching her fingers or a signal that doesn’t exist?
- shot gun ranges approx 20-30 feet on remmington I wanna know what kinda shorty Nolan is using
- a caught round to the vest would decap for that long. It would knock the wind outa you a bit
- just approaching a suspect. No airplane orders or interlaced orders just approach freely?
- Nolan, 3 guys have long guns, so no cover and you pull out your handgun. Cringe
- additionally that end format of a custody approach is SO WRONG
- original approach was SO wrong
any long rifle round besides .22 would go right through that soft kevlar that nolan had on under lmao

How not to take cover.
The lack of tack gear besides the carbine and shotgun surprises me
the thing is if you stand in the middle of the road during active gunfire, you tend to get shot
Mistakes in this scene:
-A shotgun can be fired only on close range, Nolan fired the shotgun at long range and no one got hit.
-Nolan fires without cover, exposing his whole body and it is easier for enemies to shoot perfectly in any part of his body.
-Harper didn't assist Nolan after he was shot, and tells him to get up. Who tells a fellow officer to get up, after being shot?
They probably think shotguns are only for close range is all of these games.
