  • This video is a review and demonstration of the Magic Chef 27 lb. Counter Top Ice Maker. Ours is the stainless steel model (MCIM22ST). It also comes in an all-black model (MCIM22B). It makes ice in as little as seven minutes and has two ice cube sizes. It was the unit with the smallest footprint we could find with a hidden drain plug that wasn’t sticking out the side. It runs very quiet and so far performs well. Affiliate links to both the stainless steel and black models are below.

      Can you please tell me what you bought and the energy requirements for it. That should be on the back somewhere. I need to know the volts and watts and amps. I have a small solar setup, and I am looking for a ice machine that would work with it. Thanks.

    We’ve had ours since Summer of 2016. We run it long enough to fill the tub 11” x 8” x 4” in the freezer. That takes about 4 to 6 hours. We do that about every week or two. It works great. FYI…. The ice get to it’s full size when the water temp reaches 40 degrees Fahrenheit.

    Thanks so much for the video. I just unpacked mine and am letting it sit the recommended hour before I start making cubes, so I looked this video up. It looks like I made the right choice; there are so many products like this on the market. I was going to buy this from a catalog that my mom had, and it was $100 more than on Amazon. Wow - And those three and a half inches make a big difference, and I have just the right amount of space. Thanks so much for sharing!!

      Hi Laurie, it does appear these ice machines are all about the same. We liked this ome because of the size. Most people i talk to say they only last a few years. Ours is still orking well after 2 years. It is funny how the price varies for basically the same machine. Good luck and thanks for watching, Lou.

      @@RVHabit I don’t understand the “letting it sit for an hour before plugging it in” part that it says in the manual? It’s just sitting on a shelf why do I have to wait when I bring it home? Or do you just wait an hour after filling with water? Not very clear in the manual

    • @RVHabit

      Hi Mike, The unit has refrigerant. If it been moving around such as right after purchase and unpacking you want the refrigerant to settle. If the refrigerant has not settled properly it can cause a malfunction. Typically if it is stored on a counter or shelf you can then just start it up.

    I have one of these too. Bought at Home Depot. I LOVE it. It has been a real workhorse. Run it every day. Please understand, it is NOT a freezer so the ice will melt if you leave it in the basket. When it's full, use it or move it to a freezer.

    ** IMPORTANT - Magic Chef and Igloo are the same design internally. When full of water, be sure these icemakers are *NEVER* level or tilted to the right (when facing the front of the machine.) Better to shim two of the rubber feet with folded cardboard so it is slightly tilted to the LEFT. Why? When it fills the bucket, it *intentionally* *overflows* it to chill the remaining water. If the machine is tilted to the right, water runs down the right end of the bucket, drips on the STEEL motor bushing/STEEL shaft creating RUST. This WILL eventually seize bucket motor.

      you don't think that's intentional to cool off the motor? Kind of like a A/C window unit? the condensation builds up in the pan and the fan hits the water to cool off the motor? Idk anything about these little ice makers, so just asking!

      Hi Dave and Kim, Mine has held up excellent. I keep it outside when I camp on a small cooking table we setup. It makes a ton of ice. The only minor complaint I would have is the ice is hollow so it does melt quick. This is the way all the ice machines make ice so I guess you can just say it is the nature of the beast. Stay safe and happy travels and thanks for watching!

    I have one just like this. The ice maker makes ice quickly and is very quiet (except for the dumping sound). My one issue... when the ice dumps, it starts melting right away. DISCLAIMER: This is NOT a refrigerator, it's an ice maker. It is NOT a freezer, it is an ice maker. So yes, it makes ice and makes it well. BUT IT DOES NOT KEEP IT FROZEN. Make sure you put it in the freezer when it is dumped. I still love the heck out of my machine though and I am satisfied with my purchase. ($89.00 at Home Depot)

    • @RVHabit
      @RVHabit  6 років тому +2

      You are correct the ice will melt back into the water reservoir. It is not a freezer it simply makes ice. We still love and use ours a year after we got it. Works great. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    After making ice, will it keep them cold? Like, if I fill this machine in the morning before I leave for work and turn it on, will I have ice cubes when I get home? Or will they have all have melted?

    • @RVHabit
      @RVHabit  2 роки тому +1

      It recycles the ice cubes. so when they melt it drips back into the reservoir and it makes more ice. It is not a freezer so ice is constantly melting and it is always making more ice.
