    I wanted to add. I realized, and many others have also commented, that you can remove the top of the machine for easier cleaning. There are 2 small screws when you lift the lid. Unscrew those, and you can get the lid off and make it even easier to clean.

    Got an ice maker machine off TikTok recently and started seeing the pink color and became very concerned. Me and my dog eat ice lol, so I came straight to UA-cam for cleaning instructions and this was so helpful. Thank you! ❤

      No problem! And for an even deeper cleaning, there are two small screws under the lid. Lift up the lid for the ice, and you'll see two small screws (if you have the same or similar model). You can remove those and get inside even more for better cleaning.

    Good video. Couple of suggestions. First, I used my WaterPik with a vinegar solution to "sand blast" the inside. I was able to reach into areas that were otherwise hard to get at. Wear glasses when doing this because it splashes back. Also, at least on my machine, the top comes off easily with just two screws. Again, it makes it easier to get to areas you could not normally reach.

    • @earthling1984
      @earthling1984  12 днів тому

      Nice idea with the waterpik! And yes, I did realize (after this video) that those 2 screws are there, and can easily take the top off.

    Yes press and hold POWER for 5 seconds and it will enter self clean mode. Takes about 20 minutes and yess you might need to rub on some tuff spots but it really washes out the internal parts good.

      I have tried this on my machine multiple times. Never worked :( . But, even if it does that, still use vinegar! Pushing water through does not destroy the mold. Add vinegar and run that, scrub as I did in this video. Basically do the same thing I did in this video, but also run the cleaning cycle if your machine will go into it.

    If the machine is running round the clock, it will stay cold enough to prevent mold from starting. I've had an identical one for almost 2 years and it's used and refilled every day. I clean it every 3 or 4 months and have never seen any discoloration in it. The only reason I can surmise for that is that I use only filtered water. What we're seeing in this video looks like water sediments from less than pure water.

    I have a Frigidaire that is about 1.5 yrs old. It has started to stop after half a basket of ice. The red light comes on, saying I need to add water. It has water, I've cleaned the fins of dust, blew the hose & both locations where the hose connects. Cleaned with vinegar/water... I watched the water travel through hose into tray... so I know it isn't plugged. Might it be I need a new pump!?

      I know you needed this info a year ago, but here goes. When mine was new, I thought it had quit working after the add water light came on and it didn't make ice after adding it, but I discovered that after adding water, it had to be powered off and back on for it to work. Unfortunately, that particular light burned out, so I just have to keep an eye on the water level. The old "did you try turning it off and on?" actually was the key .

      I agree. I use filtered water in mine and when I clean it, every 3 or 4 months, I've never seen any discoloration or mold in it. Since it stays on 24/7, it stays too cold to allow mold to start, so less than pure water is likely the problem.

      @ricky-sanchez 4 місяці тому

      This happened because you hadn't cleaned it for a really long time.
      The vinegar broke down thick calcium deposits that eventually broke into fragments that got stuck under some moving mechanism. The mechanism probably got caught on the fragments and eventually tried to force itself past the fragment, causing something internal to rupture.
      Sort of like forcing a door shut on a water balloon.

    The problem with these machines is that they have a Reservoir you can't reach or inspect... anything could be growing in there and you'd never know.

    • @earthling1984

      I can get in there very well. But of course there are flaws to anything. Now, if you drink soda from a fountain then that is probably 1000% dirtier.

      @@earthling1984 The reservoir is behind that plastic piece that you took off. You tried to clean inside of it, but it's way back up inside the machine, and there is no way to reach it.
      It is assume that it would be cleaned with the vinegar and water solution during self cleaning, but that isn't always the case.
      My machine started making me sick after a few months, even after cleaning it once a month.

      @@ricky-sanchezI thought I cleaned my machine thoroughly (every other week) until one day I watched the water reservoir rotate while working and saw what was underneath and at the very top🤮…I also started to get sick often (I usually get a cold/flu once every 3 years)and was having respiratory issues…I think this was the culprit…these machines are impossible to clean completely without taking apart…I was hoping someone knew another cleaning method because I didn’t want to throw my machine away but so far nothing so I will give away for parts it’s just not worth it
