- Well, It's actually 20-30mins ride from SF, but it's my favorite decent in the SF bay area. I also bombed this on a brakeless BMX . Join the family: / @terryb

Right before 9/11/01 I was doing that descent, hitting around 40 mph when my back tire blew out and sent me flying on my Lycra covered ass about 50-60’. Must have hit a sharp rock or a piece of glass. Lots of blood and I still have the scars. I don’t really remember doing it however I managed to walk my bike back up to the top of the hill where luckily there was a cab that just dropped off some hikers. I made it a point to carry a $20 bill with me and it came in handy that day. I took off my shirt and wrapped it around my waist to not get blood on his seats. I lived close by in Mill Valley, got home and took the most painful shower imaginable. I had to pick out gravel imbedded in my elbow. All good now! One of my most painful memories. I still get nervous watching footage like this.
My gosh. I'm glad you are OK. I take this descent very cautiously and even avoid it on some foggy wet days.
My favorite ride. From Noe Valley, over Twin Peaks, through Golden Gate Park, down Arguello Blvd, through the Presidio, across GG Bridge, up Hawk Hill, down the sick descent, rolling hills, through the tunnel and back home. Nothing could be finer than to be a 49er in Cali!!!!!!!
dayum, how many miles is that?
7:48 your tires sound like a Boeing 757 spooling up for takeoff
How the hell do you know what the tires sound like when a Boeing 757 is about to take off?
lain11644 Pilot or cabin crew working on 757 would know
lain11644 he said your tires sound like a Boeing spooling up (referring to the jet engines) for takeoff. Not the tires of a Boeing. Anyone who rides a plane can hear the motors spool up for takeoff.
I know that sound! 😒 another gravel-grinder! #sojealous
🤦♂️
At first I thought it was a prerequisite to pump your contrast when shooting in California. Then I went there, it's truly unreal. Sick ride.
😂😂😂
Hahah it does look like that, but when I went to Cali, I was like omfg this is beautiful (wasn't riding there though). Almost always nice weather.
Theres always a little blue in the sky somewhere (:
Raj Gill except right now....😔
Come check it out in fire season.... drab grey everywhere and no chance of seeing the sun!
Take it easy the first time down this hill- I can remember at least two cyclists dying on it since 2000. It has some off camber turns and no room for mistakes- they went over the railing and down the cliff.
Yeah seems like a disc brakes rated adventure fo sho
I know someone who broke their leg/hip massively days before their wedding. oops canceled in hospital.. LOL
@@Liljoozy are there really any strong and "non-aero" arguments for keeping calipers instead of disc
@@youssefrochdi1994 just weight arguments
@@Fixie4life Not anymore!
You're in pretty great shape to climb that hill and be lightly panting for the view. Props
Pretty good? Like fantastic. He was talking through like the entire video pretty much as if he was just walking and talking. I was so impressed.
Used to live in SF, this was (and still is) my favorite descent. I come back to this video every once in a while to relive the magic, this is a great recording.
Barreling down the hill 30+ mph, cornering to avoid literal death, soaking in the most amazing views. Friends called me mad for goin down so fast but the thrill is really like no other.
That Turn at 12:30 with the dirt on the road scared me watching it!!
My jaw is dropped that he’s not even touching brakes!
Braking 700C on dirt is a bad idea Josh.
Im a newb, wondering why non disc brakes would not suffice? Thx
@@theprodigal7143 Braking on dirt is bad because you will slip. Discs or not
Terry's descent disciples!
Again, thanks for sharing your rides. They are immersive for me. Good job and I like your commentary.
This was one of my favorite climbs and descents when I lived in SF.
This is one of my favorite descents! It's well worth the grueling uphill climb.
If you have a CX or gravel bike, you can also take the offroad Coastal Trail at the traffic circle. It's just as fun.
Homie is going up hawk having a conversation. GD man, you make it look easy
then he descends at flippin mach 5 w nothing but a flannel
He won’t make a personal best at that pace though.
I rented an allez and rode up there a couple years back, absolutely gorgeous.
This is so lovely, thanks for giving us the view.
that descent always gets me lol. I can do 18%+ in other places, but that view triggers my mind of going over the rails everytime.
tallasianmike me too. I literally got stuck at the top of a Sierra Nevada mtn because I absolutely could not get out of my head
I'm a mountain biker so I'm used to it haha. Never thought about going over!
This bike has one of the most beautiful cockpit views, the colors are a sick combo
that view is jaw dropping beautiful.
It's official... I'm from Marin ( Novato) & I'm jealous of your "Epic" descent!!! Thanks for sharing :)
The noise of the city coming at you is great.
Subscribed. awesome videos. I live in the Sunset and love to see these Bay videos
Done that descent a bunch of times. Fun but scary. I’ve never ridden it without at least feathering the brakes.
Same. I think I've done 24mph tops lol
My heart pumpin as I watch this
Well, I've been trying to do this route the justice it deserves on my GoPro for a few years... Guess I can just throw it in the trash now. Amazing shooting and stabilizing that camera at that speed.
What a beautiful place!
Dropped down the hill more times than I can recall when I lived in SF. However, the title is misleading as that descent isn't actually in SF. ;)
I have touched 47 mph on that road, riding a pinarello dogma 65.1. love the road, one way traffic, just downhill.
That's all. Shit I've hit 73 on a descent in Colorado
love this one. def a disc brake adventure if you really want to get after it. one of the right handers always has some spooky gravel bits on the road, watch out for that one!
Rented a mega clunker "comfort deluxe" yesterday was like a 50 year old mountain bikey cruiser from the shop on the pier. Went across the bridge and started up the hill for the first view point then decided to just keep going. Eventually ended up at the top saw that 18% grade sign and this video flashed in my memory banks. Had to see it through. Was terrifying with the squeaky rim brakes haha. Beautiful though, ended up going down to the lighthouse. Knees are shot today...
Funniest part was all the roadies blowing past me. Stuck out like a sore thumb with my massive tourist day pack, dickies and dress shoes...
Great drop, epic weather.
Awesome descent! On my bucket list.
That first drop always feels scary to me, like a roller coaster. The water to your left makes it feel worse than it is, feels like you're going to drop off the edge of the world.. Things usually look slower on camera but I could tell you bombed down that hill.
Wow that was epic!. Stunning views. Just a little better than the North Antrim coast in Northern Ireland where I come from and have cycled a hundred times. 😁. Thanks for sharing 👍
"Bend these corners" Terry yer a G
I was there in 2013 with my parents. Such wonderful memories.
Edit: Lol I actually sat right in front of where you stopped at 06:06.
I drove to than scenic viewpoint before. The view from there was awe inspiring. I thought I saw the road continuing as a one-way but I wasn’t sure and headed back the way I came. Hopefully I’ll ride there someday soon, although I’ll probably be using the brakes a lot more than you 😊
Absolutely stunning! And scary AF!
WOW! I am freakin missing out. That's amazing!
These videos are fucking mad, absolute joy to watch.
This is the road you take to the Bonita Lighthouse. After crossing on left side of GGB take a left on Cozzleman and start your climb. At a certain point it becomes one way road; been that way for a long time
Wow,, thanks for sharing..
Please do more descent ride videos, new subscriber here! Ride safe as always!
Had to forward this video
Hooptie manualed that shit on his commuter whip. That's the real KOM segment there.
Loving these west coast videos Terry! Have you thought about going up to OR to link up with DKlein & OMTM?
wow nice spot! cheers from France 🤘
damn dude how fast were you going? some of the turns had dirt as well. you are crazy and the rush is rea!
Holy Fuck! Thats the perfect angle for a decent! Cheers, Terry!
LOVE this ride! Crashed at 8:13 recently! haha
The Vegetation and everything, its just Beautiful!
It looks unreal doesn't it!?
Just too cool in that flannel shirt.
Try the decent from Bonny Dune on hwy one just north of Santa Cruz. a great ride is up Empire grade from UCSC n up Smith grade to Bonny Dune
I love living in Nor Cal it truly is the most amazing place ever
Nope!
Full of drug addicts, homeless people, used needles, and out of touch libtards
copernicus vanstruselclit must suck to be that worried about other people.
@@DOLPsc hard not to when you trip over them walking down the sidewalk, and your children are at risk of being stabbed by HIV and Hep C infected used heroin needles... I lived in the Mission district. Ever seen purgatory? Try visiting the Safeway there at night LOL
From cyclists I've met LA, Paris, Vegas, etc - they're in unison, SF bay area is unmatched in terrain beauty and climate geography.
Would love to do that descent with some Rene Herse/Compass 38mm Barlow Pass tires. One day.
On one of my many climbs up and over, I ran into Robbin Williams. Had a great conversation when just before the last stretch he challenged me to a race to the top. As we rode side by side up to the starting point that he set, he starts rolling out some of the most hilarious one liners. Just when I was about ready to fall off my bike laughing he takes off. After chatting with him for a bit more at the top he went down the way we just came and I continued down the backside. While we were talking a heavy fog and light rain rolled in. I was descending fast as f&@k when the fog hit so thick I could barely see. Definitely didn’t see the suv that was crawling down at a snails pace, probably cause they couldn’t see either. Cut this short I locked up my brakes layer the bike down and watched my bike bounce off and over guard rail just before I was wrapped up against the wood guard rail post. Luckily my tarmac pro snagged a bush in its rear wheel and was just hanging halfway over the cliff face.
"ol Rene Herse was HOWLIN"!!!
Epic!⚡️
I live there, have ridden that descent many times and there's something about the camera, angle or noise which makes it look a lot faster on your video than it is in real life.
usually things look slower on camera. I think he's just faster than us :p
Hell yeah, plaid flannel shirts ftw
I just had a heart attack watching!!
I used to ride my bike this route all the time over the GG even as far as mt tam. Pt. Bonita it's called. great vid gut you really trust those skinny bicycle tires to go that fast? you're brave .
2:37 damn.. the view
Just curious, what was your top speed on that decent? Thanks, Dr. Les
Beautifull!😍
7:45 when you left the stove on
Hope you got to try out some of the dirt trails while you were out there in Marin Headlands. It's like a bicycle theme park out there.
Most definitely. Hope you saw the other videos.
@@TerryB Lol yeah right after this one.
Damn that’s beautiful
Beautiful day post covid
Take BART to Walnut Creek, ,and go climb Mt. Diablo. Do the North Gate Road downhill! Or any of the downhills there!!!
Damn clear day
Yeah it is soooo clear looking. This video looks amazing
I count four times where I would have biffed it on those downhill curves. Sick control, dude.
I think it would be more interesting if you put the details of your ride on screen.
It is nice to see how fast you were turning those corners. Some were really scary.
I imagine taking fixed gear to those mountains.
nice Color Edit
This little road looks lovely but have you met Spain serpentines yet?
What stem/bars are you rocking homie?? Your bike looks dope from that angle!
Decent descent that!
unless you're a dissenter
2:37 wowww
5:33 wooooooowwwww
Can you tell me exactly where this road is and how to get there? Amazing!
It's not actually in SF but if you cross over the golden gate bridge from sf into the marin headlands, it will be your first left
What kind of gearing do you run on this bike? Love the video
На спуске даже у меня ладошки вспотели. Славно прострелил.
hell yeah!
Have you done a ride through Sausalito yet?
What are you riding? How much flare on the handlebars? Lastly, what's on the headset cap? Looks interesting but can't make it out.
beautiful
damn i was hoping to see actual sf footy
Yuck, why?
Nice camera handling ;)
What kind of bars do you have.
Fucking hell that speed
Imagine doing this on a fixie
Its was intense
Nice ride, thanks! It's a shame we cannot see the actual speed in the descente.....🤨
Hey what bars you you running on your bike??
What gear combinations did you use on the ascent?
Crazy
Whats your bike how where i could buy one like yours
That view at the rest stop before the descent would be perfect with a joint or two and just before you head back down
How fast were you going on the descent?
Pls make video about your bike, i want to build my own freewheel single speed soon
Thats not a single speed
can it be done easily non scary way with braking?? i'm super newbie!
