I adopted a senior cat who'd been brought into a shelter as a stray. I have never known a more affectionate and loving cat. We only had him for two years before he passed, but we provided so much love for eachother during that time. Miss him every day ♡
That is an awesome commitment! I was born into a family with a senior cat (he was 8-11 years older than me, I think), and I also miss him every day. He passed some months after turning 21. I'd love to adopt one day, never buy! I do want to provide a home to the cat that needs it most, and that includes senior cats. Do you have any tips for adopting a senior kitty? Is it a good idea to get a senior as a first-time owner? Please share your experience and expertise =)
@@thedolphinqueen9921 , with a senior cat, if the shelter did the neuter, that is a red flag. I had thousands of dollars in urinary tract problem cost, come, because they had neutered an adult cat, and not done it right (maybe expecting he was not adoptable, using the surgery as training, for a new doctor or something. ) . We had him over a decade, so he had a good life: but his getting 'stopped-up' every other year was ... not convenient. I think he was full grown, and less than 3 when we adopted, so not 'senior'.
I’m an accidental cat mom...I found my kitten meowing in a trash can while coming back from work. I just picked her up on a reflex & brought her home. No preparation & absolutely no idea...I didn’t even know I was a cat person. I’ve grown up with dogs. 6 years down the line I can’t believe I’ve never had a kitty before. Now I’m rescuing kitties & being a rather tiresome kitty advocate, much to the amusement of my friends.
Oh same. Grew up with dogs, don't dislike cats but not about to get one. Then a stray that had been abandoned literally walked into my house with me and I'm in love
That's kind of how we got a kitten when I was a kid! A stray had her in our garden and left her. She lived to be almost 16 years old, she was quirky but we loved her.
Easy to say, but this isn't allowed during quarantine. You have to choose from profiles at most, if not all, shelters right now. Also, a cat acts much different at home than they do at a shelter. Some cats are very shy at first, but become very loving once they trust you.
i got my cat because i was fostering and they didn’t let me choose who to foster. she’s wonderful but i didn’t even meet her until i was bringing her home!
Jackson reinforces the truth about being prepared financially. I have seen many situations where yes, food, water, litter is afforded..but when a medical issue comes up..no $$$, either because no pet insurance is financially doable, or no extra $$$ set aside under that mattress. Lives have been lost. At least be able to take your pets for an annual exam every year. Oh, and be able to get flea/tick meds too. I can't afford a kitty properly because of this vital requirement. Until I can, no adoption. I am glad Jackson addressed this right out of the gate.
You are absolutely right. My last cat needed treatment for a year, worth .ca 3300 EUR/3000GBP/4000USD. I am going to adopt two brothers next, their insurance will cost me .ca 68 USD a month, for about 13-18 years. It is a big commitment.
Thank you for being so responsible. I did an internship at a vet once and a family came in with a cat that had run away and gotten her leg stuck in a fence. It was really bad. They had to choose between amputation and euthanasia. The cost for the amputation was pretty high, somewhere between 1000€ and 2000€ I think. The dad felt they should put the cat down, that the cost was too high and it wasn't worth it to have a disabled cat. But the child and mother were heartbroken and crying. Luckily this story had a happy ending and they agreed to the amputation with a payment plan over 12 months, but this really gave me a reality check. If that had been my cat, I would've had to put her down. Costs can always come up, unexpectedly and in large amounts, so again, thank you for being so responsible
I adopted a 3 year cat 3 months ago. She’s former hoarder cat and hid for 2 months. Now she’s finally coming out and is currently sleeping next to me on the couch. She’s becoming a total love bug
I adopted a 2-year hoarder cat a few months ago as well. She stopped hiding pretty quick just because she LOVES my other cat. They decided they were going to meet two days after I brought her home, and become best friends. It was really weird. They just started yelling at the door from either side, I opened it, they sniffed each other and were best buds. Midna still isn't sure about us humans, but Navi was worth coming out for.
I adopted a 5 year old hoarder cat 3 years ago. She was so anxious and malnourished when we got her. Her old home abused her (one thing they did was pull her nails out of her paws) and other cats. She is now healthy and happy in her new home. She still has anxiety around new people and gets scared and hides when she hears loud noises.
I just adopted a cat that came from a hoarder home and it’s been a week so far she seems to trust me slightly but still hides. Good to know it takes time it’s my first cat
Stephanie S once she’s a little more comfortable, try using a wand toy. It’s helped it’s my cat a lot. She’s super anxious in large open spaces like the kitchen and runs when I’m in room. I’ve been trying to lead her into rooms with a wand and it’s slowly helping. That and lots of treats.
I will be picking up 2 young adult cats from the same hoarder home on Saturday...the shelter I'm getting them from is really cooperating with me...this Friday, the cat I have had for a little over a year was a stray and, amazingly, his first family has been located after losing him when they moved 4 years ago...they got him as a kitten 11 years ago...so this weekend will be one of much activity and emotion...but I am thrilled for the family and their big boy who has climbed into my heart...and for myself and my 2 new lovies Manny and Tovah. I just chose their new names yesterday💜💜🌴
7 years ago next week, I adopted my little Jinx, her adoption fee was my 30th birthday present from my mother. She meowed the entire 45 min trip home, and I meowed right back. 2 hours after we got home, I put her in the living room so she could find all the hiding places, but she found me upstiars in my study and climbed into my lap and just fell ast asleep.
That is too cute 😍 i just adopted my first cat 4 months ago and he is the sweetest. Loves to run around and play and he comes up to my bed in the mornings to stand next to my head while he's waiting for breakfast. I love seeing Jet's little green eyes looking down at me first thing in the morning lol 💚
awww, you are making me want another one so bad. My two got sick this summer and I had to let them go, both at the age of 13, and I miss exactly what you are having right now!
We have so many indoor plants and I can see little cat tooth marks in some of them (none have been eaten yet, only tasted). It would really be interesting to hear his opinion on plants and cats.
@@Lol-tr6cu Try and find out why your parents don't want a cat, and show them ways you can work around or solve the problem. For example, my parents didn't want a cat because they didn't want to look after it, so I did a bunch of research and they agreed I could look after it on my own :)
Consider adopting a senior cat, we rescued a 6 year old she had been in the shelter for near a year! She made the best companion, gentle and never scratched, always purred. She lived with us until she was 20 years old 😻
Its ok. The internet is a marvelous tool to learn! I wish I had a Cat Daddy when I first got my two. Everthing Jackson sayscos pretty much gold. Everything he says comes from the right place. I can tell you one thing - its worth it! And you and your new best friend will learn together. ♡♡♡♡ best of luck. ♡♡♡♡
Knowing the cat's personality is so important. As senior citizens, we knew that a small kitten wasn't for us. Been there done that. We adopted a cat about 10 months old who the caretakers said had a mild and mellow personality. She had her playful moments, but wasn't insane like an extremely young kitten. It's been a good match now for 7 years.
That happened to me. I stalked my local shelter's website for weeks and I fell in love with a small long hair grey kitten. I went to meet him and to put it simply, he and I just were not connecting. However, his sister in the corner of the same cage attached to me immediately. Needless to say, she definitely chose me.

I lost my cat Gingerbread at 21 years old in September. Hiv positive too. We adopted 2 more couldn't stand the house without her. They are 1 and 1 1/2 years old and are the greatest for a healing heart. Love them!!
Your cat had HIV? Brutal!!! I'm so sorry for your loss!!! I'm happy for your gain of 2 more bundles of furry joy, though. It's a circle, right? Good/bad, happy/sad.... I hope you all have an amazing life together!
We had a cat die last year. We brought home a homeless kitty. She had never been to a vet. She had never gotten the attention before that we have her. She died knowing she was loved. Now I need a cat. It's strange not having a cat sitting on my lap. We're taking our time selecting one.
@@r0bw00d We had the vet guess at her age. The vet said she was probably middle aged. We had her for just over a year. Living badly is hard on an animal. Her teeth were broken. She was deaf. She knew we cared. I came home and discovered her on the floor. She lost her ability to walk. We called the vet. We searched for answers. She had an incurable illness that kills in days. We did our best to make her comfortable. Two days later she died.
@The Snowflake Twins We rescued another one from the streets. She was just a kitten. She's close to year now. The vet called her a teenager. We also adopted a boy cat from the SPCA. He was fixed. They are in love. I really need her fixed asap. Mating cats are annoyingly loud.😆
i adopted a 2 year old cat who came from an abusive household - they threw him and his siblings out of their moving van in a bag to get rid of him. :/ he used to hide and be afraid of open spaces but 3 years later with him, and he's so comfortable in my home and cuddles up with me and always keeps me company. hes the best thing thats happened to me 🥺🥺🥺
Many years ago, when I was home and depressed, without a job and 24/7 sleeping and watching TV I learned about Cat Mojo with the Cat Daddy himself on the tv. I learned that even when I had always liked a cat I was not ready. Less than a month ago I adopted my first cat Megan. She is about 2 months and even though she is not as Old as I would've preferred she has been the best addition to mine and my service dog's life style. No regrets
My mom gave me my cat when I was in your position over 4 years ago, not taking care of myself because I just wanted to sleep from the severe depression I was in. She knew even if I couldn't care for myself I would care for someone else. He died of acute kidney failure this year and I am more lonely now than I was before he came in my life. Someday I will be ready to welcome a new family member but I know where you are coming from.
I just adopted my 7th cat lol. We named his Jack Jack. I tried adopting a kitten off a “Facebook Rescue”. SMDH. Never again. I’ve fostered dozens of animals and this woman angered me. She lied about everything. He was sick off his ass. Bloody stools. Malnourished. Cold body temps. Lethargic. Low blood sugars. I tried and tried to save him, and spent hundreds on him at the vet, But he died in my arms a few hrs later gasping for air. I recommend 100% going to a shelter. I found a beautiful male Snowshoe Siamese, 17 weeks old, Fully vetted. Microchipped, neutered, dewormed, flea meds etc. for like $25. He’s a little love bug and completes our large cat family circle of crazies. 🎉💋
Mel Phillips Ahh that’s so sad, I’m sorry that you had to go through that :( It’s really kind and good of you to try and save him tho. You’re a great person because of that!!
But it'll die soon and medical bills would be way to high to rationalize. If your cats die every 3-7 years it really does rack up compared to a kitten.
I would but I can't justify spending $$$ to do it. If shelters weren't so greedy they'd adopt out a lot more animals. When I was a kid you went to the pound, picked a cat or a dog, paid $10 for the license and went home with your new pet.
I’m about to adopt my first solo cat as an adult. He’s a sweet 5 yo boy from the shelter! He’s sadly FIV+ and has been at the shelter the longest so I can’t wait to give him a forever home. Spending my week preparing and getting my house ready. Never been so anxious yet excited!! Thanks for the tips!
Be 110% you are not allergic to the cat. Each is different, I can be around 100 o them, but once in a while certain cats trigger bad allergies. If you are allergic, get a short hair, because when the summer kicks in the long hair type sheds way too much, which on me gives me slight allergies in the summer only.
Sitting with my kitten that I adopted 3 weeks ago! Will still tune in for some advice. So far so good luckily! Mr. Mistoffelees is already so deep in my heart kitty can do no wrong. Got him at 11 weeks after he had been abused and neglected.
I adopted a 1 year-old cat last week, and it's definitely been an adjustment for both of us! I've been a dog person for most of my life, but couldn't justify keeping a dog in my small apartment. There's definitely been some growing pains, but I'm glad I found this channel today!
me and my partner adopted 2 FIV+ cats from the shelter. The second one arrived 1 week ago and we are following the introducing method. These animals have the same right to have a happy home as any other animal. And I can confirm, these guys are so much fun and very happy boys
I adopted a 4 year old calico female. I named her Sunshine Jellybean because I love both lol. She is a perfect fit . She loves to cuddle but on her own time. Doesn’t like to be held but she is on my lap and kissing me and I feel like she’s telling me she is so grateful for coming to my home. I love her soooo much.
UPDATE: decided to adopt them. Will be picking them up tomorrow! Met two 8 month old kittens yesterday going as a pair for adoption at their foster parents house. They've had a bit of a rough start. I'm now digging into research and letting the feeling settle to know if I'm ready to adopt them. Thanks for your videos Jackson! I'm a big cat person so this feels right but at the same time I want to make sure I'm ready
I completely agree with you. I adopted a 10.5 year old domestic cat about 2 months ago. I couldn't have asked for a better companion. From the moment I met him in the shelter he immediately jumped on my lap and made himself comfortable. I took him right home and within four hours he was strutting around like my apartment was his. I love this guy so much!
We didn’t adopt our cat, he adopted us. He singled us out and when I went home I knew I had to take him home the next day. I cannot imagine my life without him now.
I adopted in April. My cat was a timid stray (technically feral) who was found when she was about 5 months old and spent the first week hiding in my front closet. Three months later, and she's a total love bug now. She spends about half the work day curling up with me on the couch, sleeps in the bed with me, loves to socially eat and watch Dark Shadows with me (lol), etc. She's timid by nature, and has always hid when a family member comes to visit, but everyday I am so proud of how far she has come ^_^
I have just adopted 2 kittens. 1 was found on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere and the other was found abandoned covered in mud on deaths door. They are 6 &10 weeks old. They love each other so much and I just cant imagine my life without them. They had such a terrible start to their lives i am making it my life’s goal to give them the love they deserve. They will never experience despair ever again.
Recently adopted my kitty, saw a picture of her online and knew she was mine. I was willing to do anything I had to for her because in my heart I knew she was mine. When she saw me she loved me just as well. She’s a sweet black cat that loves snuggling
One thing I plan on doing before adopting, and it's something I haven't seen mentioned anywhere, is finding out what food and litter the shelter uses. That way I can get that type along with the type I plan on using, so I can switch them gradually.
About cat energy: I adopted my cat 11 years ago from a friend's house/farm. They had a litter of 5, three of which were females. I wasn't allowed a male (don't ask me, idk either) so I had to pick one of the three girls. They all had very different energy. One of them was really scared and hiding the entire time, one was super sweet and cuddly, she wanted to be picked up and was purring in my sister's lab through the entire process. My family urged me to pick that one. But I didn't. I didn't care because I had already decided. When we first arrived, the third little girl was drinking some milk with her brother and she dipped her paw in and shook it so her brother got all wet. She spent the entire time running around like crazy, jumping on things and the only attention she gave us was scratching at our legs. I immediately fell in love and took her home, with my family a bit disappointed. She was high energy for about 7 years, hunting, jumping at people, always up on the table. Now she's more relaxed and let's everyone pet her. I have no regrets, I love that cat to death.
I'm adopting a 7 year old shy little lady who's never lived along side humans before. I'm not expecting any miracles here, but if I'll be able to give her a little scratch behind her ear at some point in the future I'll be absolutely thrilled. I'm mostly hoping that I'll be able to provide her with a safe home for the rest of her life :) And in return I'll get some company in my flat as I live my little life.
When we adopt ...we save them. When we save them....they change us for better and for good. We develop ourselves and together. 💜🐈🏠🐶 JG you are absolutely great! My heart is with your projects!😺
We are bringing in two kittens in a couple of weeks. Our last cat passed away at 1.5 years old from an unknown respiratory illness. It was terrible to watch her suffer. She passed on her own terms, which I was very glad for because she melted into a nervous puddle when she went to the vet. We are hoping we can provide a home to these kittens for a very long time to come, and I am refreshing my mind on how to introduce new cats to their forever home. Very excited for our new arrivals.
My boy Fredward sorta hitched a ride on my dad's friends truck all the way from Florida, to North Central Iowa, and conveniently escaped out the window onto my dad's acreage property just a couple weeks before I came to visit. And he just kept rubbing up against me and sitting with me when I was outside and I'm like.... Awww...! He thinks I am his friend....!! So I had a week or two to think it over and im like, "welp! This is life now!" And so he hitched a ride with me all the way from Iowa to Colorado! It was a looooong time adjustment, he was very used to being a friendly outdoor cat, and he still really misses outside, but jacksons videos were REALLY a life saver!! For the first few months I had him he would NOT LET ME SLEEP!!! I was almost considering rehoming him, but jacksons videos really gave me some great insight on how to meet my boy half way! So now he has a cat tree by the window, and giving him a specific space to look out the windows around the house was a big help, so he can watch them birds!! He's got interactive toys that can tire him out (that feather wand is INCREDIBLE) also when I got him he was SO FLIPPIN FAT HE WAS LIKE 19 POUNDS I KID YOU NOT!!!! But now I'm feeding him wet food twice a day and he's like 16 or 17 pounds now with regular play, and hopefully still going down with regular play. Still trying to get him comfortable in a harness and a backpack because he loves outside so much. It's been a huge journey but he can give me high fives now! 😃 Hopefully progress will continue! And I'm considering getting him a friend in the future to help keep him company.
I met a kitten on Saturday and thought I was sold, then met another on Sunday and he immediately began purring for me and rubbed on my arm and basically adopted me. He wasn’t my first choice (the adoption page listed him as female too) but as soon as I met him I knew he was the one. I spent an hour with the first kitten, trying to get to know her, and only ten minutes before I made my decision with my boy now. Best decision I ever made, and my first kitten!
Thank you. I’m taking this video as a sign. It’s time to adopt. Ordering stuff to set up a base camp now and will be calling a rescue by the end of next week! Done over thinking it.
We foster cats so that they don’t have to go into shelters and I’ve often given the new furrparents some of your tips and refer them to your channel for other stuff. Your channel is great! Our current foster found a hidey hole that I hadn’t picked up while closing unders and it took me three weeks before she’d come out. She now comes to me when I call her (or hears my voice). She struggles with my boyfriend though (his really tall, and has a deep booming voice), but we usually use our fosters’ comfort around him as signal that they’re ready to be adopted.
so helpful! thinking about adopting a cat from someone i know, definitely really good considerations. i’m a little scared because it’s a big responsibility, but these videos break down the requirements and help me understand whether i can handle this or not. thank you! 😸
Do it and never look back. He/she will bring joy into your life. I did it one month ago. It toke a couple of weeks to get used to the routine. I was crossing a long period of solitude and depression. Today I walk with a smile on my face and my social life had serious improvements. I will clean millions of litterboxes in excange of her beautiful eyes watching me when I wake up in the morning. Responsibility will come natural if you really want to adopt a little fluffy. Just DO IT ❤️
I adopted my precious kitty 5 months ago now, and although the beginning was challenging for both of us, now we are very happy and loving little family ❤️
Adopting a kitten is a first time for me. I've never been a furparent before and I don't specifically love cats. But when I rescued a kitten, I started to love them. These tips are very helpful for me being new to this kind of commitment! Thank you so much! ❤️
We adopted my grandmother’s cat when she died a couple years ago. It was already 18 at the time and was very scared of kids, which I just happened to classify as. He died a couple of months later, if not weeks if I remember correctly, but in those days, he was the most affectionate and lovable old baby I ever could have wanted.
my 3rd adopted cat came home 4 days ago....we are making progress over here. :) told the shelter to show me the most difficult cats they had, regardless of age, gender, coloring or race. my only rule was that the new family member must be on similar wave length as my 2nd adopted cat, who is a very shy girl and a perfect scardy cat. my 1st adopted cat and love of my life, was 10 when we met, one kidney and chronic cough. the finance thing is spot on though. I took out a loan to cover all of her medical cost when she had cancer. my beautiful cat is gone for 3 years now but the loan I still pay off. I have no regrets at all and would do it again in a heart beat. yet the money aspect is definitely deadly important. yet in the end of the day we have had 6 beautiful years together, which is priceless to me, because she is one the best thing I have ever done! I miss her every day. :)
I’m in the UK. We have a 9yo cat, rescued as a kitten (8 months). Totally agree with point one: GET INSURANCE! Luckily we did and at around 5yo he was diagnosed with a heart murmur. It costs a lot and (predictably) our premiums went up as a result but the insurance pays 80% of our costs. If we didn’t have insurance we would have still looked after him; he’s our little boy, but we are thankful for it every time he goes to the vet. 😻 Like Jackson, I don’t want to discourage anyone from adopting; it’s a beautiful feeling knowing you have helped an animal in need, but be realistic about your finances and be prepared.
Fostering a 3-y.o. mother (who's blind!) and her 11-month old daughter and we've become such a content family in my lonely quarantine I can't possibly imagine giving them up. The daughter is very kitten-ish still with lots of rambunctious energy, including ambushing & wrestling with her mom! I'm so glad I have them, and they have me, and also each other. Best quarantine decision I've made.
Absolutely true! I have adopted a pet from a shelter and the feeling of giving them a new home is priceless. I am now adopting a kitten and can't wait to bond with my new fur-ball friend. :)
Good summary. I recently processed a study and what was striking me is the health insurance part. As you well mentioned, you literally can insure everything with the right plan. What i found is that most breed specific diseases are excluded from the general policy provided. I would recommend to everyone adopting a cat doing also the research on these breed specific diseases and think about including it in the policy (or as you mentioned, stuck the money into the pillow to get prepared). 🙂
On Monday I’m adopting a stray cat so excited she never goes inside even at night I’ve seen her before and she is really nice and friendly I can’t wait
I adopted a new cat from a rescue back in March for a buddy for my other young cat I rescued last fall. Your videos helped A TON! Especially on how to properly introduce them. It was hard to be patient but they’re so happy and playful now. Best thing I’ve done all year.
We adopt all our pets. Rescues are the bees knees for sure. Yes, I get the gravy train. I met my first kitty girl when I was 22 and she was 10. She was living as a stray with no claws! How scary for her to be out there with no defenses. She was black with filth and when I took to cleaning her, she was a beautiful white Persian. I don't know how long she was living outside but we had 12 beautiful years and she was definitely the key to unlocking my heart! She slept on my pillow every night and would bring me gifts. Normally insects she had killed during the day. Thank you for helping save these beautiful, loving creatures!!
I adopted my cat Azriel about four months ago. He'd been at the shelter for 2+ years due to a (possibly false) FeLV+ diagnosis. It's been a learning curve for me but after blocking the unders, he's grown into his mojo. Azriel might always be that shy wallflower but he's made leaps and bounds, partly thanks to the things I've learned from you, Jackson. So a million, billion thanks to you ❤🙏
Before this year i never dreamt of getting a cat, I have always been a dog person and I never had cats as a kid. Then early this year I see a struggling Kitten crossing the road, eyes crusty and shut, big dogs roaming and she could barely walk unfortunatley her mum not in sight.. So we took her back and my youtube relationship with Jackson Galaxy started. I regret to inform Muddy didnt make it and after 1 week she passed away, but she left a peice of her with me always.. Since then and 6 months on, We have rescued 3 more kittens abandoned by their mother (alot of stray cats where i live). We now have 3 bundles of joy and energy along with my dog and I couldnt be happier and if not for the help of Jackson the whole thing would of been so hard. Thank you for my 3 happy kittys and happy dog Jackson.
I'm taking in a FeLV positive stray from my friend since he already has cats and cant keep her. Been binging these videos to make sure I've got everything and I'm prepared. Love the content.
My wife and I adopted our Creamsicle (you guessed it - orange tabby) just over two years ago. He was in a shelter, and he DEFINITELY chose us to be his mommy and daddy. He was just about 8 months old at the time. He adjusted well (meaning we adjusted well). He's just about three years old now. The shelter told us that he had been abandoned in a city park, and someone brought him into the shelter. He had been there just a couple of weeks when he chose us. We love this boy to death - and believe it or not - he loves us just as much. He's turned into a fantastic kitty!!!
I'm looking into getting a cat, I've never had one before. The biggest concern is with my dog. She's about the size of a bigger cat so she is small. But she has a very strong prey drive (Have to tie her up to go outside so she doesn't bring in more dead rabbits and for her own safety since she can escape from the backyard now) Even if I find a cat that is okay with dogs, mine is pretty energetic and might chase the cat. I love my dog and I know I can't get a cat if she hates them, that isn't fair to her or the cat. Do some shelters let you bring the dog in on a leash or something? I can easily hold onto her or pick her up if she so much as growls. I want it to be as safe as possible for the cat. My dog is staying with me for as long as she's alive obviously. My dog is also not interested in the snake, she sniffed the snake and walked away. Update: I have a cat now. His name is Suga, after Sugawara from Haikyuu. He’s still not used to the noise of the dog when she runs past the door. Didn’t think I would get a cat so soon but he’s honestly fitting in really well :) currently he’s trying to decide between running around on the floor and grooming himself. (He’s only been here for 4 days! Already he’s starting to play some. He’s starting to eat a little bit more as well, more than just a few bites! He loooves to snuggle and be pet)
We (me and my roommate) didn't adopt a cat but we rescued a cat: a week ago we found a deaf, disoriented cat in the woods (on the active train tracks!), and we took him home. We hung the posters around, and the owner was found but she said that she was looking for a new home for him anyway as she was moving out soon, and the cat can stay with us. So now we have a cat! He is a white british shorthair (he has an actual pedigree) and today (21.06) is his 6th birthday! Last week I took him to the vet for check up and FIV/FELV tests (they came out negative!) and next week we're gonna go for vaccinations. Crazy how fate works, but now Szynka is at our place and we're looking forward for many more years with him (and maybe another cat so he doesn't feel alone when we're at work, but that's future plans :')). Thank you Jackson! Most of my cat knowledge comes from your shows, videos and books, you are a wonderful person, Szynka sends you purrs :)
lost my sweet boy to kidney failure a couple months ago, and he was only 5. he was everything to me but now thinking about giving TWO!! new kittens a home makes me so happy
I adopted a bengal that was 12 weeks old. He never had any health problems and had as much energy as a normal kitten, even when he was 14. It was just crazy to me that he never had any health problems. He passed away one night and that was it.
I was so excited to adopt my first baby Polly she was 3 years and still is the best cat I’ve ever met she purred and sat on us she choose us. Then we recently adopted a kitten she is now a year old ❤️
Today I got the adoption of this adorable Bengal from my local shelter and I'm so excited! I've already done research and will continue to read up and prepare until I'm picking her up in two weeks!
I adopted my cat in March right when the quarantine started. I can tell you I can’t imagine my life without him and I’m so happy that I was able to spend this stressful time next to a loving cat, and having extra time to really know my cat and getting a routine with him! Thank you Jackson for the tips !
Man thank you for all the great tips... I didnt really think I would be able to adopt a cat, but my gf did it and Im loving them both so much right now... What a joy to have a cat in your life ♥
3 days ago since my Simba died from a tumor and heavy disease I was devastated. I searched for his pictures and heard a cry across my window, I went out on the street and saw baby kitty girl crying for help. Of course, I had to call her Nala, and today we made our first vetenarian visit ♥ No joke, this really happened. I even gave her back to neighbours and they asked me to take care of her, to that I couldn't say no.
I just recently adopted a 9 month old cat yesterday and it was pretty out of the blue despite cautioning my dad against it. Absolute sweetheart even despite still adjusting to the new home. Hasn't shown too much of a rambunctious kitten side yet but that may appear once he's more comfortable. As you can imagine that with the out of the blue choice, he's hiding under dad's bed lol. Though he's coming out slowly and is quite comfortable with me especially. I gotta get pet insurance still and finish catifying the place but I did make sure to get the basics that I could get
Our little Neo was one year old when we got him. He had never been to the vet before nor had he had a good home. Now he is so happy with his little girlfriend Trinity. They share absolutely everything. Beds, toys, food, litter boxes. Everything. And they would rather play together than play with a toy with us. We are so happy together and we se ourself as a family of four. Mom, dad, Neo and Trinity. And by the way. 2020 has beed the best year for us just because we've been together so much. Happy new year to every one from Norway.
My 1st cat, Autumn, I took in straight from the street along with her brother (who is now my sister's cat). My 2nd cat, Lilac, I adopted from this town's cégep(college), in which the Animal Health Technology course has a SPA rescue animal rehoming program. I haven't had either of them very long, Autumn was around 2 months old when I took her in last September and I adopted Lilac in March after lockdown started, she's turning 3 this year. They get along very well and I absolutely love my rescues
Adopted a little shy cat a month into quarantine. I’m still home but he has been so good. I’m just really proud of him. He has learned to play and he now loves being petted. I didn’t even know cat came this small in size, but the vet say he is perfect.

I adopted a kitten 2 months ago, shes 5 now! I know this is weird but I already feel like I'm very scared of losing her! It definitely feels like having my own baby
The gratitude is real!!! I recently adopted a stray black cat by accident. Long story short, I confused my boy Socrates with my new girl Kuro, she cute so I ended up keeping her. She is a super nervous nine month old kitten, she loves Socrates and wishes to befriend Moka, but Moka is a tough cookie to chew. Kuro usually doesn't like to be held but when I lay down to slowy touch her chin, she will melt into a cuddle monster!!
I dont like dogs much but my neighbor was keeping his dog in a rabbit cage so he couldn't poop on the floor i took that dog from him as soon as i saw that i told him give him to me, he only had the dog for about 3 months, even though they arent my favorite and he lived with me for about 6 months until i found someone that would give him the love he needed.
My adopted senior cat is everything I ever hoped for in a pet. I thought it might be silly to pay for pet insurance and then I spent more on her first vet visit (suspected ring worm but turned out negative thank god) than I spend on my own medical visits and was converted! She is such an easygoing cat, someone must’ve trained her before, and I can’t figure out a reason she would have been surrendered except she has some dental issues and I guess the expense must’ve been it.
One of my only issues with adoption is the fact it took almost a MONTH for me to even hear back from my shelters. I could have easily gone on craigslist to grab a kitten from a random stranger but I wanted to do my ethical duty to adopt. The process just makes it so difficult and long.
Thinking about adopting a kitten mostly because of my 5yo brother, I think it is gonna help him to have a sense of responsibility and have someone who can match his energy as well. I also love animals, especially dogs and cats too and maybe it will have a nice impact in my mentla health too. Thanks for the informative video.
I just adopted my second cat and your introduction tips helped the process go so smoothly. Five days in and resident girl is already grooming the new guy. Some of my coworkers teased me for being so involved in the process, but you can’t argue with results. Thanks Jackson! (And I would definitely recommend adopting older cats; they’re so fun and full of personality!)
We adopted a sweet energetic puppy in 2010 and he has been great! We rescued a black kitten a few weeks ago and he is doing awesome. They get along well and we are enjoying them.
my oldest cat never had an issue on going to the balcony on his own for awhile for a quick fresh air walk. Otherwise he's quite happy being indoors. The balcony is catproofed with catnet
Where do you find catnet? I have used a garden "criss-cross" trellis that covering the lower part of my vertical posted metal bar deck railing. It worked just fine. Until the apartment manager spied it and charged me $50.00 bucks. I can't afford this and my kitties love the fresh air and sunshine so much! Please let me know where I can find catnet?
@@marytischler4258 They should have cat nets available in Pet stores if im not mistaken 🤔 I do use the brand from Trixie of the colour green. So far so good, you should also probably measure your balcony how big it is since they have different measured cat nets. I'm sorry that your flat manager charged you 50$ for that. 😕
I found Ollie at a shelter last August- 2 weeks after I moved out of my parents’ house and got my own place. Oscar, he found me. Friends found him on the side of the road in December as a 5-month old kitten who was only 3.3lbs and I took him in. We just moved recently as well. They’ve added so much joy to my life ❤️
I adopted a cat named Piper only a week ago that is 2-3 years old and she’s so loving and playful but was shy, a tip from me is: learn the cats attributes, if they’re shy than a small room where they can’t run under things and just sit with them, let them come to you
I just adopted a kitten from a shelter and I have been binging your videos. They are a godsend! 🙏🏻 I want to make sure I provide the best life for her as possible. I should’ve done all of this before hand, but thankfully prime packages are arriving quickly!
I just met my cat yesterday. She was so cute and very gentle. I cannot wait to bring her home when I am able to do so. Thank you for providing a very informative video. I might have already known a lot of this but I understand there are many who would be seeking the answers and here they are!

Awwww that made me cry 😢 At least he had so much love & happiness at the end of his life ♥️
@@thedolphinqueen9921 , with a senior cat, if the shelter did the neuter, that is a red flag.
@@JenniferA.Minnear-Salaza-jb4qf Thank you! That is very weird... I guess some shelters can do odd things to their cats 😶
The homeless cats are the ones that appreciate so much when they are finally given a secure and loving home. You did awesome helping him. 😍😻
Haha, that's beautiful news, thank you for taking your time to share your story with us 😌💖💖💖💖

Кенжетайұлы me? I am really sorry...I don’t have any. I don’t even have Facebook lol. Too stressful for me :(
Here is the ultimate adoption tip: let the cat adopt you. Do not choose, be the choosen one.
Absolutely...I love both kittens & cats. Persians are probably my favorite breed🧸🐈👏🏼
This happened with my cat when he was a kitten, he stayed at my side the entire time and I just-there was no way I was leaving without him.
@@marsh1912 same with our sweet Goldie! We would not bring her back and chose adoption instead! She is so awesome and a really good kitty💖💖💖😸😁
My dog medical bill came to thousand dollar 😱
That whàt vet said but cant afford too expensive 😱
That is too cute 😍
i just adopted my first cat 4 months ago and he is the sweetest. Loves to run around and play and he comes up to my bed in the mornings to stand next to my head while he's waiting for breakfast. I love seeing Jet's little green eyes looking down at me first thing in the morning lol 💚
😻😻😻😻
Just adopted a cat two days ago. I’m watching this with her purring and laying on my arm
awww, you are making me want another one so bad. My two got sick this summer and I had to let them go, both at the age of 13, and I miss exactly what you are having right now!
Find out if any of your current house plants are toxic! Cats like to eat plants, including dried herbs on a spice rack.
I’d like to hear his opinion on these- i’ve seen infographics but with no sources so a video on this would be much appreciated!
Well, jokes on you. I don't have plants. 😂😂
Cala lillys are a big one :(
I have 20 house plants in my apartment ahhhhhh
We have so many indoor plants and I can see little cat tooth marks in some of them (none have been eaten yet, only tasted). It would really be interesting to hear his opinion on plants and cats.
I want a cat so bad 😭
Maybe you can apply to foster a cat? And maybe you can adopt 'him', if everything seems good.
Get one!

She lived with us until she was 20 years old 😻
I wish I knew what he's going to say before haha I adopted not knowing anything about cats. Still I regret nothing, though
Same🤣 3 months in and still cant believe how uneducated I was. Now I spend hours researching about cats every week
Knowing the cat's personality is so important. As senior citizens, we knew that a small kitten wasn't for us. Been there
done that. We adopted a cat about 10 months old who the caretakers said had a mild and mellow personality.
She had her playful moments, but wasn't insane like an extremely young kitten. It's been a good match now for
7 years.

You must have given a lot of care, to keep an HIV positive cat alive so long!
I totally get it💜☺
FIV not HIV. I have HIV which human. F is for feline. They catch it from bites etc
I meant FIV.
We had a cat die last year. We brought home a homeless kitty. She had never been to a vet. She had never gotten the attention before that we have her. She died knowing she was loved. Now I need a cat. It's strange not having a cat sitting on my lap. We're taking our time selecting one.
How long did she live for?
:/ he used to hide and be afraid of open spaces but 3 years later with him, and he's so comfortable in my home and cuddles up with me and always keeps me company. hes the best thing thats happened to me 🥺🥺🥺
How long did it take for him to stop hiding and be comfortable ?
Awww 🥰 that so nice of u to adopt. Him or her
Lucky I barely see any cats in my neighborhood and the only one i saw was dead
Too late. I already adopted and I couldn’t be more happy 😊
• Çløvër • my new kitten is the same exact age!! And she was also born April 17!
I adopted one too and he was born on april 27th. Here's to many many years of cuddles and happy times
I’m so sorry that happened to you 😔
so sorry for your loss 💕
Mel Phillips Ahh that’s so sad, I’m sorry that you had to go through that :( It’s really kind and good of you to try and save him tho. You’re a great person because of that!!
That sounds like an abusive and neglectful situation with that Facebook “rescue”... that’s infuriating. Maybe report them?
I love senior kitties 😻 please adopt older cats from shelters. My Molly is 12 years old, and she is perfect.
Is the medical expenses high right off bat when you adopt seniors?
What about adoption sites
But it'll die soon and medical bills would be way to high to rationalize. If your cats die every 3-7 years it really does rack up compared to a kitten.
@@bredonheh4473 aren't you a ray of sunshine
I would but I can't justify spending $$$ to do it. If shelters weren't so greedy they'd adopt out a lot more animals. When I was a kid you went to the pound, picked a cat or a dog, paid $10 for the license and went home with your new pet.
I’m about to adopt my first solo cat as an adult. He’s a sweet 5 yo boy from the shelter! He’s sadly FIV+ and has been at the shelter the longest so I can’t wait to give him a forever home. Spending my week preparing and getting my house ready. Never been so anxious yet excited!! Thanks for the tips!
I’m picking up my adoption cat in two days, really looking forward to some extra help since this is my first cat
Read Jackson’s “Cat Mojo” book.... and cat behaviour books. Then have fun xxx
Sitting with my kitten that I adopted 3 weeks ago! Will still tune in for some advice. So far so good luckily! Mr. Mistoffelees is already so deep in my heart kitty can do no wrong. Got him at 11 weeks after he had been abused and neglected.
Hobbit jj awwww, you’re part of the good people club😊have a nice day!
Excellent name, I get the reference!
I adopted a 1 year-old cat last week, and it's definitely been an adjustment for both of us! I've been a dog person for most of my life, but couldn't justify keeping a dog in my small apartment. There's definitely been some growing pains, but I'm glad I found this channel today!
When you say *growing pains* what in particular?
Putting this out there. This dude is the guru of gurus.
me and my partner adopted 2 FIV+ cats from the shelter.
I've adopted a kitten he is 6 weeks old I'm picking him up around Christmas time lol ive already spent 200 dollars on stuff for him already
I adopted a kitten, and this is the first time I adopted anything. I hope this video can answer my questions!
The SEAKER DC Jackson has lots of great videos and really understands cats. Watch a bunch! Good luck!
My boy was a stray I had him neutered and microchip and he will be 10 years old soon, I love him so much
When we adopt ...we save them.
When we save them....they change us for better and for good.
We develop ourselves and together.

JG you are absolutely great!
Very excited for our new arrivals.
the stock footage of a guy looking at a piece of wood at a hardware store....it's a vibe.
I just adopted a rescue kitty. ❤️ I take great pride being his care taker.
told the shelter to show me the most difficult cats they had, regardless of age, gender, coloring or race. my only rule was that the new family member must be on similar wave length as my 2nd adopted cat, who is a very shy girl and a perfect scardy cat.
my 1st adopted cat and love of my life, was 10 when we met, one kidney and chronic cough.
the finance thing is spot on though.
Like Jackson, I don’t want to discourage anyone from adopting; it’s a beautiful feeling knowing you have helped an animal in need, but be realistic about your finances and be prepared.
"Use PVC" *video of lumber?* 😂 Thanks for this good info
In 9 days I'm getting a kitten for my birthday 😍. Can't wait!!!!
@@pbrossard happy bitrtgday for you then 🥳🤩🤩🤩
I adopted a new cat from a rescue back in March for a buddy for my other young cat I rescued last fall. Your videos helped A TON! Especially on how to properly introduce them. It was hard to be patient but they’re so happy and playful now. Best thing I’ve done all year.
Yes! This is exactly what I need I’m adopting soon
I had a cat who sadly past away 6 years ago.I was so sad but now I am ready to adopt a new cat.I love them. They are adorable and good company.
That's a lovely gesture, hope you be very happy together!
I Just got a kitten and he has changed my life and I love it he is my little angel
I have 2 cats from the shelter and they are my love. They turned out to be healthy and just purr awesome ♡
We adopted our 2yr old girl-cat in February and caring for her has rounded the days into something meaningful during these "unprecedented times."
lost my sweet boy to kidney failure a couple months ago, and he was only 5. he was everything to me but now thinking about giving TWO!! new kittens a home makes me so happy
I’m so excited to be adopting the beautiful bow in 4 days!
Adopted a little shy cat a month into quarantine. I’m still home but he has been so good. I’m just really proud of him. He has learned to play and he now loves being petted. I didn’t even know cat came this small in size, but the vet say he is perfect.
America_cat_ on IG got pretty and funny cats I adopted some last month and my family won't stop loving the cat. Thanks to America_cat_ on IG my family now live in peace
We rescued my babies about 20 years ago, my baby (Lucky) passed away this January at 19 years and his sister (Angel) is still going strong
Our first ever cat was a rescue from the RSPCA. Such a gorgeous and dignified lady she was.
I just adopted a kitty yesterday!! She’s very sweet and I’m so glad I did!
They’ve added so much joy to my life ❤️
My brother & SIL are fostering my new kitty! I get him on Friday and can't wait!😊
Where ever you’re in the world I’m always ready to put a smile on your vet again! 😊😻🐶🐄 IG @vegan_stefanie_hopkins♻️
