They merely covered it like a decade later I vaguely remember The Band playing Atlantic City (on Letterman?) in the ‘90s but it was a cover song to them. Springsteen wrote Atlantic City about 10 years before, back in the early’80s and I remember the song first being played on the radio. This was ‘82 or maybe ‘83. Which makes more sense?….Bruce Springsteen , from Jersey or The Band, from Canada wrote a song about legalized gambling in Atlantic City and the Philly Mob aka the Mafia making their move to control the money coming out of Atlantic City. Chicken Man was one of the bosses (maybe the main boss?) in the Philadelphia Crime Family. In the first line Bruce referenced him “They blew up the Chicken Man in Philly last night. They blew up his house too.”
