Sherry you just might have shown me the way out of poverty! I have about 15 sewing machines. (thought I would refurb/resell), a storage full of resell clothing that's not reselling. 2 body forms and an old sewing box of sewing notions. You are an answer to prayer. Thank you!
I'm so glad I can help! I will be doing a video on tips for selling upcycled clothing on Etsy and you are welcome to use any of my designs to do so! It sounds like you are well on your way to making some extra cash! I'm so happy for you!
I'm trying to figure out how two mens shirts are going to turn into two outfits for 130 dollars.? They are such ugly. Shirts. Ans she's wearing such an ugly outfit herself it doesn't bode well.
Hi! Just a little camera suggestion, alot of things are out of frame. I would suggest zooming out a bit with the camera so we can see what's going on better. That way it's easier to follow along for us
Hi and thank you for the helpful tip. My studio is really really small and I'm recording on my phone but I did learn I can zoom out on it so I will try and do that a bit. Thank you so much for the helpful tips I appreciate it and need all the help I can get! Thank you so much!
These are encouraging videos; thanks for sharing your creativeness! As my body shape has changed, I’ve started adding ‘V’s” in the sides of favourite shirts. This gives me more ideas! Blessings to everyone 🤗💗🇨🇦
Thank you for these videos Sherry. I started quilting with Men’s shirts because I love the colors and textures. I’ve been wanting to make myself a couple of aprons to wear in my workshop and this has really inspired me to stop procrastinating and just do it. Your Etsy site is adorable too! Keep up the good work…your relaxed demeanor and your ability to give yourself some Grace on your pleasant mistakes is something we could all use more of. We really take ourselves far too seriously! Lol. Have a wonderful day….
That is awesome! It just makes me smile to hear you say that! Thank you so much! I hope it turns out well and if not, stay tuned for my upcoming patchwork tutorial where I show how to use all those projects and pieces left over to make really fun new things.
Thank you for commenting and I'm super glad you like my videos. I'm hoping to work on that video either next or the one after. I've gotten several requests so I will try and make it soon!
I have done that before too. I am assuming you cut it off on the side toward the cuff. I would just zig zag the raw edge to keep if from overfraying and use it like that.
I know. I saw that too as I edited my footage. UA-cam and video making is all new to me so I'm sorry you all have to suffer through my learning process. Also, my studio is so small. It is hard to get far away shots or certain angles but I will do my best! Thank you for commenting and giving me that good and helpful tip!
Thank you Sherry for your tutorial video. Please tell me where did you get that sewing mat on your table. Look forward to learning n creating with you. Again, "Thank you"
Hi, I got it from Amazon. They sell it in all kinds of sizes. It is an ironing mat but can be cut on as well. Glad you joined the creators! I hope we have lots of fun together!
I would have liked to have seen what the finished project looked like at the beginning aside from hanging on a hanger. I wasn’t sure what you were making because there wasn’t a good view of it at the beginning. But I appreciate your ideas.
Well, I am new to making videos and it was my first project one. If you notice, the next one I did exactly as you are recommending here and it is the one that is getting the most views so you are absolutely correct! People prefer to know right away whether they want to make the project or not! Thank you for your comment and tip!
Hi Sherry, You just showed up on my feed and I’ve watched all of your videos, liked and subscribed! Want to make your pinafore and this tunic. So fun! I can’t wait to see more. I adore what you are wearing here and would love to see a video on how you made it. Best of luck to you and your new channel. ❤
Thank you so much! I feel like a kid having fun at a playground doing this UA-cam thing. I didn't know it was so much fun! Make a video about my shirt? That is a great idea! I was making a list of video ideas will put that one near the top of the list! Thank you so much and thank you for subscribing! You are awesome!
Would have loved to see a full view of the clothing item you are making in this video. Only able to see some fabric hanging on a hook. Thanks. Love this concept.
I am learning how to make videos so everyone sadly will have to suffer through my learning curve. Also, my studio is really really small. I hope to get better as I go along.
Thanks for the video. This is my first video. I am a new subscriber. Can you tell me if there is a video of how you made the dress you are wearing? I love it.
I'm so glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for watching! I usually try to use two shirts the same size, but it really depends on the sleeve length. To me, the longest sleeve should be the ones on the sides of the garment so if I have a smaller shirt or shorter sleeve it will be in the middle for the front and back. Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any more questions. Thanks!
Hi! I usually try and overlap just a 1/4 or 3/8 inches on the sleeves. I'm making a video to describe how to make these in plus sizes but the basic concept is that you have to add a piece between each sleeve as you sew them together. It is easiest to take another sleeve that goes well with your colors and cut it (or them if you need two) into strips and add as you go along. So say you needed 4 more inches that the sleeves you have, you would cut each one 1 inch plus seam allowance of 1 inch cause you are overlapping 1/4 of each piece. I will have a video on how to make both the apron tunic and the sleeve tunic in plus sizes soon.
Hi Sherry, love your videos. I have a question. What if I have a ton of Large and XL mens shirts, would this still work if I were to use 3 to 4 shirts (instead of 2 XXL)? Thank you.
You can use more sleeves but the look may be different. I would measure out how wide you need it to be and then lay out the sleeves or pin them together and see what you think of how it looks. If the bottom of the sleeves don't look right, another thing you can do is after you sew all your sleeves together, trim the bottom off flat and add a cute ruffle or denim piece. Hope this helps!
I love your up cycling channel. I have noticed that up cycling often calls for finding the largest size. Quality clothing options for larger bodies is limited.
Thank you so much! and yes, if you sew and sell on Etsy, plus sizes sell the best. Plus sized clothing in stores is usually alot more expensive with less options.
Hi Sherry, I became interested in your channel because you said a beginner can make this project. I subscribed because I’m curious to see what you will make next. You’re talented and generous, thank you for sharing your creativity. Also love❤the top you’re wearing. Is that a beginner project as well?😊
Thank you for subscribing! The top I was wearing in the video is not hard to make at all. I will also be putting up beginner sewing crash course without anything fancy or hard in it and beginner projects that are really cute. Thank you again for subscribing and for all those kind and encouraging words!
I know. I'm new at doing this youtube thing and it is not easy...at least not for me. Sadly, some footage just can't be redone. I hope to get better as I go along. Sorry you all have to suffer through my learning curve.
I do that because I sew different weights with the same needle and settings for other fabrics...like pressure feed etc. It makes it sew normal. I've sewn for years and years and know what I need to do but thank you for thinking about me.

Thank you so much for all those positive words and for encouraging me!

I love men’s shirts. The fabrics, the structure, the patterns and on and on. I think I’ll try this.

I love this reuse of men’s shirts… your videos have inspired me to try some garments with shirts I already have. Thank you. 🙏🏽

I agree with all the comments. You have some creative ideas but I couldn't figure out what you were making!
Funny, protect the world. Thank you for sharing.
I love your buzzed hair. I just recently did mine and it is so freeing!!! Now I want to go with even shorter hair next month.
Those are some nice shears!!
Thanks! Looking forward to part 2! Kathleen
Wow … great idea! 😊

I love the top you have on. Do you have a video how to?
I will be doing a tutorial on it very soon! Thank you so much for asking and for watching my videos. It's so encouraging! Thank you !

Aw...thank you. You are such a blessing!
I love your dress! I love your creations! ❤❤❤
Thank you so much!
Whoops on one of my shirts i was cutting off one of the arms i cut it on the wrong seam how do i fix that?
I have done that before too. I am assuming you cut it off on the side toward the cuff. I would just zig zag the raw edge to keep if from overfraying and use it like that.

Hi from Texas. Please do a video in regard to what you are wearing. Thank you for sharing. More, please.
Will do!
Keep the videos coming please!
I'll do my best!

Did you make that t-shirt??? That’s great! Can make a video showing us that process?
Yes, I did. I'm working on a video right now to show how I made it. Thank you for asking!
P S Do you "jar up your buttons n zippers also? As a child, I use to be fascinated by their button jar collections, as well as various beads. :)
I love jars of buttons. Unfortunately, it was more handy for me to sort mine so I can use them. It was hard to do though.
Hello is it important to use 2 of the same size shirts together? I loved watching this. Thank you for sharing.
I'm so glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for watching!

how much are you over lapping pieces together? You try to use 2x size mens shirts ,how would you make one of these for a plus size person?

It ended so abruptly, and I where is pt. 2? This is so cute I hope pt 2 is somewhere.

I have never seen anyone upcycle anything this way before. I have been buying and using men's shirts to do patchwork with.
I hope I've inspired you into new heights in upcycling :)
Yes. You have. @@SherryJonesDesigns
Are they both flannel or do you mix fabrics?
You can make them with any kind of shirt which is awesome cause you can have warmer ones or lighter fabric ones for warmer weather.

Could you show the final tunic?
It is in part 2.
@@SherryJonesDesigns oh sorry... My fault! 🙈Thanks for the video
Can't see the white writing over your whjte cutting board...
❤❤❤
Where did the end of the video go? So wanted to see what you made.
This was part 1. The rest is in part 2.
It's a pity that you can't see everything because it was shot outside the camera area.
I know. I'm new at doing this youtube thing and it is not easy...at least not for me. Sadly, some footage just can't be redone. I hope to get better as I go along. Sorry you all have to suffer through my learning curve.

Hopefully I'll get better at making videos as I go along. Sorry you have to suffer through my learning curve.
Do not pull fabric thru the machine just guide it
I do that because I sew different weights with the same needle and settings for other fabrics...like pressure feed etc. It makes it sew normal. I've sewn for years and years and know what I need to do but thank you for thinking about me.
