I just bought a OnePlus Open on Wednesday. It's out for delivery today. Got an incredible black Friday deal through Amazon. Can't wait to get it, I keep looking out the window
I just bought a One plus Open a couple of weeks ago. It is the best foldable hands down. One plus is an amazing company. I wish more people would give it a chance cause they are the shit!!! Love this phone!!!!.
Dear Shane, I had exactly the same issue after three weeks of using it after buying it back in September '24. I was so frustrated as it wasn't cheap at all and I depended on the fingerprint sensor using it as my daily driver and for my banking transactions which require fingerprint authentication. Tried everything, also including factory reset and nothing happened... I brought my Open back to the store expecting it was going to be replaced as I had a warranty, but they suggested trying to get it fixed, and if that was unsuccessful, they were going to replace it. After about a week they returned it fixed with no clear explanation what that was all about except telling me that it had a "software issue" and without any signs of physical / hardware manipulation or tampering. Since then I've been using it all along as a daily driver with no further issues with it. The only thing I changed in settings was to screen-off unlock with firm touch, as I was scared it would break again eventually. No complaints since... Kind regards.
I wonder if this could be software related? I had this EXACT same issue happen on my Galaxy Z Fold 4 a few years back, contacted Samsung about it and they said they were aware of it and "should be fixed by next update". I waited a few weeks, update rolls out, and sure enough it worked again! I hope this is the same for you and that you won't have to live without a fingerprint scanner until the OnePlus Open 2 releases!
Between things getting under your screen, and the issues you've had with the pixel fold, and now this, it's pretty clear that folding phones are not even close to durable.. and it still gives me confidence that the Z fold is the most durable phone, at least as of now
I'm not sure the device having a hinge is at fault for the fingerprint scanner failing. This sort of thing happened a decent amount when more devices had fingerprint scanners like foldables. I would probably agree that Samsung has the most durable device at the moment, although you'll find no shortage of hardware failures from those devices online as well.
I have had this happen multiple times now. What works for me is changing screen-off unlock from light touch to firm touch (or vice versa). I have no idea why this kicks it into working again, but I have reported this on the OnePlus forums a few times.
oh shiiiiish... O.O I had EXACTLY the same thing, just something poking the screen from inside the hinge, but after 7 days and it instantly damaged the inner screen causing the black dot, which was spreading until I sent it to the Service Center... OnePlus'es Support is rock bottom level... it took them a month to replace the screen, but they never properly glued the phone and it was just delaminating. 2 more visits in Service Center and they did replace my device, on my request. That was after 5 freaking months... But the best part is that I had a Protection Plan bought on it. Imagine that They finally managed to refund me that insurance for the old unit A WEEK AGO. 12 months this shitshow was ongoing xd oh, and they also lied to me multiple times, and tried to scam me from half of that protection plan cost xd But the new unit, the device itself - just completely amazing, no issues at all now, best phone ever :P I really don't know if I would go OnePlus next time, because of fear of repeating that support experience.
Kind of surprised the fingerprint scanner went like that. I actually have something similar going on under the crease of my OnePlus Open as well. But I haven't noticed any real issue, or anything else happening with it.
Im a carpenter and ive had the oneplus open since it released and i dont have a case. The only issue i have had with the phone is the inside screen has a slight visible wear mark from me swiping. And i think its only because i use my phone with grime on my hands alot
I don't work a desk job, I do various different activites thoughout the day and some of them are insanely clean. I am very surprised at how well my OPO has held up while be in my pocket everyday.
@@scaryifliteral I just double checked the vid and I'm pretty sure there's a strange dent-like something happening between the scanner and the back side of your phone(right on the edge). I've checked mine has straight edge. Sorry for being phonetic :)
One year plus of ownership and my only concern is that it folds less flat than normal, but very slightly. Otherwise, excellent foldable, but I did more on to the 9 Pro Fold and I'm happy with the move!
My OnePlus Open is my daily driver. I have dropped my phone many times, and the fingerprint reader works great. I cannot believe how tough this phone is. Knock on wood.
such different types of device though. If you just want raw performance/price, even the oneplus 12 has stronger cameras, chip, and battery than the open. If you want the flexibility of a foldable, I think you should wait for the Open 2 releasing in 2025
I have like 5 bumps like that on my pixel 9 pro fold literally out of the box. my OPO tho had a weird crack sound from the hinge in the bottom. when pressing one side and holding the other one, the hinge is moving like 1 millimeter or so and makes that sound
I have also had a similar problem on an ROG phone, where i punted it the ground and the figerprint option just almost got erased out of the entire os.i know it is not the same thing, but,it is similar,it had an optical under display sensor tho.I just went to a service and after like a week it was done and everything was working,no idea what caused that problem, tho
OK I thought it was just me but I've had a similar problem for a min. I would put my finger on it and it would vibrate but the screen would still be dark. I did this 2 - 3 times and it was still dark. I thought it didn't read my fingerprint so I opened it and the screen came on but it still was locked until I touched the sensor and then it unlocked. So my assessment is that while the screen was off it wouldn't unlock but once the screen came on it unlocked. It happened about 3 times but since then I tried to recreate it but I couldn't. At one point I thought the case was messing with it and me but nope, it was the phone.
DO NOT PRESS ON BUMPS LIKE THIS UNDER ANY FOLDABLE INNER SCREEN. YOU HAVE TO CLEAN THE HINGE ASAP TO AVOID GETTING A DEAD PIXEL LINE. My Fold 4 had a bump (common issue due to the brushes in the hinge coming lose) and I pressed on it lightly then got a line of dead pixels. Same happened to 3 phones of people I know (Fold 4s too) and Samsung didn't cover fixing my phone (had to pay 500 usd to fix it). That phone was absolute trash durability wise. You need to give the phone to a technician to open it and remove the stuff stuck in the hinge or you'll get the dead pixels line sooner or later. (I saw someone on reddit clean the hinge without opening the phone but do that on your own risk.. All the best.

Same here! Mine is arriving in an hour and I cannot wait! Enjoy yours brother
Great choice, I've had mine O+O for 10 months now and I absolutely love it.
@@Nicktechnoo Amazon always delivers late here! Still waiting. If you don’t mind me asking, what kinda deal did you get?

Unfortunately, that setting is only visible after setting a fingerprint which I cannot do lol.
That’s unfortunate for such an expensive device. I see a dent near the frame of the fingerprint sensor.

That really sucks i hope either insurance covers a swap out or the update fixes that issue
Hey, thanks for the vid! Waiting for the OxOS15! :)
I've noticed a dent near your fingerprint scanner, probably that's the reason?
There is no dent?

Off topic question, what Screen protector do you have on your Open? All the ones I find on Amazon aren't nearly that flush to the edges.
It was from Amazon, but it's not for sale anymore.
Get a dbrand prism, full screen protector
I have that excact thing on my P9PF basically 1 cm under the middle line of the crease. It kind of looks like a part of the hinge mechanism.

Shane, tell me, do you hear any suspicious sounds when you unfold the phone?
I got one on black Friday deals last week! I think the software needs debugging 😢
How is the front screen , do you recommend OnePlus open or OnePlus 13 coming up

@Tonyw2e I just got the os15 update. I will keep the 12 for now.
Good video. Ty
I actually just sold mine on Tuesday.
Hey I have the same little bump underneath the internal screen, I'm thinking it's debris too.
Had this issue with my z fold 6 but a factory reset fixed it. Weird.
That is why I bought a Samsung. I seen those bumps on oneplus open before. I could not trust that inner screen.
Happens on Samsung devices too.
@@scaryifliteral I have not seen it on the newer ones yet. I bought the 6 so am hoping they improved it.

Is it just me, or does it look like your phone is bent on the right side of the power button?
i had failure in the inner screen but not fingerprint scanner.

I would assume most people would know better than to go pushing on it. It's been there for months, I'm happy to let it play out.
I check mine, it doesn't stick out, humm interesting
Of course I have a plastic sorta case on mine, but it doesn't cover the fingerprint scanner.?
That's why im skeptical of foldables that you send away for. Ybonly fearM
