    Been so many years and I remember showing it to my wife, she loved it too.
    She unfortunately passed away in February 2022 so she never saw it finished but am glad I did.
    Perhaps somewhere she's still keeping an eye out, haha.
    So happy its finally done!

    To save you from some future pain you really should pour a concrete footing under both gate doors on the aviary (I would recommend at least 3 feet deep and 2 feet wide with a packed stone base of at least another 1-2 feet) if not a straight up full pad gate to gate (the full pad should be at least 6 inches deep on a similar packed stone base). Things like that will stop even bears from digging into the aviary under the gates.

    • @whitehouseonthehill
      @whitehouseonthehill  8 годин тому +1

      Too cold now. Freezing most days now. But we’ll do some concrete next year when we can get it in.

    (If u were to pair the pied to a white, u would get a 50/50 ratio of pieds to whites)

    Many years ago, my youngest brother laid out a nice area for a play yard at our parents. We used tar paper (didnt know about landscap fabric) inside the landscape timbers. I help roll it out & bro threw 6 tons river rock on area we put the swing/fort/slide. I started helping evening it out. The next weekend we got another load rock, then a 3rd load. The next week i had a pacemaker put in, so bro had to finish the last load . The grandkids were young, now all but 1 are in college (my grandkids live in different state), and we took down the playset. 16 years later & u can barely tell it ever was a playyard.

    If you have gravel left, I would remove a strip of dirt under the doors, like may be 3 ft wide all the wight of the door and add the gravel tempered into the trench. I’m in Ontario 🇨🇦 and we have hard winter. I don’t know about you but if you have real frost, and a slab of concrete under the doors, you have a chance the frost will cause it to move up. It’s a lot easier to remove tempered gravel than a slice of concrete to open the door. Since I’m not sure where you live you can do it if you need it.

    I would suggest maybe doing 2 rounds of wire? Another one a 2nd foot up. Racoons are wiley and if desperate enough they can jumpand grab above your foot high electric to scramble upwards! Technically, they can jump up 2 4ft if really desperate

    You all are so awesome and dedicated! Can’t wait to see the birds set “free” in the aviary. Wishing you all success with it and praying it stays predator free

    I would put a screen at the side of one of the gates, so it covers that gap, rats, weasels etc can easily fit through that gap between the gates. You should put another layer of electric fence, foxes & raccoons, can jump a foot off the ground and chew through.
