"Map that's decent driven 'intended way' but also has intended shortcut-path" should honestly be a much more prevalent genre of map, that was so cool
Yeah I never understand when people think a shortcut is a flaw. The chance at saving time on a cool cut is what makes the game a lot more interesting
that map was the winner for me personally from just watching
@@sbilldmilk I think in 95% of cases you’re right, but there are definitely some tracks that just get objectively worse because of shortcuts. Like, those campaign maps a while ago that were bobsleigh but had reactors that people abused. It sort of ruined those maps, at least for the people that actually liked bobsleigh.

WoodCutting was such a cool map!
Puzzle/rpg is going to be wild with 4 cars, you could have checkpoint requiring 1 car and put the change block behind other cars

Yea, using the car swap as a 'key' to access places. Also means you will have to drive the same part of the map with different cars, making it feel different. RPG maps are going to be wild.
im curious if certain cars could be required like if a gap is too short to fit snow car so you need to switch to stadium car. and yeah turning the same parts of tracks into something else with a different car will be firr

What wirtual said at 9:10 got me thinking that an interesting map might be to have stadium car on the left side of a mirror map and the new car on the right. The map could be balanced so that both cars have around the same finish time.
left for keyboard and right for wheel, maybe.

Personally I feel like the Wall of Doom map should've won the mapping competition... But that's just me.

In TM 2003 you weren't able to change car in mid-track. This alone makes huge difference, even if it seems simple.
TM 2003 were 3 games in coat of one, same goes for United forever. This is actual one game.
2003 also had far fewer players, so for many people this isn't nostalgia, it's just new.
@@OriginalPiManI think it's Trackmania United where most people will have seen those environments. From 2007 all the way to 2020, so 13 years, until the playerbase moved to Trackmania 2020.

Woodcutting is a really clever name for a map made entirely of wood where the whole idea is that there are loads of shortcuts you can do.
The snow car has brought me back after 14 years without playing and it's crazy all the mechanics now. I play with the mouse btw so there's at least two of us lol.
I really like how with every new surface the new car etc. there are so many new possibilities
7:05 I can confirm, we are not actually the happiest people in the world and we like making depressing untransitional maps.
when they add other cars and other surfaces, like the lagoon roller coaster blocks or maybe older dirt blocks from dessert, the physics are going to get real funky based on which car is on which surface.
IMO Island would be the most fun. The high speed / full speed potential is insane.
@@inverlockThe thing about Island though, or also Canyon that people have proposed, is that what defines them is speed, and also way larger maps to utilize that sense of speed. That's what I like so much about these environments (and the tropical sun of course), and I don't know how well that can be adapted to the Stadium.

I would love to see maps with car swaps next to eachother, so you'd be able to choose what car to run at different sections of the map, or if you just want to run the same car all map.
Would be fun and great to optimize maps.

Ohhh this gave me a map idea: trial/puzzle map where you drive the same sections twice but can reach different places due to different car physics. So like CP is right there but you need to change car to get there.

Really? Even though the water is clear and relatively shallow? I mean, I feel that in big oceans, but I wouldn't have thought that a bigger pool would be enough.
@@Jdnfjdksndjlogically yes there's nothing to fear but there's nothing logical about it. I think it's the underwater jump, the hidden dark underwater ledge is what gets me lol. Also any vents that suck water into the water cleaning system. I have an unreasonable fear of getting stuck in the pipes.

I liked the map with the reactor up ending the most.

Do the cars have the same hitbox ? Imagine a jump or a gap or a tunnel or a low bar or narrow gap, that one car can fit but not the other, now switch mid air, so you have to line it up with the wrong car xD

an idea for a map: have multiple paths, each path have it's separate car effect. (waiting for multiple cars for multiple paths). another idea is let player choose the cars they want on one route.
