holding Shift while dragging clips up or down with the mouse keeps them aligned where they are on the timeline too... I use this when moving clips in an interview timeline to ensure I'm not getting bits out of sync or leaving mini gaps
you are handeling great topics ! coud you tell us how can I show those edges when I move the footage around ! sometimes they disappear and you have to zoom in very much to be accurate
Cntrl + Shift + / duplicates stuff in the project panel and names them copy 01, 02, etc. Alt + Select just audio or just video and using arrows to move is a great tip! Thanks Colin.
@videorevealed , wow, thank you, thank you Colin, for so much useful information you put into this for us. All The Best To You & Yours & To Everyone Reading This Appreciative Pr Pro CC Beginner
Good tips. At the same time, I suggest checking your voice audio settings. Exaggerated the noise removal plugin, and the voice sound is so let's say "aerospace". Thanks. Roberto.
Great video, thank you! I am new at Premiere Pro. How do I keep B-Roll attached to a specific video and audio section? I finished adding B-Roll and realized that I needed to razor cut some talking head video at the beginning of the timeline and so I cut, not realizing that it would move all of the B-Roll footage, so it no longer matches with the audio. Thanks.
Hello! I am facing a new issue. I was used to hold shift down in order to activate snap only when i wanted it, and drag my clips around. For some reason I am unable to do so currently...
Is there any way to turn off the setting that dragging one clip on top of another cuts into and deletes the original? I upgraded to Adobe from Vegas Pro and my old software never did this :(
Another excellent and informative lesson, I've been looking for something like this. Thank you,,what mic did you use for this video?,,I'm looking for one to do simple voice overs but the selection can be over whelming .. thanks again,,
Thank you for nice tip. I used a lot to import PS multi layers files as sequences. each time I put it to timeline it has empty audio clip which I need to delete - boring to do it all the time. By default logic PS files are not supposed to have audio at all...Do you have any idea how get rid of this?
Look at the left side of the Timeline for V1 A1 blue buttons. Make sure you have no A1, A2, etc. selected (blue) before you drag in the Photoshop file. That's called Source Patching. When you import a Photoshop file as a Sequence, it will always have audio because it's a Sequence now and not an image.
it'd be helpful if these were timestamped. I'm looking specifically to extend a clip and shift/move the rest of mytimeline w/o overwriting another clip (if that makes sense)
Hello sir. Love all your videos. Thank s a lot. I wanted to know if there is any way to synch post DI footage with offline edit timeline? Or does it have to be done manually ? Once again.. thank you for all the amazing tips u give us. Appreciate choir efforts ..😊
I have a lot of problem with this as newbie. If I want to move a clip a few minutes earlier or later in the timeline it’s tortuous, dragging it to the right spot. Is goes by slow fast to very slow. Im never able to get it where it want efficiently.
I'm trying to move a grouping of clips that are several minutes down in the timeline to a point earlier in the timeline. There is blank space between clips of about 5 minutes. Isn't there a way of moving clips to a specific point in the timeline without dragging for 3 minutes or copying and pasting?
No, although Premiere Pro does have that command, there is no button or menu command to actually do it. But, you can use the amazing third-party extension Excalibur to do that and a whole lot more. filedn.eu/lAqdTKcygykS8uvXMDMXHnV/MoveToPlayhead.jpg Here's my tutorial on Excalibur: ua-cam.com/video/PDNSFJ8QnjQ/v-deo.html
Hi Colin First of all id like to say your tuition is second to none, explained so brilliantly, especially for someone like myself who is new to premier Pro. Years ago i used Avid and remember only ever having to need 1 or 2 video Tracks open because the selection tool was either red or yellow and if you chose yellow and inserted a clip from a bin say for example 34 seconds in the timeline (at a cut point) then it would slot right there and push all the other tracks forward without overwriting anything. This is something i was hoping premier pro would do ??
I don't know how to ask this, or know what to call it, but, I'm trying to find out what causes the top part of a recording to appear to be rocking back and forth! It's weird! Everything even the trees, fences and people appear to be moving, while the bottom half is not! Why is that?
Wow. I was just searching for how to do this with the mouse yesterday and assumed that holding Alt/option with the mouse would move things straight up and down. Nope. And yeah, if you have a transition in place it's really easy to move something "up" and shift it left or right by a few frames without noticing it.
Many AE editors looking to move entire "layers" of clips up and down the timeline in Premiere will be disappointed. In Premiere "layers" are called "tracks" and to my knowledge there is no way of moving them like you can in Photoshop or After effects. (correct me if I'm wrong) You can only move the clips in the tracks up and down, therefore invading and replacing whatever was there first.
came here for this, annoyed to find out its fact. AE seems much more intuitive accross all other adobe apps (layers etc) and event with other programs like Final Cut in teh way if handles 'stuff' in the time line.
@@VideoRevealed No you didn't, it wasn't specified. There are key points to any help videos, and I am offering a suggestion, that those should be written in text. What we think we enunciate may not happen. I would also have amplified your message. Tell us how inserting a clip can be done and why it should not be used. As you stated at the beginning, when timelines get congested, inserting, destroys things rapidly. You are absolutely correct in instructing editors to ONLY use an overwrite, but tell us why. The tip to keep a copy at the beginning of a session is brilliant ! By the way I am a huge ( paying ) fan !
Any one learning Premiere Pro should have you bookmarked. You are my go to Guru.

U just saved my life, and don't even know it. Thank you
You are the best channel about premiere, well done !!
Excellent clarity in your delivery here
Thx. Yr a great teacher. Good voice too!
Thanks Colin. Another time saving tip: Shift + clicking lock, locks all the Audio or Video tracks.
Yep, I use that from time to time.
Holding ctrl+shift+/ on any item in the project bin will also duplicate that item. Thanks for another great video, Colin!
WOW, I had no idea that default shortcut was there. Thanks!
@@VideoRevealed Glad to be of some help!
Oh SNAP!! Thanks Colin. I have to start using the arrow keys more and not use the mouse to move clips up and down. Thanks so much!!
Glad you liked it Marc.

Nah, I think it's good. 😜
@VideoRevealed Hi Colin - when working with a mouse if you press the Shift key while moving a clip up or down it moves it with perfect frame alignment
Yes, I did hear that one.
Oh GREAT help..... I will use this from now on... moning up and down the timeline...
Great to hear.

My mic isn't appropriate for voice overs. It's a Sennheiser MKH 416-P48U3 Boom Mic.

how do i just change v2 to v1 one without moving the clip i want to swap the whole track like a photoshop layer

Oh duplicating and then accidentally editing the old one? Yep I've done that lol
And when you do that, it's kinda embarrassing - right? 😆
You didn't specify what Alt-Option does in addition to just using the up or down key
I think I did. The arrow key does not move the clip, that's why you hold Alt or option.
