Jersey Shore Stripers: '23 Fall Run Madness With the American Sportfishing Association

- Join The Fisherman Magazine along the Jersey Shore beaches in late November of '23 for a sampling of the fall striper run, beginning with a little sand eel bite amidst the snow flurries at Brick Beach, followed by some afternoon madness at Island Beach State Park during the peanut bunker invasion. The Fisherman's Mike Caruso and Jim Hutchinson, Jr. kick things off after gearing up at Grumpys Tackle in Seaside before dawn, with an interview with American Sportfishing Association president Glenn Hughes (3:19) where he discusses what ASA is and what they all do on behalf of the entire recreational fishing community.

Mike, Jim and The Fisherman's Jenni Ackerman found a solid bite alongside Mike and Glenn, with help from our guides of the day, Grumpys' reel maestro Frankie Z and Angry Fish Gallery's Tom Lynch. Hop in the 4WD buggy with us for a run & gun surfcasters' quest for November into December striped bass along the Central Jersey Coast, which ultimately leads to some of that shoulder-to-shoulder madness (13:30) that many folks have come to expect from this favorite time of year.

Beautiful weather we have been getting, Do you think the whales are feeding heavy on Stripers? ASA 90 years ago must have had their hands full and one example was the pollution of the Hudson river from The George Washington Bridge to north of the Bridge now the waters are much cleaner and a abundance of different species have been caught and seen.
The whales aren't eating stripers that I'm aware of; they're all (stripers & whales) feeding on the same local baits though, menhaden in particular but undoubtedly the clouds of sand eels as well. -JH
