In today's video we through a leg over Suzuki's SV 650x. While the SV 650 has been around for over a decade, I know because I started riding on one in 2010, this specific model is a new flavor Suzuki is offering. Instead of the upright body position, they slam you down with some clip-ons which entirely changes the ergonomics of this motorcycle. Let's see how it rides! Remember we are comparing this SV 650x with Honda's CBR 650R and Kawasaki's Ninja 650 to see which is the best 650 class motorcycle available on the market today!

I bought the SV650X for my first bike and I gotta say it loves the curves
On the highway the wind holds you up and your body acts like a spoiler and air brake
100% recommend it, she's a great ride
Is there a windscreen that fits it?
I disagree with the highway portion of this review, but otherwise a good review. I got this exact bike after a 2018 KTM Duke 390. I hated being on the highway with the Duke because the handlebars would wobble constantly and the wind blast was excessive. This bike's clip-ons allow you to get low on the highway, and it feels AWESOME and stable when you're down low. I'm pretty sure the little fairing in the front helps with the wind blast. If you're coming off a small CC bike or if this is your first bike, it's an excellent choice. I fucking LOVE this thing - its fast but not suicidal-fast for those of you who aren't speed demons. I raced my buddy's Z900 and kept ahead until 90ish mph. I've taken this to 130mph two times so far and I'm sure it'll reach 135-140. You have to know what this bike is - it's not a supersport competitor, it's a hybrid naked bike that's meant for daily, reliable fun. Also, the circle front brake reservoir allows you to put a fucken silly reservoir cover on it. Definitely put an aftermarket exhaust for some low end grunt. For context, I'm 145lbs and 5'7.
It's no parallel twin chase, it's a v twin. Totally different engine style
Rectangular twin
@@satampady675 90 Grade V2 engine!
@lI no it’s a v twin. No such thing as an L twin
I have the exact bike, its just a blast to ride everytime I get on it.
Frankly, I don’t think this gentleman has much motorcycle experience. He talks about the bike feeling weird when leaning. That’s contrary to every other review I’ve ever seen. I own a standard 2018 SV650 and think it handles like it’s on rails. Plus, it’s plenty fast. I owned a BMW K1200RS which was a screamer and I don’t find the SV low on power. Please search out other reviews.
Love the brown seat, especially on the all black one.
4:04 every clutch operated motorcycle had adjustable clutch. For some motorcycle manufacturer it's behind that rubber piece protecting the lever clutch play adjuster. You just need to pull the rubber aside and twist the adjuster, you can adjust to short engaged or long engaged. Sometimes it's that small analyzing detail that can get you like a motorcycle or the other way around.
"That mirror sucks"
"I love these mirrors"
@@gregorydeleine9415Probably…but still can’t say it that way :p
I have just bought this bike for my son's 21st on St Patrick's Day (17 March 2020) as his birthday present. Thanks for the advice ChaseOnTwoWheels.
Just bought this bike..I put a Competition Werkes USA pipe on it...Holy crap is it beautiful sounding!
I'm a bit biased on this, I currently ride an 04 sv650n with clipons and a gsxr front end swap. I love that bike.
i have an 02 SV650S with lower fairings... I love it..
How much did the front end swap cost you? I have a totaled first gen sv650 and I'm considering the swap if I rebuild it.
@@2m7b5 depends how much luck you have but it's definitely possible without spending more than 1000 bucks
3rd gen sv650's have low rpm assist so when you slightly pull out the clutch, it revs the engine to prevent stalling
Such a great feature in stop start traffic. I just feather the clutch and coast along.
@@SirSpinalColumn same
I think a bike capable of doing almost 130mph could handle the highway !!!
Captain Average it’s more nearing 139 for me. That’s full tuck on a 2017 normal sv650
that side shot while on the highway is fire!
The SV650 platform is such a good bike, for all experience levels too I think! You looked well up on there :) Great video!
I rode the sv650x at your meetup last year. It felt like a solid bike for the short trip we took.
I really want to get this as my first bike. I was looking at the SV 650 but when I saw this bike I loved loved loved the way it looked, my goodness it is sexy. I would mainly be using it to commute and ride around town. I’m pretty dead set on the SV 650 or the 650x. But love the channel, love your commentary even on bikes I have on interest in. Keep up the great content
Just bought my X with 0 miles and $7k OTD price, can't love it more!
clutch and throttle are adjustable, no need to spend money, and as advice when you talk about twins, make the difference of what kind of twin, parallel, V or whatever, i think that info is relevant since they behave way different from each other
tx for the video !
The opinion of Chase on bikes must not be taken to much in consideration this type of mistakes just show that he is good and geeky on filming and making good content and sill after this couple years he is one bad reviewer, with low experience, poor riding, and keeps doing allot of mechanical simple mistakes and errors, just look closely how he is one big goofy dumm in the bike rebuild series. Seriously it's better to have your own test rides.
Excellent, as usual. A very comprehensive review that provides excellent information for those interested in the SV650X. For me, it's a wealth of useful information! Thank you so much!
Chase. I've been watching for 6 years. I remember the r6 before Holly, the first wr 250x, yellow mustang! Have some confidence. You are the man. The pioneer of motovlogging
The sv650x has clip on bars and a better seat Co pared to the normal sv650, so your more leaned over on the X
Great videos, thanks. Nice paint job on that one.
"Twin engine isn't made to be going fast" this dude clearly hasn't ridden a 1299 Panigale.
Yes he did, and he wrecked it lol.
He even has a video of it.
Filmed ages ago.
own it and love it! great shots of bike
I have a SFv 650. I love it. Great deep sound.
Looks badass, I but tires with a sportier profile would probably change the feel of leaning while turning
Holy shoot, that sound check just made my day
It looks so cool!
I absolutely love that version, it kinda sucks they charge you so much for those simple visual changes but man It looks so good aside the base model ( which also looks really nice)
BTW that black bmw from the starts looks awesome
This bike looks amazing.
2011 SV650 was the best. Such a nice bike that deserves more attention
I like the fluid cylinder like that on the handle bars personally.
you meant "brake fluid reservoir" right, which basically every bike has
Solid 8.5. Great bike to ride
Good test ride! I had a 2000 SV650, and still have an '03 SV1000S and a '08 GSX650F (they should still make that bike). I ride on all the roads that you just put this SV on, lol.
What about the turning radius on close curves or at slow speed?Do the clip-ons reduce it too much? Is it comfortable?
The clutch was buttery when I got to test ride one. I rode the upright one, though. After owning an SV1000 (v twin with the approximate power of a 4cyl 600), the standard SV650 felt like a baby again. I was accidentally revving it out in 1st and 2nd trying to get onto the highway lol, because the 1k gets up to 50 or 60 mph in 1st.
Yeah looking at the Suzuki website, the SV650x has way lower bars than the SV650. Def gonna have a more chill seating position on the standard model.
I have it in black silver with Superbike Handlebars German Model the seat are also black/silver. The black/ wihte combination looks good! Your opinion to a black exhaust is right-looks better! Thanks for the video, is fun to watch!👍🏻
"The SV650X - which gets lower clip-on handlebars for an even sportier riding position" from Suzuki website. Still we'd love a review of the standard SV650 as well. Especially one like me who's saving for one ;)
chase already has one on the channel
17:46 Almost every bike out there has an adjuster from factory for the throttle play. It can be changed in about 45 seconds for no cost lol.
lol i was looking for a comment like this..there's an adjuster literally in front of the throttle
But you just spent an extra $900!?!?!?
I hate it when mechanically feeble guys try to post videos about things they know nothing about.
Newbies treat them like gods and a whole new generation of nitwits is born.
@@SirSpinalColumn true!
Like the sporty feeling
At 13:10 you said “can the parallel twin handle the highway...
I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who cringed when he said that
Yeah I mean it’ll “only” do a sub 4 second 0-60. It might struggle on the highway 🙄
And that’s ignoring this is a v, not a parallel.
I mean depending on the speeds you wanna do on the highway. I live in canada right so we deal with kilometers an hour and when he was doing 90 miles an hour that was like 140 kilos an hour. You never need to go that speed on any road in canada. So I'd think it would be just fine on the highway
kyle hillier they keep up with traffic just fine, the ergos just aren’t great for long distance riding. I’ve got about 7000kms in the saddle of one of these bad boys.
Chase, the new 2019 Sv650x has the black exhaust as stock!
2020**
I would say the CB650R is not in the same category, price wise and specially engine, 4 cylinder vs 2, I mean sure if the price are close, but they aren't. the fact that the Mt-07 is almost 700cc doesn't mean it's not comparable in the class, it's actually the direct competition of the SV and the Ninja650. So this series would be better if it had the Mt-07 in the mix.
I love the look of the X but after sitting on it I was a no go.......you could put some clip on high rise bars. The standard model is 10X more comfortable if you want to weekend cruise.
I bought the same bike 2020 model with scorpion exhaust. Sounds awesome. Video coming soon
There is one of these at mountain motorsports roswell. I am weighing it verses the mt07. I am kind of leaving toward the 650x due to the suspension.
What did you end up getting?
Hey chase, how fast was your SV and what did it look like? Mine doesnt have the "SV650s" logo near the headlight and seems to move a bit more than what others say. to my knowledge it is stock.
Watching this...bothers me.
I have seen a lot of your videos Chase, and I always gave you some credit and respect for your opinions. But lately...you are making a ton of mistakes on bikes you're reviewing. I don't know if it's because your trying to keep fresh content coming that you're rushing out videos and not doing the needed homework on what you're talking about, or if you just don't get to spend enough time with the bike to make a fair review of it.
I know this is a first ride, not a review, but there is a lot of things you say here that aren't correct...or partially correct.
I get it, you're only one man and it's one man's opinion. I just think that when you have a large influence pool, it's only fair to them and the bikes you ride to give them an honest shake. Knowing a bike has a Vtwin over a Parallel is just ONE such thing. The SV650x, as an example, has that SUzuki throttle technology that makes it very hard to stall, which makes for very smooth take offs even when you don't know how to ride well. It's a cafe bike, not a sport, and that has a huge bearing on it's design and how you sit on it.
Look, all I'm saying is, it's a waste of everyone's time, yours included, when you don't take the time to get the facts straight before you make such a video.
If this is how you want to make vids, fine, but I'd just change the title to "Watch me ride SV650x" and not talk about it. At least that way, you're not giving bad info to people who might seriously be considering buying that bike. I wouldn't even be saying something if this wasn't something that seems to be happening more and more as we go forward. Slow down bro, take the time to make accurate, quality content. It keeps the egg off your face.
Peace.
@Brandon Herrin I own this bike and I found this content to be dead on accurate. You’re asking him to be specific on every detail. Not sure that’s going to be an issue with all viewers, just you.
I was thinking the exact same thing, through the whole video. I couldn't wait to get through it, just so I could find a better review. (what kept me watching was the beauty of the SV650X design).
Wait til you see the black one with red trellis frame. it's the same vibe with h2's black and green frame
Could you do an aprilia rsv4 or tuono for one of your first rides
Great review. It answers a bunch of questions I had about this bike. Would like to see your comparison, opinion on the regular SV650 😊
He did a review of the 2017 SV650. Look for it. He hated it. He crapped all over it. Didn't stop me from buying it, because most other reviewers loved it. I sat on the X. The forward position is not for me.
I think the guys didn't know about the 1 touch engine start 😁🤣
Wow nice bike 👌👌
2:45. Chas the Two Wheeled Clown!😂😂
I fell in love with the cosmetics of this bike immediately and decided to buy it. Didn’t realize till the day of purchase, it leaned over too much for me, but bought it anyway. What I hate most is the wind bounces of my chest and head which makes it a drag on the freeway. What could you expect though? Super gorgeous bike though.
I really want one too for my second bike but I fear the extra lean
@@gabriellangford2730 I love the lean! First bike for me (but I've had a few dirtbikes). Not crazy about it on wide open highways, but it's an absolute blast on windy scenic routes, 90% because of the leaning.
Does anyone (or Chase) know how much the First Ride ticket knocks off when buying a bike from Mountain Motorsports?
chase, the sv650 is a twin, but its a Vtwin, not a parallel. Thats also why it would feel different to the Ninja
Love the Cafe style hate the ergonomics. I give the X a 5 but the standard SV would get a 7.
Not as rewarding as 2 other bikes that cost 2x as much?? Dang, if only my 350z hugged the road like a Supra
Watching both videos back to back, seems like you had more fun with the Ninja, on what seems a much colder day, or time of day, and damp roads, so it's weird how you would choose this over that.
he only likes this garbage suzuki because of nostalgia. no sane person would ever choose this over the honda or kawi 650s. unless as a beginner bike like chase did
@DonC well you’re wrong. I’m no beginner and I chose this over the Honda and kawi. Looks way cooler, plus I’m a Suzuki rider.
@@DonC23 the sv650 is a bullet proof platform, anything but garbage.
I’ve always watched these videos and I was just kinda like eh it’s just a review video and it’s probably not that accurate. But seeing this one on my own bike I was like wow that’s exactly how I feel for the 12500 miles I’ve put on my 2018 sv650,. The normal sv650 has a more conformable bar situation, but the seat on the X is way better
Can you review Honda 650r wondering how it will compare to Suzuki
Can the parallel twin handle the highway? Still don’t know because that has a v-twin
Amazing review. You touched on many of my concerns with this bike. I love the look and the spec, but I'm a joy-ride-in-the-country-side kinda guy. The riding position might be a deal-breaker for me if it's so race-oriented that I cannot comfortably enjoy the view. I might just get the vanilla SV650, that chocolate-coloured seat and sexy front fairing though....
it's not race oriented, this guy is way off on this review
@@dasboot9471 i know you didnt call Chase “this guy” hes no genius but he is NOT just “this guy”
@@jimsquabblecock8395 your name is great guy
Did you ride on Tuesday chase it was 70 degrees and now it's raining on Wednesday.
X model definitely has a different handlebar set up than my 2018 SV650. It just looks different. Maybe I am crazy.
Trained for my full UK licence on a 2017 SV650 so has a special place in my heart. Fantastic all rounder and so easy to ride. The X is a Friday night bike and based on the observations in your excellent reviews, it doesn't seem to have the all round capabilities of the Ninja 650 or the CBR650R.
Parallel twin engines generally aren't great IF they don't have a 270 degree crank, which makes them mimic a V-Twin. FYI 5k is where peak torque starts apparently, if someone hasn't mentioned it already.
No better way to warm up than riding a naked SV in the cold lol!
Bro, throttle by cable has to be adjusted. That's the way it is on literally every throttle by cable bike.
yeah mine had tonnes of slack out of the dealership. Takes 10 seconds to get perfect though.
@@SirSpinalColumn Yep. Wish chase would do some more due diligence for these reviews.
noobasdfjkl he’s an entertaining rider. Dude sucks with anything even remotely mechanical though lol
I love when he said " O.o Where is the shifter " OTFL
You basically said the opposite of every other review I've seen 🥴.
I own this bike and its a very unique middleweight naked, maybe the most unique for its prize. About the highway, i find it not that bad, since that bikini fairing does some minor difference and because of the clip ons you are allowed to duck more. Its 2 cylinder tho, so dont have very high expectations on the highway.
Outro Score: 8
Not perfect by any means, but with the brake upgrade this bike got in 2019, as well as being way cheaper than the overpriced CBR, but having way more power (10hp on the dyno), this one is a no-brainer between the three.
noobasdfjkl what, the cbr650r has 90 hp, no?
This bike really looks good especially for a Suzuki
I think it looks kinda unfinished.Still could be my next bike though.....
Wired feeling while leaning?
Tire pressure.
That discount code knocks off 10%!!!!!!!!! It's LIT
Did you actually use it?! If so which bike did you end up grabbing?
chaseontwowheels I’m about to get this Ruroc Atlas 2.0 in Raw Carbon when I get paid, so it’s in my cart right now!!
So the Ruroc code knocks off 10%? Chase, how much does your Mountain Motorsports First Ride ticket knock off?
Throttle adjustment takes 30 seconds to remove the slop. You can find the procedure on......UA-cam. ; )
Please review the 2020 .Honda NC750 DCT if you get a chance. It’s been called a dream daily commuter motorcycle. Would be awesome if you can test ride it for the channel Chase!
My 2017 sv 650 is very upright.
what helmet are you wearing in this video?
Chase your helmet look cool dude ☺☺☺☺
This is the SV that I would make if the ex didn't exist. It's actually makes me want one. I've been away from riding for a while in my last bike was the MT-10 so this would be a big difference but for casual cruising maybe something that would keep me out of a lot less trouble seems perfect
Chase, shouldn't MT-07 be a part of this comparison with its 689 engine, ad similar pricing it's a machine i would consider if i was looking for something with 650 displacement.
I’d add the Ducati Monster 797 too, given that it has similar performance
Bike looks good except the front head light and turn signals and it looks like it could use a lil more hp and tourqe
I have the Honda cb650f basically same engine of the tomorrow review , I can't wait to see it

@@mrsmagik1680 so far. Windshield, gear indicator, Frame Sliders and the fender eliminator kit
Chase the preload is too soft in the rear. The geometry is bias to the rear. So the more weight you have in the rear the heavier the steering will feel. I have a picture I can send you but I need an email address so you can see the marking I outlined. It will be easier to understand.
NinjaStorm have social media to show? I’m curious to see this
Chase how tall are you?
Outro Crew Rating: 5/10. Looks are just okay, ergo is way too leaned over for me, don't think I'd personally buy one.
was bike run in ?
When Suzuki went from the gen 2 to the gen 3 SV650 they made the rear wheel wider, but used the same size tire (160), when it really should be a 170. One of the British bike mags swapped the rear tire to a wider one and they said it transformed the bike. I have a 2017 SV650 and I"m very curious to try the wider rear tire, as my impression is that it's weird leaned over as well. I'm a newer rider so my opinion doesn't mean much, but between the data and shared observations it would be a cool to compare. Cheers.
So did you ever get to fit a wider rear on your SV650? If so, what's it like? Looking at putting a 170 Metzeler Sportec M9rr on mine.
Unfortunately I haven't had the chance to try it yet. In the fall I had the chance to ride the new Yamaha Mt-09, and it was amazing. I really love my little SV650 but it just doesn't fit me. I'm 6'1" and about 250lbs. The angles of the handlebar and the foot to gear lever are hard on me. I've spent a lot of time adjusting everything but different bars and a taller seat are what I need. So by the time I put new bar on, new tires, new seat, new this new that, I could just get into a bike that fits better. The power of the MT-09 was really nice, but it was the ergo for me that sold me. So I'm working on trading in my SV650 for one. I still wish I couldn't tried the tire experiment though, I hope it works out for you. Cheers.

@@zachbuckley4842 awesome. Enjoy that marvelous 3 cyl. I enjoyed the hell out of that engine on a Tracer 9GT once in the german twisties.
@@bhok1971 I don't know if you ever tried the wider rear, but I just put on a new set of Dunlops with the 170 rear. It's massively better. The front and rear feel cohesive like they are finally turning together instead of taking two different paths through a corner. The bike takes and stays on a line through corners now. The steering feel is much better and more balanced, and the low speed corners and parking lot stuff also feels better, more balanced, and controllable. I wish I'd gone to the 170 rear ages ago.
@@zachbuckley4842 I actually just fitted a 180 a month ago (RoadSmart 4) and also experience everything you stated. Very nice. It measures at exactly 170mm wide though, because of the slight pinch on the 5" rim. Did you also fit a RoadSmart?
