Hi LSV, just wanted to say thanks for including a bummer draft LOL. I have been on a bit of a skid lately and it was reassuring to see that sometimes things don't work out for you too. On that note, it would be cool to hear about how you analyze/grow from a bad draft? They can't all be winners I guess. Anyways big fan of your work!
If you go into a draft blind and aren’t the most experienced player I can totally imagine wanting to stack up all the packs for a nice reading session.
Am I weird for finding Voyaging Satyr far more important in 5c Gates? Not just the ramp, but being able to tap for the colors I draw each turn seem to be on a par with decent removal on my pick list (not passing a bomb or Ob Nixilis Cruelty or anything like that).
Genuinely really liked pioneers masters draft! I’m not a huge fan of standard draft at this point I’m ngl, too many new things, but this was so familiar in a lot of ways that I was so excited watching GATE turbo get the win!
@1:13:20 I haven't properly thought this line through but is there any merit to playing the mystic and passing with Ultimate Price up? Then on the opponent's turn, LSV can ultimate price something, get a bird, and then cast Rapid Hybridization on his own bird before the forced sacrifice resolves, leaving him with Mystic and a 3/3 if he sacrifices the second bird. I don't know what butcher does so maybe it makes this moot.
Well at the very least, Hybridization on his own Mystic at 1:14:20 and sacrificing the bird with the intent to trade off is much better than giving the opponent an extra 3/3.
I timeout the packs because I have very little gems, I play maybe one draft every 10 days. I don't know the sets very well, and I need every upside I can get. So I use this time to read carefully the remaining cards, or to ponder what my deck needs the most at the moment, regardless of what pick I locked, to save time on the next packs. I can estimate the 3 top candidates in a couple of seconds based on my knowledge of drafting and previous sets, but I still use all my time, because I can't afford to mess up the draft. I am NOT watching TV, I am very focused on my deck. Sorry.
Hey LSV, I've always wondered what's in your personal card collection. I imagine it's pretty amazing, but I'm curious too, do you still collect physical cards or build decks for fun anymore?
The set is super new so I would give people the benefit of the doubt that they're just reading the cards. I know it's a reprint set but not everyone plays as much MTG as the hardcore among us :)
@@nickk6556 Absolutly. But this happens in every format and independently on first week or last week of its tour. Could of course still be that it is a new player every single time, but I dont think so. I think it is people not thinking of other people. Because if it is players new to the cards, why are the timing so precise? If you see player draft new sets afk, you see the packs cue up in the beginning, but the last 6 picks of every pack are fast, you read the card once etc. But these players time out every pack.
Twice I had to leave drafts immediately after starting them because of kid dental emergencies. Never did better than 1-3 with the random piles I ended up with.
Gatea seems fun, but so unreliable... Yes there's Ram, Angel, Gates Ablaze, Colossus and the draw enchantment at uncommon and the -2/-2 and the draw four drops as commons for payoffs, yet somehow I see so few people having more than 2 or 3 of the keys uncommon at a pod, and the color inconsistencies in a format that has very powerful synergistic decks doesn't make it worth it imo.
You mentioned having a few trouphied drafts off camera before this. Imo you should record the gameplay whenever you are playing. And only save it out when you have an awesome run. Then if you ever need content you can pull up a couple of those and record your commentary of your play in some of your best off camera runs. Thinking about it, might be too editing expensive compared to just doing a new run on camera and saving the vod. But would be cool to be able to show off more winning runs.
@LSVargas oh duh, I always forget playing on the phone exists because I never do it. The runs will have to go unseen then. Thanks for the reply, love the content, and congrats on the twins.

going into pack 2 with a 5 gate! what is this, broodwar
You must construct additional pylons!
Proxy 5 gate is just so cheesy
I understood that reference
Deep cuts
Thanks LSV. This is always amazing! I watch your content nearly everyday! Favorite MTG content maker.

You must have never watched Paul's videos. He always lets the rope timeout during the draft and has all the packs on him.
Yeah, but that's because he's talking a lot. I have to imagine off camera he probably drafts a bit faster.
59:15 that is Legolas! Playing against a lord of the rings fan I suppose. Great games, hope your family is well!
That Dictate of Erebos deck was sick
Gotta think that last opponent wanted to awaken his bounce spells but messed it up.
Crazy, so fun watching the matchea

That opponent with the sac deck, woah.

watching you makes me feel like playing magic
Relating to the last game: He can't keep getting away with it!!!
“gaters gonna gate”

lsv trolls the table taking all the fixing
If gates is open it has been getting me trophies. Also selesnya hexproof auras has been insane.
Bogles is always fun
I kind of wish this format had Glaive of the Guildpact as well.
Drink whenever he says "gate"
37:00 For sure. Same people probably making everyone wait in the extra queue Wizards for some unknown reason put in to click "ready".

Rescue exiles, so you can use it with a Whipped creature and you'll get it back next turn.
Are you worried at all about having too few creatures in the deck?
Pillarfield Ox that cantrips if you have 2 Gates. Gates is open!
The Microsoft Windows cadence of win/loss.

Just explaining a possible reason for decks getting stuck on one player.

Often the people that are holding all the packs, are just disconnected or cannot play i.e. because the kid woke up that should've been sleeping :)

Too bad about the first deck. It seemed pretty sweet :(

@@LSVargas You must have eagle eyes. How is it possible??? I play on my tablet but phone is crazy.
UwU sar Gatekeepers
Reid got crushed with his gates deck… seems not good…
never play gates unless you open a Ram
I bet he appreciates the advice of a bronze rank player especially horrible advice like that
