I went from an Accuforce V2 to the VRS and I'm very happy with the change. The Accuforce is a good product but there is too much software manipulation required in order to dial in the wheel base. I expect this is because the software is making up for the shortfalls of the stepper motor. My favourite thing about the VRS wheel base is I've never even had to use their software. I turned it on, I hop in a car and it just feels good. Occasionally I'll tweak the strength of the wheel in game depending on the car but that's just using the RF2 or Iracing software.
    Overall it's a great product.

    Another great video. Thank you.
I started with the Fanatec CSL Elite and because I had already some wheels I upgraded to the DD2. It works great. I don't have any issues but as you said the QR is not very quick. When I bought the GSI wheel I had my first "problem. I bought the expansive Podium Hub and had some EMI issues. So I grounded the base and plugged a USB EMI filter between wheel and USB hub. Problem solved!
When you reach a certain point in Sim Racing and want more than the Fanatec wheels you're not so flexible like with VRS or Simucube. It is possible but not as smooth. I never thought I would pay 1.000 € for a wheel but things change. Other people will be happy in the Fanatec eco system and won't need GSI, Cube Control, Heusinkveld, Wave Italy, ... Back then it made total sense to buy the Fanatec equipment but now I would make other decisions. To be fair, my budget would also be another! I will keep my DD2 and Porsche wheel but the V3 pedals will be replaced this or next year.

Just got a DD1, zero play from the shaft, QR stays in place no problem (use DEFAULT for the base ITM otherwise you'll get the knocking sometimes, whobreads the DD1 screen anyway?), the software works like a charm and you can find TONS of support/presets/guides online for any Fanatec product. 4,5 stars out of 5.

Excellent review(s)! I'm the proud owner of a SC2pro R1 (batch 2 buyer) and I haven't tried any other system. But I'm perfectly happy with the overall quality of the product and the two wheels I use (Simulaje F1S USB and Ascher 16 wireless on an OMP Quadra rim: not a bit of plastic on those!)

I bought a VRS DFP a few months ago, mainly because of your video. Now I read that you prefer the SC2 over VRS, even Simagic. Could you briefly explain why? I've already read that it's due to updates, but what exactly has changed? Is it about the setting options or is the general feeling better with the SC2? I am currently considering whether I should sell the VRS DFP and switch to SC2 after all.

Does anyone has any experience with the Bodnar V2 and any of the latest top end motors like the DD2 and SC2 Pro/Ultimate and cares to describe how they compare FEEL wise? Mmos has "kicking" feeling when driving, OpenFFB feels really natural and fast because you can turn off Every filter, Vnm feels very noisy and weird to me, but other people like it over mmos. But again this is purely diy market :)

The CSL DD is definitely not on par with the DD1, VRS or simucube. I own a VRS, I sold my DD1 and I gave the simucube sport to my son. I've tried out the CSL DD and it's missing some of the finer details for sure. The DD1/DD2 have a numb feeling and this notchiness but I didn't notice the notchy grainy feeling until I ran the simucube 2 sport and it's no big deal but the lack of detail in the DD1 led me to want more so I went with the SC2 sport and it's better by a good margin imo. I had the opportunity to preorder the VRS and I did so figuring that I'd probably sell it or give it to one of my boys. I was shocked that it was so much better than the SC2 and DD1. I can feel texture in the road now but the big thing is I can feel the front tires lock up, ABS engage and I can feel overall grip in the front so much better than the SC2. Now I haven't tried the Pro or ultimate SC2 but my understanding is that they use the same software and have the same feel just with more power on tap. Couldn't tell ya for sure, just what I've heard from a few people who've used them. I have used the SC2 sport, DD1, CSL DD and VRS quite a bit tho. The sport, like the DD1 and VRS has plenty of power. 15-20nm is enough although 15nm is just so at times. Get the VRS, it was better than simucube when the VRS was new and it's gotten even better with the improvements VRS has made. I do not miss anything about the SC2 or DD1 and I'd not go back. If it cost more than those bases I'd still recommend it but it's significantly less. It's the 1st wheel base I've owned that I do not desire to replace with something better.

You probably like the VRS most because of the “rawness” you kept mentioning. I am thinking that is likely due to the lack of filtering in the more basic software. The other two have much more mature software as you said, but because of that software it is like you are getting the feeling of someone else’s preferences when the software developer makes their various settings in the software.

But logically, why would Dan be biased against both wheelbases that he owns, which are more expensive and he could easily sell either one to buy a VRS if he wanted to? Doesn’t add up...the SC2 doesn’t have to be the best at everything you know lol.
Plus, there’s something to be said for simplicity. On the flip side, The VRS can be smoothed out quite easily and it does this will only 1 or 2 sliders.

@@johndough247 did you actually read what i wrote? -) "sound biased about one feature", whitch for me is quite strange, since vrs is pretty much what semicube1 was, just different controller. • @johndough247
      @johndough247 3 роки тому

@@hija01 I did read it. You accused Dan of being biased, whether it's against "one feature" or everything, you're basically challenging the validity of his review over something you, in your own words, "assume" and "believe" could be replicated (i.e. you don't have proof it can actually be replicated). For all we know, part of why they switched to an in-house motor was to have less of that rawness at the hardware level. Also, Dan himself said he tried it and it didn't help.
Besides, evolution doesn't always mean "keep everything from v1 and add more features", but can mean "remove the things we don't like from v1 (raw feel) and add the features we want". That was my point about the SC2 not being "the best at everything"; with "best" being the subjective term here...maybe that's by design.

    • @aplanedividedthesky

@@ranakirti The McLaren V2 is a REPLICA of a GT3. And by replica, I mean the construction is plastic-is-fantastic, rather than actual carbon fiber. And it does feel like that: just a replica.
On the other hand, the Radical is a real racing wheel rim (albeit from what seems to be small formula cars), with a button box on it manufactured by SRC. The wheel rim is from another third party vendor, whose name I can't recall... but my guess was that it was a small vendor of real racing wheels.
Personally, I find it comfortable, although in terms of absolute comfort, I'd give the edge to the Fanatec. That's mostly down to the button box design in the SRC, which has sharper edges, and on a couple of occasions, I had my thumb hitting the edge of the box, which hurt a bit. The McLaren on the other hand has a center section with round edges, so you never really feel anything pinching your thumb. But that's all about it.
What must be said is that the SRC feels STURDY. Coupled with the SC2, there's ZERO flex, which adds to immersion... it feels like you're really driving a car! The same cannot be said of the McLaren V2 wheel, it always felt videogame-ish.
All this is highly subjective, but personally I would never go back to Fanatec gear. Perhaps, if I had to choose again today, I would've gone for another wheel with a better button box design (especially a box with a funky switch, which I very much miss here), but this is not something that keeps me from sleeping at night --> not even planning to replace the wheel with another one, so all this is a minor nuisance in the end.
