I use trackers for my main music composing. I only prototype the songs in FL Studio. Because I also do game dev and I appreciate music formats that play back in real time, they have a different, more raw quality to them than today's hyper-polished OGG soundtracks even for indie games.
Yeah and all because the guys that build the amiga said.. who needs a synth chip. Let us do just 4 digital sample channels so you can use every sample you want as an instrument. Thats also why the amiga sounds so different than any other computer of its time. The PC took this over when the soundblaster came out. But they only used it a short periot of time because in the mid 90s you got more and more ram and complete Songs could be played digital (as we have it today) so no need of tracked samples. One PC game that still used it very late was Unreal tournament btw.
That's not how it works though. It was simply one of the more capable consumer grade machines of its time. Pretending that anything Commodore made was "ahead of its time" frankly requires a notable amount of ignorance of computer history, unless you are talking only about the context of consumer-grade computers (which you did not specify).
well for a computer made in 1985 it was still a very different approach on the "sound" topic. No other pc could do what the amiga did in 1985. Maybe beside silicon gfx. Even the 16bit ara Apple couldnt do this. So it was indeed something special. And dont forget the amiga was also cheap. The first PC card that could do sample songs was the soundblaster in 1989. Of course you could buy digital and also very expensive studio samplers and operate them via Midi. But thats another story when we just talk about computers and mixing at home. For direct Midi the Atari ST was unbeatable in the 90s. Thats why most Studios had the Atari as a DAW at the end of the 80s and in the early 90s@@awesomeferret

Pretty simple, really. Even I, not a musician, can use Protracker.
