Star snowboarder Hirano Ayumu landed the first triple cork in the history of halfpipe competition in 2021. In Beijing 2022, the 23-year-old became the first Japanese athlete to win Olympic snowboarding gold, and also the first athlete from his country to medal at three consecutive Winter Games. But the road to the top was a lonely one.

Lonely ?...you must be joking .. It's called dedication and motivation .. it's an individual sport .. Nothing lonely about it at all ...you have your coaches and medical advisors .. how can you feel lonely?
There's no competition if you are at the top and no one can surpass you!!
That's why it's lonely cause there's no motivation to push yourself if your are the best already

I know , I'm an ex international speed skater , held national records , skated world championships and qualified for the winter Olympic games ..lonely ? lol ..no way but I was a loner with a goal and some support from directions unexpected ..Again , it's just a state of mind you have to deal with .No offence .. but that's how it is .
He meant that standing at the top you're on your own up there - nobody else can share the same joy, fear or going through the same struggle to get up there and trying to stay up there is harder ...
