So, from this definition, if a raincoat provide enough to cover the obligated parts, the raincoat is considered hijab. This is all great in theory, it should be up to women, to decide what they wear everyday...
However, the truth is, societal and cultural pressures can twist what guidelines come from religion. Especially in areas of the Middle East, there can be some rather severe punishments if women don't follow what is expected from them, even if God doesn't say so, verbatim.

Yes you're right. In some regions making women wear hijab by force is a bit common.but this is not like beating or punishment stuff... I never heard or seen severe punishments here in middle east for not wearing scarf...I think this is fictional what you say...or Maybe less 1% might be true..
I study at a university and 90% of the women here don't wear hijab. most of them use a traditional piece of cloth called 'dupata' to cover their heads and upper body. No one is forcing them to wear anything more than that.
I myself live here in middle east ... my dad never forced my mom to wear hijab. she always wraps a shawl 'dupata' around her body covering her head and most of the body. but when sometimes it comes off due to wind or any other reason she corrects it herself but if she forgot it my dad simply remonds her and she covers herself again properly. I never saw them fight ever on this problem.

For us Muslims this is different.for men private part of his body is from chest to knees and for women is from top of the head to the ankles. So when we cover our body we are actually practicing our privacy. Some people who justify few inches of body as private don't have the right to judge others on their own standards which they created for their own pleasure and are trying to normalise it everywhere.

Yes, thank you Amel. May Allah swt bring more people like you. I have also commented that above I hope the authors of this video read it and correct it.
yes there is. Allah swt says:

      He Swt also said :
      يَا أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ قُل لِّأَزْوَاجِكَ وَبَنَاتِكَ وَنِسَاء الْمُؤْمِنِينَ يُدْنِينَ عَلَيْهِنَّ مِن جَلَابِيبِهِنَّ
      And Hadith said:
And Allah swt said In Quran that we must take what the prophet says in the Hadith as well. Not doing so is disbelieving in Quran.

I agree that it is ultimately the woman’s choice, but you’re discounting or naive to societal and spousal pressure in some countries removing that choice.
A couple places I’ve been to like Kuwait and some parts of Iraq didn’t seem to have a big concern about it. However, in Afghanistan they’re expected to show nothing to the point of having netting over the eye slits, and even curled up into a little ball if we walked by.
Women’s rights vary greatly in the ME. I could freely converse with most women in Kuwait, but get scowls from Iraqi husbands if we talked to the wife while he was coming to the door of their house.
Before anyone makes any accusations; we never said a cross word or leered.

I remember when I went to Afghanistan with my mom because she was visiting family, everytime we went out she would wear a long niqab with only slit of her eyes showing and it was still sheer see through fabric for the eyes.
But many women also choose to wear it that way because it helps with keeping the dust out of there eyes from their face.
It really comes down to how open your family is to interpretation and if they raise you to always wear niqab style or hijab style. When at home and with other families, she just wore a head scarf but it was only when going outside to bazaar did she wear a long niqab going to the ankles and covering everything.
But it’s true, it’s sad to see Islam not being practiced properly in the Middle East and Afghanistan because they (men/toxic self-claimed Muslims) use gods name to get their way and oppress women.
