I got my ID stolen, and I ran my own sting along with the helpful people at my local ATT store. They used a sim-jack technique where they went to ATT and got a replacement SIM card so they could steal all my email/login info via 2-factor authentication. They ask for password reset, it asks my phone if it's me (they have my SIM so they get the message, not me). They also went to the post office and asked for mail to be stopped. They were picking up the new credit cards they applied for directly at the post office.
Ok, so we caught the guy. Detectives had him dead to rights. ATM receipts, photos, drugs, and he was on parole for breaking and entering. He pleaded guilty. He got ZERO time. ZERO TIME.
This is why they continue to do this.

I see these scenarios all the time. When I was a cop i seen it a lot sadly, but in the last 20 years it happens more and more yet people seem to not learn. First off, who does not keep their wallet on them? Now, women like to do things like leave their purse laying around in shopping carts etc. But us men... I don't get it. All my business paperwork, like checks (if we used them), stays locked up, even in my vehicle. It's truly a bad time in this world when we have to take so many steps to secure every dang thing constantly. I haven't locked the doors to my house in 10 years, but i do live a bit out in the country and folks know we have plenty of land to hide bodies.

    • @wizzlefits
      @wizzlefits 2 роки тому +1

I would leave my wallet/personal items in my work vehicle all the time. That's because of the type of work I did. But, they were well hidden. There were also times that my helper would spend more time guarding the truck than helping. Usually, after they learned that any theft attempt would not involve police, they'd quickly back off.

I enjoyed your video on this, and as excited as you are about the potential jail time, make sure you keep an eye on the proceedings. I worked retail security 13 years, 12 were with Cameras (started in 1983, long before cameras in retail was a thing). Over the years myself and coworkers arrested or turned over around 4-500 people. Many that were stealing from us, were also tied to cases like yours, and with our video (keep in mind this was 38 years ago) the Police became good partners with us. Also helped I had a off duty Sheriff Deputy and two Police officers that worked with me. We broke some large rings that worked in a 100 mile radius of us, and I can say, watch the court proceedings. After I lost a case (very rare) because the person made the judge feel bad for them) I attended ANY related hearings after that to make sure never happened again. One theft ring actually had a lawyer on retainer, who helped them get released quickly when caught. Good luck, and I will watch for what happens with your case, hopefully bad enough to warrant the full sentence.

I just got out of a meeting with attorneys and prosecutor for a check grift case, My business checkbook was stolen out of my truck during dinner (and a few other things, gas card, etc. It literally happened the day before you posted your first video about the backpack. I got to talk to the prosecutor and told her I know I will never get my money back but I do want my time it took to earn that money. I told her that kid, (a 19 year old and a 20 year old with a baby) that they should do community service and work for me until the amount owed is repaid. I have no lack of work, thats for sure. Its unorthodox but for now they are both in jail. At some point all we have is our hands right? I say put them to use.

In France we have exactly the same problem with crime which has exploded in 15 or 20 years but on closer inspection we come to believe that the authorities are directly responsible and like to organize chaos on purpose, just like uncontrolled immigration. and drug trafficking, for them, these are only "deals" that bring in a lot of money.

Thieves are quite stupid but can sadly rely on people being lazy, leaving doors unlocked, keys in the ignition and even the engine running. In your case you had spent time clearly packing valuables in your vehicle and then went indoors and out of sight, even though one push on your key fob would have locked it. I also saw you had a trailer stolen. Most stolen goods are fenced but fences hate anything that can be easily identified and where the effort of removing this will make it unsellable. Sadly speaking from the voice of experience.

    • @drewrbunn

Man I truly feel sorry for you and I know first hand how it feels. I had a couple of meth heads break into our place 2 weeks ago and cleaned out all the hunting, fishing, RV and camping stuff we had. They got access to medical records, bank statements, taxes. The hardest part is you have to remember exactly where everything was sitting to figure out exactly what was stolen. Best advice is to start making lists and add to it every time you remember something.
    1. What was taken?
    2. Where did you buy it?
    3. When did you buy it?
    4. How much did you pay for it?
    5. Any Receipts, Pictures or Videos
    6. How much would it cost today to replace that item new vs used?
    7. Pray, pray you keep your sanity and pray for strength to make it through this rough time. And maybe pray along the way for some of that sweet sweet justice.

So sorry to see this Stan! Boy we have had our share of being ripped off! We have a home on a vacation island and health issues plus other vital reasons kept us from coming back for 2 years. My twin passed away from ALS as we started getting our home ready to move back into full time during Covid. Ok so fast forward, 5 flat bed trucks left our home full of ruined belongings, they had broken in and stolen dumb stuff! Kitchen items and few others....then left the back door open. I had asked someone to help me out and keep an eye on it...they DIDN'T. So then we came to a gross house that had been taken over by rats and mice which a different friend helped me get rid of! Only saving grace is that we have a solid wood home! No drywall in the outer shell so no issues there. The cleaning up of a two story home was insane! All our furniture, clothing and possessions for the most part....garbage! Fast forward to a beautifully restored home we freshly painted with our adult kids helping...man what we have done! People drive by just to see it now! In my youth, I had a tax return check stolen from my mail...a man tried to cash it at a bar~ They caught him and returned it to me....no loss for me but he went to jail...imagine a guy trying to cash a Romy first name on it check with no id? My name alone arose suspicion!

In Chicago there’s been over 2000 Carjackings to date. Absolutely ridiculous how crime has increased in all these big cities.

I had a truck stolen once with a checkbook inside. I had police reports in many cities from stolen check and nothing happened. I laughed at the sheriff deputies as I walked the guy responsible for it all through the door and into their custody.

Sorry that was long on my prior message and this has been so awful for you Stan! First thing I did before I moved back in knowing of the theft on this so called safe island? I put a high tech camera on my porch! My lay out prevents them getting in without that recording and we can talk to them on it. We are adding them on all perimeters! I don't leave anything to chance and always told hubby this could happen. He brought up his perimeter plan to me! Yep folks need to get on board! Lets catch crooks all over! My hubby had a lap top stolen while loading our car a decade ago at a hotel...only takes a minute!!!

It's great to here they cought this women. I had something similar happen to me some years back where my ID was stolen by an ex employee. Once the police did ketch her she had convinced an attorney she was the one that had her ID stolen. To make a long story short her attorney was able to convince a judge she was the victim. This caused years of going back and forth to court. Twelve years later and more than $50k out of my pocket she finally went to prison.

Dang @Stan… hate to hear this happened to you. Or anyone else for that matter. Hopefully they/she gets what’s coming but unfortunately if its like many other places, it’ll get amended down to “Fishing without a license “ or some other slap on the wrist charge. I got in law enforcement back in the mid 90’s.. and they’re still chasing the same crooks today that we were back then.. plus their kids now.. it’s a never ending circle.. Good video brother!! Stay blessed!!

Identity theft is such a huge pain to deal with I can see why they rank it as a high crime but the courts don't punish them like they should be now days. I think the courts should let the victims choose and Cary out the punishment on these criminals if found guilty in a court of law. It'd probably cut down the crime rates.
