My XR18 has given me so much bang for buck, and I still love the tiny form factor. As everyone else has mentioned, get an external router - using only the internal one will burn you sooner or later. Mixing Station is so much better than the iPad app - and is available on Android & iOS. And it *is* the same app across X32 and XR lines. Slightly less pretty, but more comprehensive and utterly configurable.
This box is a God-send. Our church bought this box a few months before the lock down, not knowing what would come ahead of us. We were planning on using it for youth meetings etc, but we ended up using it for Drive-In-Curch in a parking lot at a school, and later for church services outside in a cherry orchard (beautiful location in a valley between mountains). It made it possible for us to have church through the spring, summer and fall. Every Sunday, two services back-to-back, max 50 people, and live streaming. The negative is, like others have noted: the built-in router. Not very strong or sensitive, and if there are other wifi networks around or a radio noisy environment around, it cuts out. So we plugged it into a little Apple Airport Express and set that router up as a local wifi network access point, that worked perfectly. Cudos to Behringer for making such an awesome product!
I totally agree. I only used the on-board router for the first week I got my XR-18. Then I got a cheap little $30.00 Netgear tri-band and it always works great. Once you set it up, it always works and it is no hassle at all.
Had to learn this the hard way😅. We were on a small open air worship session with the xr18 and the pastor had no better idea than telling the audience to send a message to their loved ones with their phones🤦🏼♂️. I was sitting there, looking at my iPad slowly losing the signal and never found it again.
I found that out on the first and last time I used one. So much cellphone radiation that we lost our connection to the box... and of course, there are no sliders or knobs to override anything. We were dead. I wasn't going to buy an external router and lug around more equipment, so on the way home we stopped at a Guitar Center and purchased a mixer that had real wireless plus powered sliders. Note: When it worked, in rehearsal, it was great. Drop that useless Behringer software, and buy Mixing Station Pro, which is well worth the $6.
I've been running this for a few years now with my band, and it's been awesome. We have it in a small rack case with a furman and an external router, and it's about as plug and play as you can get. We have all our regular venues saved in the settings, and setting up almost exactly the same everywhere, helps with load in/out times. If we play a new place, I can just judge which of our regular venues is the closest match, load that setting, and I have a place to start from, making set up and sound check so much easier. It's honestly life changing in terms of small gigging bands. The investment upfront, with powered speakers and monitors, is pretty steep of course, but reliablily, ease of use, quality of sound, and simplicity is worth it. Seriously. Buy a rack that matches (stacks) with your inear case, and mount any old 5g router into the back of it...... You're golden.
The ipad app is a bit different. I went to the app called Mixing Station . It is much more familiar if you've used the X/M32 boards. Mixing Station is also a bit more customizable. Get even a cheap router. If you get into a church with a wireless access points, it will over power the 2.4 ghz radio that is built into the XR18. With an outboard router, you get the 5 Ghz bands AND you can setup security so people don't try to take over your network while mixing. I use my XR18 for everything from djing to small bands and speaking gigs.
Even though I prefer using real faders and encoders over a touch interface any day of the week, you just can’t argue with how practical this little thing is. I’ve used one for smaller gigs quite a bit and I agree: it’s amazing how much you get for so little money. Traditional analog mixers with 12-24 channels lack all the features that you would need for a more refined sound (for example EQ for tuning the PA to the room anyone???). You get up to four effects to give your band the kind of character it’s supposed to have. And since you’ll usually be using this on smaller stages, you pretty much don’t need DI boxes anymore. Band shows up and tells you "oh there’s that one song where we actually have another acoustic guitar and we forgot to tell you that"? No problem. Plug it right in, no need for a spare DI box. Great stuff. Physical faders are still the way to go for me and 18 channels is pushing what you can reasonably control with a single touch device (even though of course you can connect multiple devices at once and that way get faster access to multiple parts of the mixer). Also the XR line does not have input and output delays. So anything more complex setup will be reserved to higher end mixers. But... come on. For normal small scale setups, you just can’t beat this thing’s value!
Using the X Touch Universal myself. I use a laptop and tablet too. Each has their purpose. The laptop allows much faster adjusting of fx, eq, etc... than the X-Touch. Of course, the tablet allows me to walk about the chapel or go to the stage and help make IEM mixes or troubleshoot. I personally just wished they had a XR24. X32 is more than what I need.
I used xr18 for three years. Since 3 years switched to X32 rack + SD16, giving me 40 in / 16 out. Great for inear monitoring. But I kept the XR18 as backup and for small events.
Purchased this a few years ago for an acoustic band and absolutely love it. We purchased a separate router to provide a more stable connection to the iPad. The router also allows us to hard-wire a laptop to the system in case the iPad struggles to connect.
POWERED SPEAKERS AND AN EXTERNAL ROUTER are your best adds for the XR18. My church uses an old passive speaker/analog amplifier combo with it, and hiss issues have been a pain. The learning curve on using the onboard effects (SO MANY!!! 😁) was a little steep, but I’m finally getting the hang of it. Behringer made a monster. I see why the X AIR series has been on the market so long.
I've been using an xr18 as my "pre-amp" for my home audio system (8 channels from a computer) and a rack of Crown amps for close to 4 years. It works great! The other channels I use for other audio sources.
Our church uses this for our youth setup and mobile church like church in the park and/or future daughter works :) such an incredible bang for the buck. Only thing to keep an eye on is the WiFi hotspot goes once in a while so a dedicated router is ideal for ipad or just plugged direct in with a laptop. Also..nice slapping bro!
We always carry a laptop in a hardshell plano box, just in case of wifi or software failure. Initial set up of channels (if using for the same band all the time) is much better with the laptop as well.
I used my windows laptop to set up all the EQs etc - this enabled me to use high pass filters on the vocals and acoustics. They remained visible on the iPad although not editable re hi pass filter. Superb sound linked to our Bose Pro 16 - no monitors needed - what a difference the XR18 made!!!
I have been working with a Xair 12 since 4 years and i love it

At our church we use a Soundcraft UI24r in the back of the room we have a pc that manage streaming, we add a touch monitor 22" and we manage the mixer like a console!
I've been using it as our main mixer in church for a few years now. We've outgrown it (not enough I/O's) so I am considering the X32 Rack. The XR18 was easy for this "old mind" to get a hold of and transition from our analog mixer. I also have the X Touch Universal hooked up to it for the the "old feel" sliders. It's a great portable or stationary mixer! I do use a "real" router for wireless connections to tablets and cell phones for in ear mixes. You mention the "app". I am using the one from Behringer for the PC and everyone is using Android apps and it works great.
Great mixer/interface but i went with the x-touch controller over the ipad as the wifi can be a bit hit and miss...you'd really need a separate router for a better signal in a live setting
I have been using bulky digital mixers since they sold 20MB HDDs. I am a basement producer and this unit is compact and perfect for my synthesizer setup. Caution: Effects, routing and connectivity will take time to master, not to setup. No joke, you WILL have to learn something new. This unit is not for computer illiterates. I bought it as an audio patchbay and I love it. I want V2.
I am helping with the sound system of a little church and this video opens my mind to the possibility of them buying at least the xr12... Nice video btw.
I don't think no one is taking about this tho.... There's an active community for this. There's even a 3rd party app for controlling the mixer and David, the developer is very active in his group. I've been using mine for almost a year, we even use it for live streaming
Awesome video, thanks for sharing. I would just like to make two comments concerning this product. I use the table top version of this unit, it is almost identical, (the aux outs are 1/4" instead of XLR). First comment concerns the use of a router. I HIGHLY recommend you use one. Also, configure it so that it cannot be seen by people's cell phones. This will help to ensure your ipad stays connected to the X18. The app will also function better with an external router. The second comment has to do with the function of this unit. It is actually capable of doing some of the more advanced mixing techniques that it's bigger brothers can do. Things like parallel compression and equalization can be done, AND, you can put a multi-band compressor on the main buss if you want. That makes a world of difference on the overall sound if you know how to use one of those. I have been VERY impressed with the X18 that I bought, and I even use it to make multi-track recordings on my laptop of the shows I run sound for. All in all, this is an extremely good piece of gear for the money. Thanks again for making this video, I really enjoyed watching it..!
Hello. I just ordered an XAIR 18. What ipad should I buy so that the old XAIR app works? I saw that there were some problems with the application. Is everything resolved?
I have a fix for the on board router. I got a wifi "detector" find a free channel and switch it on you iPad before turning on the xr18. After you turn on the xr you will have little to no disconnects. God bless and keep you.
i noticed that in other Behringer mixers there is USB output for recordings, here there is USB in, is there anyway you can use that mixer to record your live without using a PC?
I have one of those in the slightly better version Midas MR18 - it is fantastic. Also use the Shure Beta 92A, and Beta 58 vocal microphones. But I think the PC app is better, you really get more with the bigger screen.
Hey. Try using mixing station for this mixer insted of the X air app. It is mutch better. You can control with the mixing station app x Air, X33, Wing and other digital boards. The user interface looks just same on every mixer that mixing station supported.
Are there any typical mistakes XR18 users make? My Daughter got one of these for her musical work and 'I' get to use it a lot. Her band she is with use it for practice night they just plug in their in ears and away they go, quiet practice She was going to get the 16 but her brother talked her into the 18, no regrets. Always get more than you think you need. Excellent little unit for the price. Access point a must for performing.
I have owned the X18-Air, the Xtouch for a few years now. I have 2 matching external routers setup identical one as a spare now. Works great. I talk about my setup all the time. I am thinking of getting the rack mount version as well?
Quick question @Worship Leaders Hangout, can you use in ears from your iPad for monitoring? And can you tweak your own monitor mix from your iPad? Thanks and great video!
It's crazy that they still sell this today but won't undate the app so it will work with an iPad Pro. App just shuts down when you try to get into effects or other features.
@hiyouseemcool while I'm connected to it at church. I don't update my iPad anymore because I don't want to lose any more features. I lost save scene feature on my Samsung Galaxy s23 when my cell phone updated last time, now I have to use a laptop to load scenes because they won't update the app to work when phones or tablets get provider updates.
Oh yeah there is a UA-cam video floating around of a guy who made a midi interface for having a mute button on the unit it could be programmed to do pretty much whatever you want. the Barringer forms has active community as well. And poking around I've read about people making like cough buttons that communicate over Wi-Fi and Bluetooth there's control box with programmable buttons and an Arduino tons of fun stuff you can do with this.
Nice I got this about 3 yrs ago I still recommend it I prefer an external wifi router 2.4ghz only not 5ghz and for my initial church setup I have all check sound with the computer and save it and then work in the tablet any details crazy thing is how much is inside and so small, one question how long has lasted the x32 you guys purchased and if you had any issues with the motors for the faders or any knob repairs ?
Agree....one of the most amazing pieces of gear I've owned. Check out all the effects included.....Can you tell me if you figured out how to chain insert effects on a single channel
Insert is always a single fx per channel. Using the fx busses you can do parallel fx. If you want to do serial, the option would be to loop back the outputs to another input. This will cost you connections though. Another option could be to route a channel that has an inserted fx to an fx bus.
@@skullhqx Thanks Skull...that's what I thought....kind of sucks. Using for some guitar songs it would be nice to make this an alternate pedal board with some chained effects. Parallel it is.... Cheers from Moon Dog.
@@jeffmilkey Well, at least some of the FX units are double, like reverb -and- delay. And you can do the options as I mentioned above. Personally I run synths into the XR18 and they have their own FX or I use multi-pedals, for more hands-on tweaking. I actually do not use the build in FX most of the time.
Wow nice review! We are also planning to get this on our small church, any video about gears and other stuff we need to use to get a better setup with this? Like We want to connect our instruments to this, what we need to do.. thanks Bro..
For your in ears, are you controlling the sound on a separate app? Just wondering how with this system you can have each band member control their own sound. Didn’t see if you had any personal mixers or if you’re doing something different.
Hello there, I am torn between a small-ish analog mixer, and one of these XR18 units. This will be for a small venue where I DJ regularly, and will be used for adding open mic nights and Karaoke to what I do there, as well as possibly being used for some live band situations. The XR18 seems like a great option, as it will take up very little space on stage in this small venue, amd still allow for mixing the FOH sound from out front. Curious, some devices I currently use output on XLR, as a balanced line output, similar to the outputs on this unit. Can those balanced XLR line outs be plugged i to the XLR inputs on this mixer, or do they need to plug into the combi-jacks as 1/4" jack inputs ...? I am thinking I may want to have a few short XLR female to TRS cables handy, as well as some TRS-TRS cables. Any insight would be most appreciated.
Few years ago we choose between soundcraft ui 24 r and behringer xr18, so we bought soundcraft. As for me it’s much more better than behringer x18. There are more channels and 10 aux outs, and it also can record multitrack on usb without Mac or play multitrack.
This is far cheaper and more in line with the soundcraft ui16 price wise. If you want to compare the same price as ui24r you should compare with the Behringer X32 rack.
Ummm.... That bass intro doe.... Also, we had one of these donated to our church and we use it every week. It is amazing and for what it costs, we could replace or buy a second if we had to.
It seems like the behringer xr18 has gone up in price significant. It was going for about 500 new 7 years ago. I see it is selling for 900 now? What's up with that?
The XR18 can't directly produce sounds from midi signals. However, you can select the internal sound from most controller devices (PC, Mac, etc) as an input and use that device to handle the midi.
Why wait? The first few software revisions weren't so great. Wi-Fi in particular was broken for a while. Personally I would have gone with the MR18 which is basically the same thing but with a higher bit rate and better preamps - another reason to wait because it launched much later than than the XR18. The WiFi range been a issue since day 1 any review would have mentioned it so it's not really a surprise - the antenna on the iPads or a environment filled with people's mobile phones is not really helping either. The new version of x32-mix is basically the same as the app for the XR18 - the only way there not is if you're using a really old software revision on the x32.
It looked like in the app there was a Main and then 6 buses corresponding to the 6 outs at the bottom there. Are you able to do custom mixes on each bus?? So if you have a couple in ear systems, they can get their own mix by hooking up to those?
Any idea how to control the signal to a DAW. Mt mixer is pushing a signal but very little. Have to normalize it... not great. I know there gas to be a better way.
Maybe it is a nice USB interface but I think you could probably do better with dedicated interfaces if you don't plan on tearing your set up apart anytime. If you like having the versatility then it is quite nice but operating purely as an interface you're barely scratching the surface of what it can do. Although having the routing capability could be handy.

I use both X18 and X32 with the Xtouch main and Xtouch Extender. Great gear from Behringer.
Hey. Try using mixing station for this mixer insted of the X air app. It is mutch better. You can control with the mixing station app x Air, X33, Wing and other digital boards. The user interface looks just same on every mixer that mixing station supported.
My church use these and they are great thanks for the video
Are there any typical mistakes XR18 users make?
My Daughter got one of these for her musical work and 'I' get to use it a lot. Her band she is with use it for practice night they just plug in their in ears and away they go, quiet practice She was going to get the 16 but her brother talked her into the 18, no regrets. Always get more than you think you need.
Excellent little unit for the price. Access point a must for performing.
you can also use it with the mixing Station app
Awesome review but have you even tried the Soundcraft Ui16? What do you think about it?
The iPad app looks so much better and more usable then the android app. It is similar to the pc app
I have owned the X18-Air, the Xtouch for a few years now. I have 2 matching external routers setup identical one as a spare now. Works great. I talk about my setup all the time. I am thinking of getting the rack mount version as well?
I have the XAir 12 using the app on iPad but notice there are no numbers on the channel meter or main fader meter. So how do you gain stage?
I use streamdeck with it to automate the mixing, giving the users only preset volume positions and channel mutes
Just fantastic! Thanks you!
Since they came out, their price fluctuated a bit and I got mine new for around 350€.
I am praying for thia one my church needs this
Hey you know a beta 87a can be wireless too, right? It’s all a matter of which capsule you put on the stick
Quick question @Worship Leaders Hangout, can you use in ears from your iPad for monitoring? And can you tweak your own monitor mix from your iPad? Thanks and great video!
That would be amazing but I don’t think so.
Yeah I run IEM systems from this and use the app to make changes as needed.
@@WorshipLeaderHangout Aviom??
It's crazy that they still sell this today but won't undate the app so it will work with an iPad Pro. App just shuts down when you try to get into effects or other features.
does that happen when you’re connected to the xr18? or were you testing out the app before buying the xr18?
@hiyouseemcool while I'm connected to it at church. I don't update my iPad anymore because I don't want to lose any more features. I lost save scene feature on my Samsung Galaxy s23 when my cell phone updated last time, now I have to use a laptop to load scenes because they won't update the app to work when phones or tablets get provider updates.
@@ryannrjohnsonApparently mixing station is the better app to use to control xr18 with ipads and iphones.
Ha d to choose between this and the Soundcraft Ui24R. Chose the Soundcraft. Better box in my opinion.
We bought this mixer but couldn’t fix some of the issues…
Did they discontinue the iPad app? Or were there only third party apps like mixing station to begin with.
I really need this mixer 😭😭🥁
Hello there,
I am torn between a small-ish analog mixer, and one of these XR18 units.
Any insight would be most appreciated.
yes
Few years ago we choose between soundcraft ui 24 r and behringer xr18, so we bought soundcraft. As for me it’s much more better than behringer x18. There are more channels and 10 aux outs, and it also can record multitrack on usb without Mac or play multitrack.
This is far cheaper and more in line with the soundcraft ui16 price wise. If you want to compare the same price as ui24r you should compare with the Behringer X32 rack.
That bass line through
Ummm.... That bass intro doe....
Also, we had one of these donated to our church and we use it every week. It is amazing and for what it costs, we could replace or buy a second if we had to.
Hey great video bro, but i'm afraid about the app, does it works correctly? and what about Iphone or Android?
hi pastor chad!! Excited for the legacy seed Sunday?
Everyone says: Hi Shon!
Can you have multiple ipads connected at the same time? I'm wondering if everyone with an iPad or cell phone could set their own monitor mix.
It seems like the behringer xr18 has gone up in price significant. It was going for about 500 new 7 years ago. I see it is selling for 900 now? What's up with that?
Do you know if you can hook up a midi controller keyboard to the XR18 to play software instruments in your DAW? Thanks
The XR18 can't directly produce sounds from midi signals. However, you can select the internal sound from most controller devices (PC, Mac, etc) as an input and use that device to handle the midi.
I want to buy the XR18 OR Midas MR18 for our churche which one you guys recommended, the behringer xr18 or the midas mr18 ?
Depends on your wallet really, they are more or less identical as they come from the same source, Midas owns Behringer.
Isnt 1 and 2 for instruments?
Can this product go into DAW mode and just sync with one's DAW? Say like ableton or studio one pro?
Yes
Try the application called mixing station
Hope it helps you
Hei, can you please explain that awesome live routing
What iPad holder are you using on your piano.
Tough to find a reliable one that stays.
It looked like in the app there was a Main and then 6 buses corresponding to the 6 outs at the bottom there. Are you able to do custom mixes on each bus?? So if you have a couple in ear systems, they can get their own mix by hooking up to those?
Yes, just keep in mind that they are 6 mono output, though you can link to stereo pairs.
Would this be practical for a mobile DJ who wanted to use a tablet with audio playing either from a usb or micro sd in the tablet itself
Any idea how to control the signal to a DAW. Mt mixer is pushing a signal but very little. Have to normalize it... not great. I know there gas to be a better way.
Um, inputs 1 and 2 have High Z inputs for guitars. Input 15 does not.
Did you ever mention it sends 18 tracks to a daw?
buenisimo, me hubiera gustado que mostraras como sonó en aquella ocasion...
can i do personal monitoring for the different musicians via the behringer app? like the x32?
Would you recommend for home studio?
Yes!
Does it work for recording?
