The French cantate had an apex around 1710-1720 after a long period of maturation, then disappeared. Many"specialized" composers wrote excellent cantatas, but Clérambault is considered by many musicologists as "the best one". The influence of opereatic Lully's style reduced at the camber music scale is quite obvious, perhaps even hampering the composer's originality.
