😐pretty similar where I live in northern Ontario. Jan 13 2021 there is only like 100 miles of "good" trail within an hour of me. None within half an hour. Still better then last year didn't trail ride till jan 29😭. Drive 1 hour and there is a crap tonne of snow... but not here of course...
Better that our setup! Trails here open for a few weekends a winter if everything lines up right. I’d gladly have tons of snow a hour away. Ride on brother 🤘🤘🤘
@@MattMcHugh257 yeah we are lucky to get all of February. The trails used to open in December 20-30 years ago but now we are lucky to have them in January
In those low snow conditions are you running over dirt or is there gravel and rocks? We have tons of gravel and rocks so I was wondering if you get any damage?
Mostly dirt/grass but some areas are gravel and rocks. Never had any damage from it, all it really does is wears the carbides and skis down quicker, not a big deal.
You aint kidding. That's how it always is in souther Wisconsin, gotta be willing to travel to make it worth having thousands of dollars wrapped up in the sport.
@@MattMcHugh257 that would be amazing! I remember with last season up in onieda county January was pretty bad. Like 8 or 9 inches. Then we got like 2 feet of snow lol
Really not too worried about going through wear items like carbides and slides. The trail goes through our property so I’m out as soon as the trails open and going till they officially close. We go up north too, but I love riding around home.
@@MattMcHugh257 Nope because Im on the East side of the state the lake effect peters out by the time it gets to us. Our biggest snowfall so far was 7 inches. It's pitiful
Live in Manitowoc county....haven't opened up yet. Put 350 on up in crandon. Was enough to get the itch out. I feel your pain. Going up this weekend for the pickeral jump in and some awesome trail riding
Kinda surprised they didn't open by you. Down here in Washington county they opened for 2 weeks and got hammered (as you can see in the video haha). Still fun to get out and ride.
No matter how bad the trails are, when they open where I live I take my sleds out. Can't beat riding out of the barn, through the field, and onto the trails! Obviously there are better trails to be had when heading north, but it's plenty fun getting out down here!
Wicked Wing Warriors Powerlines are 5 hours away. These trails are a few minutes away from home. Much rather be riding in the UP in way more snow, just don’t always get up there.
Dude! What temp was the sled running at? Do you have an Indy 600? I have a 2013 Indy 600. Mine runs warm even in good snow conditions. I would average around 140 or more degrees. I put scratchers on and that solved the problem. Now I always am at 130 or lower. Bad enginering on my sled for cooling. Those trails you were riding shouldn't have been open.
This sled is a fan cooled 550 so no worries there, just wearing down my carbides and hyfax's faster than normal. This was the last day they were open before they closed.
Good for you guys, trails only open for a few weeks of the year around here so they are a little more lenient. Trails always open back up on the same routs every year so I don't think the land owners (like myself) care too much.
Kind of tough trail conditions, there. But, at like 4:50 you need to keep in mind when you are within 100 feet of anyone not ON a snowmobile the speed limit is 10 MPH.
Lol do polaris actually handle that badly? No wonder I meet soo many polaris riders on my side of the trail on blind corners and almost get in head on colisions. They can't steer them...
This was one of the last rides of the season before I bought new carbides. While changing them I realized I literally didn’t have any carbide left, hence why it’s barely even steers in the video
@@bfjoutdoors yeah they can, but it's way more fun without lol. Problem is that a lot of them, like my 77 ski-doo olympique you cant get carbide skegs, just a straight up bar of metal that you bolt on. All it does is protect the ski itself and has nothing to do with steering. Plus it has a LOT thinner stance than his sled, making it even more submissive to anything and everything on the trail. Than you get sleds like my 76 jag, which the skegs are the same way but the steering is also worn out, as it is vintage now. You can move one ski tip almost four inches without the other one budging lol
But I have bought carbide skegs for other sleds, those are just two of mine that don't have them. The ski-doo because you have to sell your soul to a leprechaun who will then travel to a top secret place in the Bermuda triangle and that's where the parts come from And that's just one damn spark plug 😂. But seriously parts are hard to find and nobody makes carbides for it. As for the jag, shes old, tired, and falling apart. Not a trail sled any more, so I don't feel like spending extra money on better skegs
