Thanks for that. Well worth the wait. I enjoyed the building drama! Ex S&D fireman Peter Smith rated these locos very highly on banks, including this one. In the 50s and 60s he says a Black 5 would take 8, sometimes 9 full coaches up here unassisted on a summer Saturday...to the astonishment of local SR crews. But this was 10 if I counted correctly...plus the 47 which didn't sound as if it was doing much. I also remember the cromptons crawling up here with a double set of 4TCs in the 70s, although they didn't have the run up that this train had.
I always enjoy the suspense these locomotives create when you can hear them from a distance. It's why I make sure that I start recording as soon as I can hear the locomotive. Sure, the modern electric trains are cleaner and can accelerate more quickly but they don't have half the personality of a steam locomotive.
Have read in Peter books on the s&d it was known once that a stainer black 5 pushed an ailing west country class with 8 on the back whilst hauling I think 11 coaches think it was at branksome reading those books made me chuckle at some of the antidotes
Sorry to pour "cold water" on the no banker statement, but I was further down the platform and 57314 on the rear was going flat out until reaching the station and then eased off to let 45212 take the train the last bit "over the top"
I think the 57 was making a major contribution. Great video, so thanks for posting.
Wow! Such a lovely sound!

Superb! No Banker needed up Parkstone Bank for a change. Many thanks!

Fair enough, Colin. Thanks for the information.
The 57 was running on notch 3,thus YES it was pushing, albeit on half power!
