A Grand Day Out - Great Central Railway 09/06/18
Переглядів 7496 років тому
Yesterday I was given the amazing opportunity to have a behind the scenes look at the Great Central Railway which runs from the current northern terminus at loughborough to Leicester city station around 8 miles south. During this visit I was able to see many 'famous' locomotives such as 70013 "Oliver Cromwell", 46521 as seen in "Oh, Dr Beeching!" as well as 78018, the locomotive which featured ...
Diesel Dominance - Swanage Railway Diesel Gala 13/05/18

This year's Diesel Gala was the first to see trains run over the restored track to the mainline at Wareham. Each day a different locomotive assisted Class 33 D6515 "Lt Jenny Lewis RN" top and tailing the London Transport 4TC previously used on the services last year. A class 37 was supposed to make a visit to the railway however due to unavailability, it was replaced by class 50 50031 "Hood" in...

This weekend I got the chance to visit the Mid Hants Railway whilst they operated their Blue timetable featuring steam locomotives: BR Standard 4MT 76017 and Ex LMS Ivatt 2MT 41312. The locomotives have to work hard as they climb "Over the Alps" with gradients as steep as 1 in 60. Therefore I made sure to have my head out the window and record the sound made by the powerful locos. Facebook Grou...

As trains to the Hamworthy Branch are looking scarce, I want to record as much of the Hamworthy branch line as I can. I decided to record the line when it isn't in use as this may become an everyday sight in the future. The Southampton to Dorchester railway line, more affectionately known as the Castleman's Corkscrew or Old Road was closed to passenger traffic in 1966 and was demolished between the late sixties and early seventies. It's satisfying to see how much has survived just between Hamworthy Junction and Upton, from ballast to fence posts and even some sleepers!

Oh no the barriers didn't closed we would walk around the bridge 😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮
I wonder what the bucket of water was for ?
Just for the crew to wash their hands/faces
@@aidanstrand4864 , they should tell that young fireman that...😂
Well I still see southwestern
Very enjoyable video, thank you.
Look at all the inbreds ignoring the alarm
Hi mate, do you please mind if u use some clips for a video I’m making? - I’ll credit of course 😊
Great to see they put a steam loco on, in case the diesel breaks down!
Awesome. Thanks.
Sad that Network Rail “don’t trust” steam locos on the line anymore.
Not sure what you mean by that. There have been plenty of steam tours since then.
@@aidanstrand4864 I’ve been told that they don’t want steam trains along the line because they’re not trusted
I take it that not very much else happens in Hamworthy?
mIsUsE
Is this 71/4 or 5 inch?
7 1/4, I think. That was the only time I've been there but it was a nice day
@@aidanstrand4864 Thanks
If i as in town that day, i probably walked over the bridge as you can see there is a problem with the gates.
seriously need to go looks a great day out and i love diesels
I'm amazed at the amount of car traffic in the area, this could not be made in to a short tram line.
Cool glitchy crossing though EDIT: im talking about at 1:34
Thanks, nice video👍🏼
Very nice👍🏼
Isn’t that the one where people often get hit
I believe it's the most "Misused" crossing in the UK. Meaning lots of people run across once they hear the warning rather than waiting or taking the footbridge.
My commuter cycle route in the Spring and Summer !
The last shots of the video look like the old bridge on the Canford Estate owned by Lord and Lady Wimborne. This was their private road!
They have the bridge and yet still they rush over the track, when the crossing is closing.
because its quicker
hi aidan recently found you videos on hamworthy branch and was wondering if you new were the train comes from and runs to any extra info would be a help as hopefully plan a trip to check it out hope to be in wareham for a couple of weeks in the summer if this crisis has abated
Hi David. The trains have seemed to stop running however when they were, they came from Westbury. They were unloaded at the top of the branch near Hamworthy station and only ran down the branch to use a "Run round" loop at the bottom where the old station was. If you'd like to know more about the Hamworthy branch, a friend of mine called Colin Stone published a book years ago covering it as well as Poole quay tramway and other lines in the local area. I only got it recently and it provides a lot of information and pictures. The book is called "Rails to Poole Harbour"
@@aidanstrand4864 hi aiden thank for taking the time to reply ill look more closely in to both of those items yo mentioned cheers
@@aidanstrand4864 So is it now totally dissused again? Seems such a waste, given there is both an aggregate terminal and ferry services at the docks.
Are they still going now or have they stopped again?
Hey Sam, they've stopped again. Don't know if there'll be any more any time soon.
Not alot's changed in the 25 years since l lived in Creekmoor ! This where i used to cycle and run and take the landlord's dog for a walk! l used to use the sports hall at Broadstone ,the pub opposite and the chinese on the same road .The first structure is a platelayers hut the next smaller structure is a fog signalman's cabin. The tunnel has the wimborne poole road with a junction to Corfe Mullen over the top over it .The ornate bridge structure is something to do with Canford School .The only difference is here - the top seems accessble at the time it was very over grown! Strictly speaking the line from Upton ( which started at Hamworthy Station) wasn't the Somerset and Dorset but was l think LSWR, forced through by the Great Western who had/ wanted running rights to Hamworthy harbour . lt only ran alongside the S&D when it reached Creekmoor but it then joined the S&D at Broadstone. The proper S& D ran from Poole to Broadstone via Creekmoor.
mickey mouse tunnel
That’s a little exciting kid on the bridge..not an angry old woman!!
What kind of wagons are these exactly?

Wow, five restaurant cars.... Got to make a penny or two...
Stop 5 metres before the barrier to allow a safety buffer in case a car behind you doesn't stop in time
I travelled from Woking to Weymouth (and back) with my parents in the mid 1950s in a train with green carriages, similar to the one next to "Tangmere". The locomotive was of the same type as "Tangmere", might even have been that one. I have a vague memory that, at the time Poole Station, was actually next to the level crossing shown in this video. Can anyone confirm whether or not Poole Station has been moved west-wards by a couple of hundred yards or so since the 1950s? And "Tangmere"? A few years ago I travelled on a train hauled by this locomotive on the Swanage Railway with my grandchildren.
The station was moved as far as I'm aware but this level crossing isn't the one that was right next to the station, it's the one closest to London. Wish I could've been around to see it all.
@@aidanstrand4864 Thanks Aidan, maybe the station hasn't been moved quite as far as I first thought.
You haven't been uploading for 2 years is everything OK sugar cube
Everything is ok. As I've become more involved on the Swanage Railway as a cleaner, I've tended to shift away from recording things and more towards what comes with volunteering as a cleaner. i.e. cleaning locomotives, the shed and going out on the footplate.
So pleased to see this line put back! Great action, awesome video!
Nice seeing a stone train coming to harmworthy there; very rare. good job👍
Interesting there is still stuff there, I grew up in Upton and last walked the trailway from Upton Cross towards Hamworthy around 2005 - I had walked it a number of years prior and was surprised at the changes. Sadly I'm unlikely to return there.
I remember when there was a Signal Box at that level crossing behind the photographer’s left, where the large green box is when he swings around towards the station. Happy days.
Poole box A. Wish I was around to see it all.
How interesting. I like how there's a lamp in each window.
Nice, idiots who misuse it
excellent piece of filming...… love it, really nice
@3:00 That's what you call a dramatic entrance.
Look at that old, angry woman on top of the bridge.
ua-cam.com/video/GvPP2BHgBww/v-deo.html I film at Poole Level crossing too, also nice video.
The 57 was running on notch 3,thus YES it was pushing, albeit on half power!
July 2019 looks in a poor state, not running again?
Shut down by BCP council, but now they want it back so are thinking about rebuilding
I was born in 1960 in a cottage where the bowling alley now stands in Branksome. My bedroom window overlooked the station. I would often sit and watch the steam trains going between Poole and Bournemouth.
I wish I could've been there to see it
Such a same the railway closed In away it makes me feel very cross. If they only knew years later.
At least it is open as a public pathway. So much of old lines have been sold off to become private, or else have been left for nature to take over
Because that didn't deafen me with headphones in 🤣 Love that horn though. Shame it's not the superior 66 😜 But that horns awesome!!!
