Agreed. Back in the 2000s/early 2010s I would've considered a decent 7/10 to be a fun weekend, but with how much time and money people have to sink into a single game now, a lot of people don't wanna take chances on anything less than an 8. Also feel like "sponsored" reviews have increased over time, and the standards for ratings have inflated because of it.
@@Bman32x nah it already is better like 8.5-9/10. Venom should have gotten more screentime yes but gameplay for Venom? Spiderman 2 (2023) was the first time I ever bought a game at launch. Literally the first day. I just beat the game last week because for some reason, I just didn't care anymore about the story. I got tired of the padded-out boss fights too, and all of the collectibles and sidequests they kept adding in before I even got started on the ones that they just introduced. A favorite not perfect game of mine: Alpha Protocol. Some character upgrade paths just didn’t blend together, some characters are walking tropes, but the story is just fun, the dialogue, both acting and choices, are beyond fun, and the variety of consequences you could experience lent well to repeatability.
I have a suggestion for a list: "Best/Funniest lines of dialogue repeated over and over by enemies during firefights." Or if you want a more specific one, "Best/Funniest 'Oh, no; we're losing!" lines repeated by enemies during firefights." Stuff like Tomb Raider 2013's "She's kicking our asses" & "She's just one girl!", Far Cry 3's "He's slaughtering us!" or Hit Man's "He's going for headshots!" There are a lot more that I can't think of right now. There is one where they say "We're getting killed out here!" but I can't remember what game it is from.
I really loved Hellblade 2, my biggest annoyance was that I had to go out of the way to download a mod because they couldn't just give us some display options.

I must disagree on Until Dawn and Drive Club. Although, 7/10 is no way a bad rating, but both or these games when they came out were absolutely 9/10 or at least 8.5/10. 7/10 feels like perfeft score for something like Mad Max (great game), but Drive Club is still probably best racing game I played on PS4 gen. And I would have probably gotten into hellblade if it was a walking sim and made the puzzles a bit more narrative and less getting stuck trying to figure out what you're supposed to do.... Or if I hadn't been expecting miserable combat and was expecting weird puzzles.
Best games that weren’t successful because of odd reasons. Dr. Muto was at the end of Midway Games life. Legend of The Dragoon was hot off the heels of Final Fantasy. Psi Ops was at the end of the PS2 lifecycle and Rouge Galaxy was at the PS3’s. A lot of deep cuts here.

Unironically Forspoken. Although it might climb to an 8 after all the fixes to it. I hear it's very different now and much more polished. I enjoyed the story past the first half hour, the combat is fantastic, and the open world... Top "Tom Clancy" branded games. Top Launch titles, Games that release with console launch. Top games that would have bombed/ or been unheard of if it weren't for streaming
For me it's: Dead Island. The gameplay loop is entertaining, the melee FPS style is amazing and the tropical resort setting is gorgeous. But everything else falls flat: The characters are not that different and have no personality of their own, the RPG mechanics are not fleshed out at all, the story is non-existent, the NPCs are forgettable, the legendary weapons are just regular weapons with higher stats. And yet the game is decent enough and I find so much fun in it, that I keep returning for just one more playthrough.
Jules, you totally NAILED the spoderman 2 impression - what was I just doing?? I opted to watch a game movie instead of playing it and boy was I happy with this decision 😂
Both Remnant games are 7/10, the shooting is weighty, there is interesting world building and there are quality bosses. Sure its story is a little lacking but, I can’t complain, it’s a souls clone with guns!
Spiderman 2 ps5 is a 7/10 is more of a disappointment take than a hot take. Its definitely not an objective 7 out of 10 game but if you compare it to the other insomniac spiderman titles it was a disappointment. The problem with putting a game that runs as well as it does with insane visuals on this list is compared to any other 7 out of 10 the production value is so high that they arent in the same league and although the story was meh the gameplay and graphics were awesome. You cant hold the fact thats it doesnt meet expectations against it simply because if the previous spiderman insomniac games didnt come out before spiderman 2 ps5 would be mind blowing. If the game had a different name it would be mind blowing. If spiderman hadnt been in so much popular media the game would be mindvlowing. Its just spiderman fatigue

Hello! Love your stuff Jules. Really cheers me up!
I was thinking about, (insert number) video games where you wish you could have played as the villain.
All the best you delicious egg you!
Unironically Forspoken. Although it might climb to an 8 after all the fixes to it. I hear it's very different now and much more polished.
I enjoyed the story past the first half hour, the combat is fantastic, and the open world... Is really just an excuse to fight more things with the excellent magic system and move around with the fun-as-hell parkour.
So Basically The Video Game Equivalent To NTSF SD SUV or Your Pretty Face Is Going To Hell on Adult Swim
I couldn’t argue that any of these games should be 8/10. Maybe a couple feel more like 6/10 like Until Dawn. 🤷♀️
Fair enough Jules…
Thank you, I love Until Dawn exactly of what you described!!!!
They are remastering it as well, also changing a bit up the Gameplay, so maybe we get some positive surprises on that, too! :)
Top 8 most underrated Hack 'n Slash games
I think most would agree with Spider-man 2 at this point, was definitely my most disappointing game of 2023, and I LOVED the first one
Yay! I'm a lego collector as well and have that set.
And what were you taking about Jules?
Sorry. You mentioned LEGO.
Stop that. Lol
Jules, you totally NAILED the spoderman 2 impression - what was I just doing?? I opted to watch a game movie instead of playing it and boy was I happy with this decision 😂
Jules how dare you
LEAVE UNTIL DAWN ALONE
It's a 10/10 game
It's bloody awsome
Huh, didn’t know Jules is a fellow Biffy Clyro enjoyer. I applaud to that.
It's always nice to see Psi Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy get some love. I love the telekinesis in that game.
How about positive outcome/game changing mechanics of terrible games.. That great games borrowed/ripped off 😊
How about a list of best Job Simulator Games. I recently started playing Shipbreakers and it's very addicting
I'd say Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines was one for me. Punched well above it's rating for me
Spider Man 2 is objectively better then 7/10 so get that out of here. It's a 9/10 at best and 8.5/10 at lowest. Never let bro cook
No one remembers Second Sight third person psychic from Free Radical and everyone went mental for Time Splitters not being First Person? f cking deleted anyway.
This is a great list until you get to Spider-Man 2. That entry really just felt like it was put here to have a hook for the video and a thumbnail to draw you in, because you knew it'd be controversial. I can agree with everything else though.
will anyone ever give gunvalkyrie any love? that gave was hard af but once you finally figured it out, it was AMAZING
Jules, can I just say I absolutely love that Majora's Mask print? I grant myself permission.
Wouldn’t brass be 8/10 games? With gold being 10/10, and silver being 9/10.
Tbh, I played Nier Replicant and think it is maybe a six. But the story and the soundtrack are GOATs.
Can we get big J to never talk about Nier Automata ever again? Lmao, found the channel late and over the last couple years end up binge watching all episodes and have heard the damn potato potata way too many times. It haunts me...

"...one of the greatest looking PS 5 games ever."
So... what? Best out of a handful?
Top 10 platform franchises. Mario, jak and daxter, ratchet and clank, etc
I liked the combat in the first Hellblade. It’s got some depth to it they just don’t tell you how to play it.
the top 10 best video game companions ever or
the top 10 best video game missions where you are the NPC
Lego Star Wars The Skywalker Saga and Borderlands Tiny Tina's Adventure
Why make a list out of 7/10 games? 7/10 games aren't worth your time, there are millions of games better than that.
Nah right up with you Jules, MSM2 was not the amazing game folk hype it up is. It's okay.
My brass bullets are all the Darksiders games. Every single one is a 7/10. Just let number 3 be with the others please.
You guys are inadvertently making old physical games more expensive. Its way too late now
Spiderman was only there to drive engagement. Compared to every other thing on this list it is game of the millennium, but it supposedly needs lumped in with these slightly above meh games.
Hey jules..... you tripping about Spider-Man 2 smh
Shout out to the people old enough to remember ScrewAttacks list on the same subject...
I'm going to have to disagree on Spider-Man 2. That game is a 9/10 easy. I do agree the story isn't as strong as the first, but it is better than most other games out there.
multiplayer games that really.....realllly pushed your friendships
I know Pride month is over, but we need a list of best LGBT characters or something.
