The great and rare 'Mills Brothers' story Part II

- As little Orlandus Wilson (later leader of the Golden Gate Quartet) at the age of round 10 years grasped every possible moment to go and see the young Mills Brothers when they performed in Wilson's neighborhood, it does not surprise the young Golden Gate Quartet in 1934 took the Mills Brothers as their great idols. The young GGQ also started singing as well as imitating instruments with their voices in the style of the Mills Brothers, before wowrking out later their unique style of singing Gospels and Negro Spirituals.
They should make These Beautiful Men a Brand New Documentary to Honor their lives and contributions to music and bringing so many joy
The Mills Brothers were so down to earth and classy and talented. What an amazing family! Thanks for posting this Bruno.
Absolute, utter perfection. We still are not worthy.
Couldn't agree more with you!
I love when Herbert Mills sings.
I love the early ones when their brother, the guitarist to the right was still alive. That was the early 30s and he died far too soon.
@@petertaylor3600they were four brothers all singing, and the guitarist was someone else.
Herb , singing lead! WOW! Love it.
I am 83 years old, my dad loved, and listened to the Mills brothers, he also played the harmonica,
Well enough to be on stage, He told me "Son this is real music, never leave it, it will be around forever."
What can I say,
The Mills Brothers are so
Amazingly Awesome.
What talent What
Joy!!! Thanks guys, I remember
How Dean Martin

Sang with you.

Comes to Episode #2.
No one can deny the multi talented of The Mills Brothers, and their ambitious plans. My admiration and respect.
Truly deserved the recognition, respect and all their successes.
Thank you for the post.
Have a nice day🙂everyone.
The hair stood up on the back of my neck when Herb stepped up to the mic to sing lead. That is the first and only time I’ve seen him step up and I’m 65. My father was a big fan and we had several of their albums so I grew up listening to these amazing men.
My favourite singing group ,thanks to dad having their old 78's they could sing anything that was offered to them
Really regret not saving my grandparent's records of them. Never even gave them a listen til past few years.
Wow, what great voices and style.....unmatched!
6:09 - 7:46 What an absolutely beautiful scene, to see the brothers back, but this time, with dad performing, and the very talented base guitarist (that interview gig must have been impossible to pass). Thank you so much for this absolute gem, Bruno.
Thank you for this.
My grandfather introduced me to the Mills Bros, and I've been a fan for about 40 years, now.
Never knew most of their story.
I wish Hebert did more solos..beautiful tenor voice...
Been listening to them for about 30 years now and also the Delta Rhythm Boys. Thank you so much for the share! Talk about goin' down the memory lane..!

A friend sent this to me a few years ago on a video. It was .....im out of words. I was and
This video really threw me off looking at them in their latter years... Especially Harry with him always being the larger one then he was the thinnest

Gia, I dont think the Ted Mills in Cornelius was Ted Wizard Mills. That Ted Mills was a Broadway producer and died in 2003. I'm pretty sure Ted Mills of Blue Magic hailed from Philly and was born around 1952. He was performing up until 2019. 2016 he had reunited with Keith and Wendell and toured .going to Africa to perform.
Is it me or is audio wretched, horrible and any other adjective I can't think of
Tech was not what it is nowadays but it's great that we have at least some way of hearing these wonderful musical pioneers.
To hear them with today's fidelity would bring me to tears, I'm sure.
Yeah no it’s not just the audio on the old recordings, the entire video is driving me insane
Well we knew harry and don could!
The Paper Doll sequence with the doll figure dancing. Could that be Dorothy Dandridge? The time would be right for her at the age she was.
Her name is written on the photo.
@Gia Monette' The sort of song an Uncle Herb loved to sing to their little nieces/nephews. Good for crooning. He'd be pleased to know you remember.
It is, I'm sure. She used to do things like this at the time.
Gia: Somehow, in some way, I don't think Peter did. Too late to ask him, he's probably playing pol with Uncle Herb, up there as we speak. (It's Jan here, Peter's unavailable).
So Bruno, what happened to some parts of the audio on this documentary? Was that carelessness on your part in the reproduction or was that flawed in the original copy? How about at 11:15 where you here the telephone ringing?!!! Also we’re the periods of distortion. What’s up with that?
Do you realize that this documentary is from 1986? Cut the man some slack.
The bouncing ball bro sing along
