Thanks for the video guys! I've been considering both these options for awhile and have been leaning towards the cardo, mostly as an "in car option" but also for the convenience of doubling its use on my dual sport helmet for the 2 wheeled days. Good thoughts, thank for taking the time to make the video!
Nice review. One additional thing to consider is you can add a Bluetooth adapter to a rack radio and you get the best of all worlds. Long range radio connectivity, in car wireless bluetooth connectivity, mesh connectivity too. The adapter is made by sena, sr10.
@jasentmful . I've been using cardio for about a year really like them. Talking on radio thru sr10, has anyone said your transmitted audio is very low. That's my problem w out fix yet. Thoughts
I don’t think I saw it mentioned but with the Bluetooth set, you can also take phone calls while your driving. I don’t think that is a thing with the Ruged stuff.
What a great topic to discuss. Brian and I have been discussing comms for bit. We want something that will be convenient for a group as well as to communicate with our families in car.
Good video, question on the Cardo. Is the boom mic a “hot mic”? Meaning does it pick up wind and engine noise? When you talk to each other, does the music mute, or do you just talk over it? Thanks
It picks up your voice automatically and muted the music until your done. It usually doesn’t pick up wind unless there’s a really big gust or you’re going really fast into the wind. In your settings on the app, you can adjust how sensitive it is
The noise-canceling does an awesome job. You'll hear wind/engine noise for a second then it will cancel it out. It's very easy to have a conversation even doing 60mph, for us. Music sounds awesome, even better with the in-helmet speakers for some reason.
I did both in one. I was upset that I had Cardo Freedom 2+ for my wife and I on our motorcycle helmets, but they wouldn't work with the Cardo headset. So, I bought two Rugged Radio behind the head headset and two Cardo cradles for Freedom 2+ and wired them into the Rugged radio headsets. So instead of spending $800 to get Cardo headsets with Pack Talks or $1200 for a Rugged radio system I spend $100 per head set and $25 for Freedom 2+ cradles and now have a behind the head headset that works with Cardo Freedom 2+ and will still work with rugged radio setup if needed. Note I used the rugged radio speakers, but I had to add a Cardo mic to the boom because there was an impedance miss match with the rugged radio mic. Luckly I still had the Velcro mounted extra mics that came originally with the Freedom 2+ set.
We use tyt Amazon radios. They work pretty good, but usually at least one guy will have a problem. We’ve talked about the Cardo option for a while. I appreciate the info. We ride in Tennessee a bunch and we will need more range than that will offer. Love the videos. Keeping it real
Thanks for that kind of info that’s good to know to give people a choice what will work form them. As for me being deaf my RZR has a Rugged Radio but never used it. Wouldn’t love a radio that takes texting then that will be a game changer for the deaf riders!👍😉🤘
Not sure if i missed it in the video. I was looking, but didn't see anyone ask in the comments either. What is the real world battery life like for the Cardo? Can it be charged on the fly and be used simultaneously?
I don't ride with other UTVs super often and none of our friends have Cardo setups but I think it's the best option if you DON'T need car to car and have passengers all the time. I wish they would have done black headsets instead of white, though 😆
Good video guys 👍🏻 Just purchased some Cardo units and they are awesome!! Of course they are coming out with an upgraded version…after I just purchasing these Lol !!!
I don't want an intercom system but would like these for in-car comms. Do you think the bluetooth feature on the RR G1 radio will connect to these headphones.
All these different options get confusing, but I think this is what I’m needing. Seriously appreciate the breakdown! I want the easy and flexible option so I can take it for my Harley too! Where is the best place to purchase?
I can tell you that there is nothing better for music and phone calls with the Cardo in-helmet. Great sound as long as you get the speakers positioned right. I have been at Glamis with sand cars roaring by on a phone call with my wife and easily having a conversation like we're face to face.
I’ve got a krx with full cab kit. It’s very loud inside the cab and makes conversations very difficult when riding with a passenger. Will the ear muffs muffle the noise and allow opportunity to drive and talk and listen to music
Question, Can you use any head set to connect the edge to, Or do you need the edge headset? For instance I have several ear protection head sets around that would be great to hook the edge to if possible.
PCI and race style radios have their place, but also disadvantages. All depends on where you ride and what your priorities are. Thanks for checking us out
@@OffCamberInd sweet! I’ll hang tight then! Been using a utvcom system in my wildcat xx but likely going the Cardo route in my new Turbo R 4. Thanks much for the info! Love watching your adventures!

I’m sorry, but relying solely on Bluetooth and more riders in a certain area to communicate equals a busy area and to me a greater chance of a collision, no thanks. Dedicated radio/ intercom for me. Plus what do you do when your Cardo kills it’s battery?
Technically it’s DMC, their own network, it just uses Bluetooth to connect to your phone for music and calls. If it dies, plug it in. You can use it while it’s charging if preferred. There are pros and cons to both options
Intercoms are simple. The radio side sucks. Too many options too frequency’s and certain places uses one and another uses another. I would be excited to buy a radio intercom kit knowing the radios frequencies ranges were standardized so to speak
We just tested the range on the Cardos and found that line of sight you could get about a quarter of a mile if that helps.

PCI Race radios for the win! True stereo sound!

Cardos for in cab communications work great. In addition we pack the baofeng uvr5 for every person.
Yep, that’s what we do on spread out rides

Rugged does have the ability to send messages to your group.
Thanks for bringing that topic up. Us deaf guys need to look out for each other. Lol
Got the Cardo and haven't used it yet but never saw a reason for me to go radio, don't like that others hear and talk on it.
You’ll like it. Super handy to have
Not sure if i missed it in the video. I was looking, but didn't see anyone ask in the comments either. What is the real world battery life like for the Cardo? Can it be charged on the fly and be used simultaneously?
Cardo says 12-13 hrs on a full charge. We haven’t tested using them while charging, but our assumption is yes - it works while charging

Figured it’d help anyone in the market. Thanks for tuning in
Have you tried Sena Tufftalk industrial bluetooth intercom? My 2 way radio is connected with a SR10 so no wires. The best I've found...
No we haven’t. That’s interesting for sure. What kind of 2 way radio are you using?
I’ve got a krx with full cab kit. It’s very loud inside the cab and makes conversations very difficult when riding with a passenger. Will the ear muffs muffle the noise and allow opportunity to drive and talk and listen to music
Yes they will
The cardo headsets are no longer available. They released new ones that dont work with packtalk bold, only edge. Bummer
The new headphones and the edge are nicer, so if you’re in the market, the new ones are the way to go
Question, Can you use any head set to connect the edge to, Or do you need the edge headset? For instance I have several ear protection head sets around that would be great to hook the edge to if possible.
You could likely rig it up to work with the helmet kit it comes with. I’ve seen some people do that with SENA.. basically the same style
Do you have to be licensed to use the rugged? Heard something about the radio needing licenses.
We are not aware of any required license, would be a good thing to check out before purchasing
very well explained thanks guys

We actually just tried this, and yes, it it has Bluetooth. The oxbow Bluetooth handheld is the one we tested
with Cardo is there multiple frequencies or channels?
There can be multiple groups you can toggle between, but not different “channels”
You won’t hear anyone not in your group
