DK, I've been living out of state for over a year and move back to the burgh at the beginning of August. The one thing I circled as "something to do" is to make it to a game to watch Skenes pitch. I've already told my friends that we have to get tickets together to watch him. Just like you said, "an event." Loved the episode, as always.
DK. I've never been more excited to be around for this guy's run as a Pirate. Cherrington and the owner (who I wish not to say his name) need to understand what's going on and make the right moves to get this team to the playoffs. It would be a complete injustice to him and the rest of his teammates if they do nothing. They have a once in a generation talent. They have to be on the phone making calls to others GM's NOW. After saying all of that. It's going to be AWESOME! I will be watching every start with a beer in my hand.
There is a naive part of me that lives in every Pirate fan in Pittsburgh that is ready to go all out for this team again. We want to go to and watch every game, pack out the park, and cheer on the Buccos. Knowing this part of us exists also scares me because with current management, they know all they have to do is the bare minimum, and win to get us to buy into it. Heck, the last decade, the didn't even have to win, and they still dont... it's just convenient right now that they are a little more than the usual past years. If they do what's right by this franchise and it's fans, for once, they will go above and beyond to give us something worth falling in love for, rather than just the usual heartbreak.
I don't care who the Pirates didn't keep or who they kept. The bottom line is they haven't won anything in 45 years and haven't been competitive for nearly a decade. Not to mention that record 20 season losing streak. Raise your standards.
The next 8 series will be a tell all for the Pirates and by the Pirates I mean the ownership group, the daily baseball operations staff, the manager, and the players. Every team they play has a better record than the Pirates have. So by mid August we shall see what the future holds.
It's becoming pretty clear that hitters' game plan against Skenes is to attack early. Be prepared to hit 100. I loved the first pitch splinker to Soto, getting a little league whiff from one of the best hitters in baseball. Judge was swinging first pitch no matter what. I wish Paul would've pulled the string on him, too. Can't complain though. Routine chopper to third. Mason Martin looked awesome. He's not nearly as polished as Skenes, though. I can see why he was converted into a closer.
I still have a hard time understanding how the Pittsburgh sports media and more specifically Pirates sports media for the most part act like Livvy Dunne and her relationship with Paul Skenes does not exist. I'm an ol' fart who's been married for 30 years and could care less about any of that kind of thing, however there are tons of young folks out there who follow all the drama stuff avidly. Why is the media covering the Pirates and the actual Pirates marketing department not turning those eyes to PNC Park? The only person ive even heard mention the young ladies name was you DK and that was only in passing, heck the broadcasts dont even pan to her when shes dressed to the nines in Pirates gear cheering on her boyfriend. Seems like an easy and free marketing layup to me.
Being an hour south of Pittsburgh were an event town because there’s not much to do around here. So WHEN THERE IS we don’t wanna miss it! 😂🤷🏻♂️💯 still wouldn’t trade it for anything. I love small town life. New York City after a week I’m ready to come back to where everybody knows your name. 💁🏻♂️😂💯
The Pirates need to try and offer him a deal now. I really dont want to see him in Pinstripes or Dodger Blue in a few years even though I know thats the most likely scenario.
I know what you’re saying DK, Skenes and Jones were two reasons I finally took the plunge to book the flights to visit PNC, the idea of seeing either pitch is too exciting even for English fans
@@Tourszs17 None of us know. Just my own two-cents for what it's worth. The best chance for Skenes to stay into a second (or third?) contract with the Pirates is (a) the money of course but also, (b) winning - and by that I don't just mean being competitive but a World Series win which builds a story and a legacy that would be tough to walk away from, and (c) Livvy falling in love with Pittsburgh which would mean they both fall in love with the city. The odds are low, I know. Skenes is a Texan and an LSU man, Livvy loves LSU. So if we're going based on this I wonder if the Rangers or Astros could be in play. But they also seem like they could be fine anywhere (NYC, Los Angeles) and I think it's a mistake to underestimate Livvy as social media-gymnastics, she may have a career shift ahead (acting or modeling or both, who knows, she's still young but I expect her to have a diversified portfolio of branches in which she's involved - social media, maybe acting, business investments, etc). If it's all about money, my best bet would be the Dodgers, especially if Livvy developed a career that would draw her to Hollywood. They are very young but the Pirates have themselves a rising power couple if they can keep them around. Not to sound like Dk, but fan support will matter. Making them feel loved and fall in love with the city is part of the long shot hope to keep them around.
Thanks for telling the truth about Bob Nutting and his efforts to retain solid home grown talent. The story line that he doesn't is intellectually dishonest, and it's grounded in laziness.
J1Q: if building up the middle is the old-school way of setting up a good team... I believe Gonzalez and O'Neil are set...Bart or Davis at Catcher...what is the cure for Centerfield?
Seeing a real star emerge in Pittsburgh then a few years later watch him leave FA or traded for marginally talented garbage and see it happen over and over again has become psychologically too much for Pirate fans to bear. That DK is why nobody goes to the games no matter who's pitches.

I giggled 🤭 when you said "playoff"

When I travel to see the pirates I see a minimum of a series. With the pitching we have I am excited to see what we can do. Will we add a bat though??
And thanks to Bob Nutting? He'll be a great Yankee or Dodger someday.
he and ohtani are the only reason I'm giving baseball a chance... they are fun

I wonder if Skenes tried on Judge’s uniform to see how he’ll look as a Yankee in 5 years?
Ohtani’s
Livvy Dunne strikes me as a SoCal girl. It will be her decision.
@@benjaminperez7328no it won't 💀 Skenes' agent is going to get him the most money wherever it is. Livvy plays ZERO factor.

Right. But I'm supposed to go along with the prevalent narrative, anyway, or so I'm told. - Dejan

Some affordable free agents...

he's gonna look silly in pinstripes.
Shut up with that garbage! Maybe he wants to stay here!
Does the “K” in “DK” stand for khetnik? Wouldn’t be surprised!!!

Playoffs!!!?? Playoffs!??😂 C'mon, Da'wreck and Awful Andy (Paines) are the boat anchors that drag this Pirate ship to the bottom!!
I mean this team is a bat away from a playoff run. The team just needs DECENT offense. We’re right there
@@HereWeGoShow Decent offense with Awful Andy is the exact problem! No playoffs for Pirates!!
@@HereWeGoShow The team needs a bat at first base, one outfield position and a bat at third base. Maybe even a bat at catcher
@@HereWeGoShow
And Nutting won’t spend an extra DIME to get a bat.
